OH, girl! I am so sorry about your injury!! Please let us know what news you get from the doc...
And btw, you can't quit...you in particular have been so inspiring to me. You have come so far already since you've started your training. I am just beginning but I too am slogging along... But most of all, take care of yourself, be healthy. We will all be keeping our fingers crossed this is just a little "bump in the road". Keep us posted....

Thank you so much for your kind words - that means alot to me. It is official, though I fractured the 5th metatarsal bone in my foot. Dr says minimum of 2 months to heel at best scenario, but more likely 3-6 months. This is so disappointing to me, but not much I can do. I am allowed on the elipitical, bicycle and swimming - so I will do that and try to maintain the level of fitness. I know I have plenty of time to heel and still train for the Princess. I'm not giving up - I'm going to keep on working hard to lose weight, so that when my foot is heeled I won't weigh as much and it will be less stress on my feet.

Wow, so sorry to hear about this bump in the road for you, but it sounds like you've really got a great attitude about it. Good for you for not letting it get you so far down that you just give up...sounds like you have a great plan to keep doing what you can do at this point.

I'm another step closer to starting running. I just went today and bought some new running shoes, and I got a running water bottle (I tend to parch easily). I just need to get myself an iPhone armband and I will be all set... I'm planning on starting next Monday.

I chuckled when I read your post...sounds just like me...new gear has always been what motivates me, no matter if I was just getting started going back to the gym again, or when I started running. Even now, when I feel like I'm kind of stuck on a plateau or just bored, a trip to the Nike outlet store for some new running threads always revives me!

Great outlook on it! You can do it!

Can any of you fabulous veterans give us some information about the tracking system for your families/cheerleaders who want to see you along the race? Also, any info about great spots to cheer from?

Thanks! :thumbsup2

A friend of mine had her family wait along the road outside the Contemporary hotel and when she passed, they got on the monorail and took it to the Grand Floridian. Cheered for her there, got on the monorail and waited for her at epcot. I thought that was a brilliant idea. :thumbsup2

304 Days til the princess: 1/2 Marathon

Just in case you are counting!!!

A little bummed here to day - I was running a 5k on Saturday and in my mind, I was doing so well - feeling good and maintaining my pace, then low and behold I planted my foot and "pop/crack" on the outside of my right foot. Immediate pain on the side and I had to hobble to the finish line. The pain is a little better today, but it still hurts when I put pressure on it. Going to the ortho dr later this afternoon - not sure if its plantar facsciitis rearing its ugly head, but from what I understand that is more heal pain (I've had it in both feet) and this pain is on the side or maybe a stress fracture. I am so upset and keep thinking that maybe this running thing is just not for me. I'm not ready to give up yet, but this set back is very disappointing :guilty:

Don't give up! You've got plenty of time to get ready for the race. Do what you can to keep moving towards your goal. As soon as you get the thumbs up from your doc, you'll be back on track in no time!
:hug::thumbsup2

Oh Tammy, I'm so sorry about your injury! Honestly, that is what is scaring me the most- more than the balloon lady!

I have been a little off this week- I haven't run since Thursday, but I've been battling an ear infection- this is the first one I've had (that I can remember) and holy moley do those hurt! I'm so glad my kids don't get them much!

Then it was Easter and now I'm leaving for Vegas on Thursday and running around trying to get a million things done last minute!

Kappy- great job on the 5k!!!

I'm doing my best to stay caught up on this thread and I know I need to go back and update the daily mile list, but it might have to wait until I get back.

Oh and DH and I decided that we definitely ARE doing our vow renewal that week. Since we are doing the super skimpy package, we have to do it on Saturday or Sunday, so we are thinking about doing the ceremony Saturday

I am so sorry! But you have an awesome plan--keeping up the fitness & weight loss while you are healing. Even at 3 months, you still will have 7 months to train! That will be plenty of time, and we will be cheering for you all along the way. Keep your head up, princess princess:...that tiara will be yours!!! :cheer2:

Hi Princesses! I did a 4 mile race this weekend in the pouring rain....definitely did NOT feel like royalty hah.

I posted a full race recap on my blog if anyone's interested -
(cue shameless self-promotion)
http://nyc-runner.blogspot.com/2011/04/one-race-down-eight-to-go.html

But I ran in 33:18, which is a 8:49 pace. A few days later I'm still staring at the race result - I remember when I did my first 5k years ago, I never, ever thought I could nail even a 10-minute mile. Anything is possible ladies!

Hello Princesses! You all are keeping me motivated! I did amazing well in January/February, ran nearly everyday, completed 2 5ks but the last 6 weeks have been incredibly hard. Busy kids, work has been crazy, busy husband. We haven't been able to run in over a week and last time I ran, 2 miles was killer.

I have to kick it in gear. My goal was to run my first half in my hometown in October and then run the Princess.....It's all going to be here before I know it.

Awesome!! :cheer2:
My first 5k was last May and it was 32 minutes! My DD (12) did her first in 31 minutes! You have to start somewhere! WOW but 8:49 mm is excellent!!
I did a 10k on Saturday and finished in 57:24. Hopefully I can get a better one to submit.

By any chance is your hometown half, the Cincinnati Half? Just wondering, b/c that will be my first half too!

you're right there with a 57 minute 10k - that's only slight above a 9 mm! I doubt I could hold a sub 9 minute pace for a 10k - MAYBE if it was the right weather, flat and I was just feeling all around good. But I still doubt it.

I would just submit that 10k - that's more than enough to get you into corral A, I think. At least when I did Princess two years ago, out of 10,000 runners, there were a bit less than 1000 runners who went sub-2...which is very different than most big races.

Hello Princesses!

So I was planning on increasing my mileage last week, but unfortunately there was a death in the family so I spent the week dealing with that and not running (although I did get a few runs in). So I'm back now, trying to get into another routine. I was able to get in a 4 miler today. The sun was out, the ocean was really blue, and the wind was just starting to pick up, so all in all a nice day to run.

Does anyone use the Nike Plus app on their phones (I have mine on my iphone)? I've been loving it because my friends can cheer for me on my runs through Facebook, it tracks mileage, best times, and all that fun stuff. I was also planning on "racing" my friends through the app as well. Just wondering if anyone else has used it...

I am SO jealous of your weather it has rained for 2 straigt weeks here! :sad2:

Sorry about the rain! The only thing is that we get really nasty winds (Sundowners as they're known here). I have to bike to and from class and it stops us in our tracks. That's why I run in the morning.

While Nike did just start sponsoring our school, I've been competing with a club team and we have a few different sponsors and our coach doesn't really care what we use. I had someone press the "like" button on the fb post for it today and I heard clapping on my run... scared me at first until I realized what it was.

So sorry to hear about your injury! Great attitude though. Its very hard to deal with an injury, but all you can do is listen to your doctors and your body. Sounds like your motivation will get you through.

Thank you everyone for your kinds words and support - what an amazing group we have here. While I am frustrated and disappointed, I will get back on track on my foot heals.

To everyone training - run a mile for me - and know I am cheering you on - you can do it - keep up the good work!!!

Hmmmmm... Is a month enough time between Halfs to consider doing the Tinkerbell? (Bearing in mind that I'm also planning on running the Las Vegas Half in early December, which will be my first Half ever).

A friend of mine is planning on Tink and Princess, but I don't know if that's a realistic idea for myself, however I'd hate for the registration to fill up before I decided that I wanted to try it! Grumble grumble indeed.

Yes...I've done a couple two weeks apart and I am NO running machine. In fact, I have a bum knee. If you said FULL marathons, my response would be different.
