Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Is anyone staying at OKW? I couldn't get into Saratoga or AKL with my points so I opted for OKW. I'm thinking that we'll call a cab to take us to POR that morning and then catch the bus to the race.

I am staying at OKW. We will likely be driving to the race start. How many do you have with you? We are 7 in total, but may have room in a car for 1 or 2 more...

Also - are you wearing compression socks? I love, love, love, mine. I used to get shin splints and/or bad calf cramps until I started wearing them. I swear by them now. Not a peep of pain since I started running with them.

I swear by them too.

YES!!! I always wear them on my long runs.

Taryn-Love your costume! SO cute!

Thanks everyone for the condolences and warm wishes.

Will, I tried for10 miles yesterday andit did NOT go well. I went with a good friend of mine who is a lot faster than me. She slowed down, and I sped up, but I think I went to fast. About 3.5 miles into it my right shin started KILLING me. I tried alternating walking and running but running just hurt too much. I've been ace wrapping, icing, and taking more Advil than I should. It feels a little better but still not great. I'm really hoping it's not a stress fracture. I'm gonna see if I can get in to see the doctor in the next week. I'm not sure if I need new running shoes. The ones I have I got in May, so they are 6 months old. But I haven't been going super long distances. I don't know. With all the family stuff going on, I'm probably not going to have a lot of time to run, I guess rest will be good. UUUGGGGHHHH!

Way to go for all of you who got long runs in this week. You all keep me inspired! princess:

Colleen, I hear you. I ran my last two races (10K and 5K) with other people, and in both cases my ego made me run the first mile too fast, and then right past the 1 mile marker, my shins told me very loudly what they thought about my pace! In both cases, the second mile was kind of hellish (and in both cases I told my companions to go on without me), and then the next rest was better, but I felt it in my legs for at least a week.

I'm not racing again til the Princess, so I'm going to try really hard not to go out too fast. I may set my phone to pester me if I'm going too fast. That runkeeper lady can be pretty annoying! ;) I also just need to start on my own and run my own race. This running thing is a real exercise in humility for not-so-athletic me!

I did my 9.5 miles today. It was hilly and cold, and I walked more than ran, but I was ahead of the sweepers. I checked in with myself as I came home, and while another 3.6 wouldn't have been easy, I could have done it. I needed that confidence boost!

Keep us posted on the training, princesses! It's so inspiring to think of you all out there too! :cool1:

I know this was covered a few months ago, but I cannot find it. Does anyone have information about past Coral placement based on estimated run times. I know that to sign up for the race the highest placement you can get is 2 hr 45min race placement without a certified pace/race results. I registered with that time, but I am now much faster. First of all, how fast do I need to be to move up another Coral (based on past history)? Secondly, I know I need to run a 10k or longer to use as my race time, but how do I get a certified race time? Do I just get a person running the race to write it down on my bib or something? Sorry guys, but I am a racing novice and only ran my first race a few months ago. I really appreciate any help you might be able to give me. :worship:

I THINK you just need to print out race results from online with name and your time on it and bring it with you to the expo. I believe its too late to send race results via email. Anyone have experience with changing at the expo....I hate to give wrong advice, but I believe I read that is what people do.

GREAT COSTUME Taryn! I love seeing the costumes here because come race day we will def recognize some people when you see them in real life. I am working on mulan now......

I did a hill workout on the treadmill today that was quite frankly kicking my butt. Lucky for me Queen came on and I powered through. Man I am so glad the Princess is for the most part flat, I mean there ARE some hills and I hate that they are at the end......but for the most part, nice and flat! Next weekend I will do 8.5 on my drive towards 10.

Great work all you ladies on your long runs! I am so excited about the trip....and race.

Are you doing the pink costume or the warrior costume?

Thanks for the offer! I'm trying to see if I can get a relative to watch the kids (10 & 12) during the race. I'm even offering to pay for Platinum Cheer Squad if they do it. I'm thinking I might have to meet them at the start so I'll have more than 2 :headache:.

Those of you running with your husband, what did you choose for a team name? I couldn't come up with anything so I chose the Running Sparky's (I call DH Sparky b/c he reminds me of Clark Griswold, LOL.)

I vote for a prerace meet up, too. I am traveling with my DH, but running alone. Wouldn't mind taking that long walk to the corrals with a Disboard buddy!:)

Missed my long run this week because it was too cold. My long runs are Wednesdays and the high temp that day was 21 degrees. I just couldn't brave the cold. I did get 3 runs in this week, however. My longest run has been 10 miles and I did it twice toward the end of December. Not too worried as we still have a few weeks to go. :thumbsup2

Keep up the good work, princesses. And those who are nursing an injury, I wish you a speedy recovery.

A lot of us have Wish Princess bondibands. I think Heather (stitchfan18) ordered extras, so you may see if she has any left. They are only $5 plus $1 for shopping. There is a sticky thread on the main events page.

Thanks, Jenn!

What kind of phone aps are you guys using? I have been using one for a few months, but it is starting to become ineffective.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. At this point I'm willing to try anything and everything! Where have you guys gotten compression socks? And is the sock better than the sleeve?

Pink. I have some great ideas for the warrior one.....BUT it needs to be cold as its long sleeves in my design. :goodvibes

I am 95 Percent sure I will do mulan......just have to get a shirt to start working on the cumberbund. I have some very light blue material I think will work nicely for that! Going to get a red team sparkle as well.

Its also a good idea if anyone wants to meet up to try to see if anyone staying in same place wants to ride together. We drove a veteran last year and it was fun having her talk about her previous year experience....plus she wasn't alone. We stayed at the swan last year, but staying at a host resort this year will be totally different! Can't wait.

I use RunKeeper and Nike+. Run keeper gives me my intervals (I do 3:1 intervals on all my runs) and I really like the cheers on Nike+...I am cheesy like that!

I got my socks at Road Runner Sports...but only because I wanted to use them the next day and I wanted to be sure I got the right size. I have never tried the sleeves...

have you tried compression tights? i wear cw-x tights and i swear they feel so much better than normal tights

I got mine at runningwarehouse.com. Zensah. I believe the WISH discount code for 10% off is WISHRACED, but it could have changed.

I prefer the sleeve to the sock, as I like my socks a certain way (with a cushion).

Okay. If things change, just let me know.
