Great job on your races this weekend ladies! I'm having to live vicariously through your mini reports until marathon weekend in January. I had 2 big races and a smaller race this fall, and now I'm going through a little bit of racing withdraw. I've even been looking for 5k's and such to run, but come up empty handed.

Kind of OT, but are there any girls from the D.C. area on here? We're spending a week there from Christmas to New Years visiting my parents and I would love to find a race to run. I'm guessing there aren't many since both holidays fall on weekends, but I thought I'd see if any locals knew of a race.

Congratulations to all those who had a race this weekend. I also ran my first 10k race today in St. Augustine, Fl. The course was mostly flat though we did cross the Bridge of Lions twice. I ran a time of 56.28 and placed second in my age group- it was a fairly small first year race. My question for you all is this: What are my chances of getting a corral that is too fast for me? I never expected to run a 56.28 now I'm afraid I wont be able to keep up with others in my corral.

You can always move back a corral if that is a worry. a 56 10k will put you solidly in B. If you start in the back of B you will never know that you are in a faster corral. There are plenty of folks in C who will pass you by quickly.

I had hoped for B- was afraid I might be put in A- where I could never keep pace- I'll happily take B! Thank you Coach!

Don't worry about the pace of others in your corral. If you end up in A, start near the back and run the pace you feel comfortable with. I'm hoping for A this year so I don't have long lines for pictures with characters!

Not really.... It really needs to be a 1:14 or better to improve positioning. a 1:14 is roughly equivalent to the 2:45 time where proof starts to be required. I am under the belief that while proofs slower than the above are accepted, they more than likely do nothing to your corral.

I have to say that I kind of disagree with you on this one. I had 2 friends who submitted times of 1:13 and 1:17 last year and they were moved up to corral B with those times. I am guessing being primarily a women's race the higher proofs may go farther then mixed gender races? :confused3

I did not submit proof of time and put 2:56 as my EFT and I was in D.

This year I submitted a proof for 1:15, I guess I will bring proof of my Tinker Bell time, which is looking to be in the 2:30's, with me and if my 10K did not get me in B I will use the Tink time to move me up (hopefully). I don't remember what I put down as my estimated time but I am pretty sure it was in the 2:40's, but training is going better then I was expecting.

We're down to double digits! Can you believe it's only 99 days til Princess?!

On another note, I got fitted for shoes today. I should have done it sooner but I've had a lot going on and never got around to it. I tried on 6 different pairs before I found a pair that I liked. I can't wait to run in them.

Good job on all the runs everyone.

Just ran a 10K yesterday. Somewhat disappointed but also really happy I finished. I was really happy to finish but my time was 1:20:48 and I was the 2nd to last person to finish. I felt like I ran harder than I ever have before and I know my pace was faster then I normally run. I've been training on the treadmill and my pace has been around 15 min per mile but yesterday I did 13:10.

I'm so sore today and 10 feet from the finish line I thought I was going to vomit. I didn't stick to my training either because I've been doing a 1/1 run/walk but yesterday tried to keep up with SIL. Does it really make that much of a difference? I'm just trying to figure out if I can even get to where I need to be by Feb when I have to run double. Any thoughts? :confused3

Just keep it up and you're going to have a great big medal at the finish line! Great training efforts there! I like to integrate races as part of my training program because I always push myself harder then.

Great Race ---- You are so much faster than you think and your effort was worth so much more training points than you can imagine.

First, your pace is roughly equivalent to about a 60-65 percentile finish in a Disney half. Nothing to hang your head on there. Second, while long slow runs are the order of the weekend, a race is worth a lot, also. You were hopefully able to bank thoughts on how to push and survive an anaerobic effort pushing through to the finish. Perfect for running from the uturn in Epcot to the finish in February. Bank that knowledge you gained.

There is a difference between running a half and a 10k. Sounds a lot like you were trying to run another's pace. Net race, slow up and keep it a little more aerobic. You will find you enjoy the race and will feel better the next day.

Today, get out and walk it off. It hurts, but the best thing to do today is get out, walk to to warm up and then stretch out a bit.

You are doing great! You will definitely get where you need to be by Feb. Just keep increasing your long runs until you get to at least 10-12, at the 15mm pace. Use your "short" (twice weekly 2-3) runs to go as fast as you did today, and your body will start getting used to it.

I trained from May through now at a 14-16mm for my long runs (dependent on weather), in 1/1 or 1:30/1 intervals. My short runs were as fast as I could go, still in intervals, while not feeling like vomiting/passing out.

I am proof Galloway works. My half last weekend was exactly a 12:30 pace, even though *all* of my long runs were 14 -14:30 or more.

Also, you learned something today. Don't go out too hard in distance races! Stick with your intervals from the beginning. I know it's super hard in the smaller/faster races, but you will have plenty of company at Disney.

Plus, all you need to do to finish the Princess is a 16mm. You will rock this race!! :goodvibes

I thought you did great! Just try to remind yourself that your goal is to finish, not be the fastest. It helps me in any race to really try hard not to start too fast. Follow your training plan, at least the first few miles. And if you feel better then, you can reduce your walking. I find it really difficult to pace myself in the beginning, but find if I do, I often finish better time wise and body wise. Just keep training and trust in it. You'll be just fine!

Oh, and I forgot. Coach Charles, you rock! I love all your advice! It's been really helpful!

I agree with all that has been said. I know it is hard but you really need to trust in the process and yes run your own pace/ race.

I thought we all did great Saturday. We were only a few minutes apart. Lauren, your pace is already 13mm, by February you'll be stronger with more endurance. I started out with Gretchen but we didn't really "run" together. We kind of chased each other the whole race.

By the time Feb rolls around you're going to be stronger physically and have more endurance. I don't think it's going to be a problem. Maybe you and your SIL just won't run the whole race together but you can meet up at the end.

Hello! While I am running I am trying to visualize in my head where I will be at the princess half. I know some of you mentioned that mile 6 is in MK. What about mile 4? What happens after MK? Hopefully something entertaining!
:cool1:

Great job finishing.... its so hard to be one of the last ones to finish - I beat myself up many years ago when I ran a 15k and was at the end. I just tried to focus on the fact I did the distance, got my butt out of bed and did the race and finished. Be Proud!

Keep following your plan and you will get there. I know its hard to imagine for the first time going that distance but sticking with your training plan, you will build up the miles and I bet get faster too without you even realizing it.

My advice to best avoid injury is just stick with your pace and training plan. You will get up in miles, that comes with sticking with the plan.

Great job on your race!

I am doing a 10k Gobble Jog here in Marietta, GA. Its a great way to earn your pumpkin pie!
