Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Well, I'll put in my vote for POR, though I'll fess up to self-interest, since we're staying at POFQ. The River Roost is sort of connected to the open area of the lobby. Here's a photo of the lounge with the show in action (you can see there are plenty of kids): http://www.portorleans.org/images/gallery/POR-Main-2008-7400_large.jpg

Bob will start at 8:30, so that gives us some time to hang out, and then people who want to stay for the show can. And while I don't rent cars at Disney anymore, in the past I have been successful getting through the gates and parking for free based on eating or drinking there. There is plenty of parking at POR.

Since DD is running the 1K the next day, I don't want to keep her out too late. I can drop her off with the rest of the family but we're staying at OKW, so I vote for someplace in DtD for a quick drink.

I vote for either POR or DTD somewhere. I admit though that I am being a little selfish since I am staying at POR.

On another note, I ran 8 miles this morning and I felt great. I am ecstatic because that is the farthest I have run. I feel confident after today that as long as I don't miss any more long runs before the race I will finish with time to spare. :thumbsup2

Is there room for one more?
This is my second post on DisBoards. The first was to see if I can become an official WISH'er! Anywho, I will be running the Half! This will be my fourth. My family is all involved: DH is running the 5K Stroller Division; DD,5, is running the 200m Dash, and DS, 14 months, is running the 100m Dash. Oh, and my mom(not sure the abbreviation for her!) is running the 5K as well. We have some family friends coming in and this will be the first Half for her! SO excited. We are staying at BLT, using some DVC points. Would be open to meeting, if we can make it in town early enough.

:welcome:
As the Haunted Mansion always says... There is room for one more.

I am happy to see ALL of the family involved. My girls were supposed to run the family 5k but never trained and they decided not to run this year. I hope my Disney running catches with them. I can't wait to meet some of you as I am running alone. It would be nice to see some of you as you pass me ;)
;)

For those of you who have stayed at POR for the Princess Half before, where does the shuttle do pickup? Is it from each bus station, or only certain ones?

Thanks!

Is anyone staying at OKW? I couldn't get into Saratoga or AKL with my points so I opted for OKW. I'm thinking that we'll call a cab to take us to POR that morning and then catch the bus to the race.

I know this was covered a few months ago, but I cannot find it. Does anyone have information about past Coral placement based on estimated run times. I know that to sign up for the race the highest placement you can get is 2 hr 45min race placement without a certified pace/race results. I registered with that time, but I am now much faster. First of all, how fast do I need to be to move up another Coral (based on past history)? Secondly, I know I need to run a 10k or longer to use as my race time, but how do I get a certified race time? Do I just get a person running the race to write it down on my bib or something? Sorry guys, but I am a racing novice and only ran my first race a few months ago. I really appreciate any help you might be able to give me. :worship:

I think a lot of us are running alone. Maybe we should do a pre race meet up to keep each other entertained while we wait for the race to start. :)

Not sure about what times = what corrals but all you need to submit a time is to either e-mail rundisney if the cutoff time is not passed or simply bring a print out of your time. I know many, many 10K's post online results, so if you can just print out a pageview, you should be good. When I e-mailed them my time last year, I just listed the name of the race, the city it was in, my name and my time - no further questions asked.

Thanks, LadyDooley!
I am very happy my family participates in the races. This will be my son's first, so it will be very special.
As far as passing you...not quite. :-) My goal is always to cross the finishline with energy to spare.

Not sure if any of us WISH'ers are wearing anything to identify ourselves, but I will most likely be wearing a pink TEAM 413 running shirt.

Taryn-Love your costume! SO cute!

Thanks everyone for the condolences and warm wishes.

Will, I tried for10 miles yesterday andit did NOT go well. I went with a good friend of mine who is a lot faster than me. She slowed down, and I sped up, but I think I went to fast. About 3.5 miles into it my right shin started KILLING me. I tried alternating walking and running but running just hurt too much. I've been ace wrapping, icing, and taking more Advil than I should. It feels a little better but still not great. I'm really hoping it's not a stress fracture. I'm gonna see if I can get in to see the doctor in the next week. I'm not sure if I need new running shoes. The ones I have I got in May, so they are 6 months old. But I haven't been going super long distances. I don't know. With all the family stuff going on, I'm probably not going to have a lot of time to run, I guess rest will be good. UUUGGGGHHHH!

Way to go for all of you who got long runs in this week. You all keep me inspired! princess:

I like this idea...we may not arrive in town early enough to meet on Friday evening.

Forgot, As far as a meet up goes, Friday would be great. I could do anywhere. We will peobably have a car. GF might be easy since we have a dinner ressie at Chef Mickey's that night. I can just hop the monorail and head over. But POR can work too.

I believe the cut off for submitted a time was on December 1st, but if you want to e-mail the address listed on the website here.

Your time is considered "certified" if it's a certified US Track and Field course. As someone else said, I also just sent mine in with the information they ask for. I assume they just look it up based on the information to confirm if they need to. They won't tell you (at least they didn't tell me) what corral I had been changed to. If they say you are too far past the deadline, I would bring a printout from the website and you can change it at one of the booths.

Sorry to hear your long run was so tough! I'm going to have a tough time keeping pace on 'the day', cause my husband is running with me. He will be able to just run the whole thing, pretty fast (to me) without stopping, but he says he wants us to do this together and run at my pace. I'm worried that I might push too hard because I'd feel like I was slowing him down. We've got some time to work it out, but still...

Also - are you wearing compression socks? I love, love, love, mine. I used to get shin splints and/or bad calf cramps until I started wearing them. I swear by them now. Not a peep of pain since I started running with them.

Tabetha, if you know what a comfortable pace for you is, my suggestion is to start your watch or some sort of timer when you cross the starting line, and then check it at every mile marker to make sure that you're not exceeding it. I ran a 20k with one of my friends, and we knew that a 12 minute mile pace was good for us, and we felt so good during one of the (early) miles that we ran it at under a 10 minute pace! Had we not checked our watches to keep ourselves on pace, we would have burned out way early in that race.

It will be tempting to run faster, but your body will thank you later if you go at your pace.

My husband is also faster than me so I need to get him to run a 5mph the way I do.

I definitely need to try compression socks. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks ladies - I'll watch my pacing like a hawk. I've been tempted to get one of those newfangled Garmin watches cause I find it cumbersome to check my pace on my iPhone Nike+ thingy.

A lot of us have Wish Princess bondibands. I think Heather (stitchfan18) ordered extras, so you may see if she has any left. They are only $5 plus $1 for shopping. There is a sticky thread on the main events page.

Can you take a short Ice bath?

There is a great natural anti-inflamatory cream called Blu Emu, you can get it at Walmart. Its not cheap, and its got Emu oil in it..... but I find it helps.

Another good one to try is Penetrex, but you can only get it online. It has Arnica oil in it - which is also a natural antiinflamatory and muscle reliever. You can get Arnica oil as well to massage it where it hurts......

I used these when I feel like I am taking too much ibuprophen.....

hoping its not a stress fracture for you. For me when I go too fast, my body sure lets me know. Keep us posted and don't push yourself race weekend faster than you are comfortable with.......
