Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

So...what is the longest run you ladies have done so far as part of your training?

21 on Dec 10th, but I had been training for a marathon. Now I am injured and rehabbing it, so I haven't done anything since Dec 17th when I tried 6 and it made the injury worse.

I am hoping to get back to running next week, but the leg has to cooperate.

I would love to do a get together. Friday nigt would be great. Don't know if I would want to drink too much so close to the race, but a margarita would be great!

So far the longest I have run is 10 miles and that was right after Thanksgiving. I'm planning on doing 10 tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to get out. This week has been crazy. Wednesday night DH's grandfather passed away and his dad had a heart attack that 2 days later now he is in the hospital for. So since DH left work early today he has to go back in to finish up a bunch of stuff. I'm supposed to go run with a friend so maybe her DH can take all the kids. What's 7 kids in your house? Luckily they are all friends with one another.

Love your costume Freepixie! That is such a great idea!

Colleen, hope the 10 went well!!

So so sorry for all the upheaval and loss in your household.

colleen, what a week! Hoping your FIL gets well soon. Sorry to hear about your loss.....even when its not a complete surprise, its hard to say goodbye! Thinking of your family.

Hugs to you Colleen!

Kat hope you're on the mend!

I've researched options for a location to meet and will leave it to everyone for a vote! The two options I came up with are POR or the GF.

The Grand Floridian is a NICE resort. We could meet on the ground floor, as there is plenty of room for sitting and visiting. I know there is Mizner's Lounge that serves light snacks and has a full bar. We could either relocate there (not sure how kid friendly that is) or bring our beverages back to the lobby area. As nobody seems to be staying here, it would be a fair choice. It is accessible by monorail, boat or bus. Typically parking is limited to guests only, but I've always gotten away with parking next door at the Wedding Pavilion and walked on the path to the GF. ;-)

Port Orleans RIVERSIDE has a decent size room just off the Lobby with plenty of seating room. There is not a lounge within that building, but I do not believe the River Roost is far. I am not sure how kid friendly it may be as I'm not that familiar with POR. There are a fair number of DIS posters staying at this location. This resort is accessible by boat (from DTD) and bus. I'm not sure if there would be any issues with parking at this resort, I doubt it.

I looked into the Top of the World Lounge area of Bay Lake Towers, but all the guests must be DVC members. It's pretty exclusive, but still hubba hubba!

Please cast your vote! I'm thinking of Friday night at 7pm? We could do a group photo too!

I won't be available on Monday morning, but if any of you all want to get together then, there is a bakery at the Boardwalk that would be convenient. Parking is usually a problem as you have to pay though.

Being a bit selfish, can we think about maybe sometime Saturday instead of Friday? As a semi-local, I will be driving up Sat morning. Maybe a lunchtime meet?

I think the advantage of the GF is the fact that it's pretty central to a park - not everyone will have a car, and so travelling to a resort has to be done by first transporting to a park (or Downtown Disney).

With the GF, we could just travel to the TTC and then hit the monorail for 2 stops.

I learned my lesson last year and booked a room on property this time.
Not a big fan of All Star Sports but I can handle it for 2 nights.
Going to be a walker this race. My BFFs are not runners and said they would do it with me if I would walk it with them. I don't mind. I'm not a fast runner anyway.
Last year I took it too serious and I really don't remember much of it. This time I'm going to have fun and I not worry about my time.
We can't decide what to wear. No princess costumes but some kind of cute t-shirt or something. Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks!!

I am not sure I will be able to make a meet, so my vote likely doesn't count! :)

However, you can park at any resort just by telling the guard that you are about to eat in one of the restaurants, which technically, you are. That also counts for parking at the BW - just say you are picking up something from the bakery or meeting someone for breakfast and in my experience, they will wave you on no problem.

GF is easy to get to from the monorail, but the parking there sucks as you have to park across the street and walk. Granted, we are all in shape enough to run or walk 13.1 miles, so maybe that isn't really an issue.

Since I am coming down with 11 non-DISers I am not sure I will be able to make it to a meet, but I wish I could. I will look for you all at the start though!!!

So...what is the longest run you ladies have done so far as part of your training?

I did a half at the end of October. Then "rested" for awhile. Yesterday, I did 11 miles but I am doing the Tinker Bell in three weeks. After the Tink, I will probably do a couple of 11 mile training sessions before the Princess.

I can't decide what to wear either. Guess it is time to plan that.
I have been out with a cold for 3 days and finally went out running today. I did 5.5 with no problem. I plan on doing 8 on Friday.
Now that Christmas is over I am looking forward to this trip.

Here is a mock-up of my outfit...

I am running with about 11 other ladies and we are mostly wearing the same outfits, but in different colors. We will be a rainbow of Minnies!

I love that!!! So pretty! I was just at the fabric store today trying to scope out what I will use for my Tinkerbell skirt. Have a tutu-like thing from last year, but it's too short to be on its own and I don't want my black running skirt sticking out underneath.

Where did you get this idea? This is what I'm looking for! Thank you so much for posting the picture

Occasionally I will look at it, but I have not posted on there cause I haven't told many people that I will be doing the Princess - only my immediate family and my one uncle and aunt b/c they will be in FL at the same time, and I told a few of my Zumba friends. I'm not ready for the rest of my 99 friends on FB to find out til afterwards ;)

I am so glad you posted this! I have not told anyone except for DH, my mother, sister and 1 friend. I am really just enjoying having my little "secret". I guess I am hoping someone will spontaneous say "Hey, you look like your getting in shape" and I will be able to reply..."Yes! I am!". No one has said this yet! LOL :confused3 Its make me feel better that someone else is also enjoying the secret.

Well, I've been posting very little but keeping tabs on everyone else while I have been trying to recover from IT band syndrome. I am happy to say that I went out and took advantage of Swinter in NE PA. It was a balmy 48 today for the run. I actually got to wear capris but many others out running were in shorts. I wanted to wear my running sleeves with a tank but I didn't feel I "deserve" them yet as I am just getting back to training more seriously. Not quite sure I look like I am a serious enough runner to sport sleeves. Many had on the leg sleeves though with thier shorts. Looked cute. BTW I am totally getting into the fastinista thing!

I did 5 miles (walk one song run one song up to 2.5 mile mark, walk one song, run 2 songs for last 2.5 miles). Finished in 59 min and 4 sec. An 11:54 pace. I was very happy with this time. Up to last half mile I thought I could go forever but then got a reality check that my knees are not quite ready. Hope to do 2 runs this week. Thinking I will run walk 2 miles then try to do the 3rd mile a straight run walk a cool down half.

Was definately thinking of all of you out there training. Very motivating! Mad I'm only at a 5 mile long run, but, as long as I am recovering and not re-injuring I'm happy. Going to shoot for 6-7 next week as long as short runs go well.

Was also thinking of the other Amy's notes on the types of runners. I had the nicest interaction with a BIKER! Not a Hell's Angel but a cyclist. He took hand of handle bars to wave, BIG smile and a verbal Good Morning. I think I even saw a little twinkle in his eye! Motivated me as I felt the comradery of enjoying the exercise on such a nice day.

Good luck to all of those brave enough to marathon tomorrow! And to our friends being "goofy" this weekend. Can't wait to hear about it.

So cute! Where did you get the idea? This is what I'm looking for.

I was really up for the meet/greet on Friday and hoping for POR or POFQ bc I'm staying at Riverside. However, I just realized that I am suppose to be at dinner and see Illuminations that night. I will keep tabs on the thread and hopefully be able to meet up at some time.

After this weekend, I am seriously reconsidering staying at an all star. Kids were screaming at the pool at midnight! Are the moderates a bit quieter? It would be 80 dollars total to upgrade to POR...thoughts?

Upgrade, if you can get availability and the 80 won't break you. Just my opinion, though.

Got our 11 miles done today! We were going great til mile 9 and my mom started getting cramps. I took a look at her water bottle and realized she didn't drink enough. She was getting dehydrated so we stopped and walked most of the last 2. Silly mom didn't want to have to take a potty break so she wasn't drinking! I told her she better have learned her lesson!

I think I will...it doesn't break the bank at all, I'm just a frugal person. :) I like the decor and location of the All Stars just fine (they have that Disney feel), but the noise factor is the issue. Looks like the layout of POR controls that better.
