Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I have 2 things ready - I guess I will decide on race day which one to wear!!

Tinkerbell - I made a neon green skirt from dancewear material, and added shimmery petals over it, I would wear that with running shorts underneath, and I have a neon green UA shirt for the top, and I do have a pair of wings that light up - they were child size so I adjusted them to fit my big old arms!!

Jessie (Toy Story) - I bought a child size costume and jacked it up a bit - I took the chaps and wonder-undered them to a pair of tech capris. For the top, I bought 2 tech tanks at Target - a white one and a yellow one - then cut them each in half and sewed a yellow upper to a white one, then used puffy paint for the stitching effect. I also had bought a hat at the Disney store around Halloween, its glittery and has a detachable braid!!

Whenever I get around to it, I will post pics :goodvibes

Hey what is "wonder-undered"? Yep, I am not afraid to try new things and looking for easy way to attach my mulan cumberbund... ;-)

We have that Jessie hat, its so cute. I loved the couple last year that ran as Jessie and Woody!

Sounds GREAT!

REGARDING "COSTUMES" in general.....some people wear full out costume, some wear technical running clothes only.....and LOTS of in between. So if you are not inclined, don't worry about theme or princess as there are tons of peeps there in athletic clothes. Want to dress up or just wear a tiara and tutu or sparkle skirt.....lots of that too! I am slow, so whatever I wear, needs to be on me for 3 hours.

I got chaffed last year for the first time with my bra, so bodyglide is a good idea!

Got fitted for my race shoes today, need to start the break-in this week, and I am now in an Asics GT2160 men's shoe since I have a 2E width foot, agh! I did see that the GT2170 women's can be ordered in a 2E online, will have to figure that out.

I had bought a pair of sacsony(?) for daily wear in november but the sides rubbed out, so annoyed because the feel of the foot bed was awesome.

Bodyglide is purchased too, lol.

I'm not going to go with a full costume. But I'm doing Cinderella with a light blue Sparkle skirt and light blue tech shirt. I still have to order the tiara visor. I've been debating whether or not to do white arm warmers for the gloves. I'm afraid I'll get too hot. Of course I still have to order the sparkle skirt too.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement and well wishes. I will know if my issues are permanent or if I'll be able to defer to another Half by next Friday.

In the meantime, I can support you all and help inspire you to run farther and stay warm!

Has anyone come up with any suggestions of a meet and greet at all? Perhaps the freeloaders staying at the Poly can host it! :rotfl2: JK!

I still plan on being the transportation from Bay Lake (just upgraded to a 2012 Town & Country for your riding pleasure ladies) the morning of.

We'll roll into town on Friday afternoon from SC. Would love to get together with anyone/everyone. We could catch up at DTD or meet at an unexpecting Resort bar like the Trail's End bar at the Ft Wilderness Campground, the Wave at the Contemporary? I hear that POR has a piano man/entertainer that is adult and kid friendly. It starts at 8:30 and goes to midnight Wed thru Sat, and the same for POFQ. MK is open until 11pm and EPCOT is open until midnight, so depending on which resort you may be staying at, you can hop on a bus to a park, then on another bus back to your resort. Let Disney do the sober driving! Anyone up for a Friday night family-style get together???

OMG Wonder-under is the most awesome thing in the world lol! I'm such a dork!

Anyhow, its this paper-like thing that makes any material an iron-on - for mine, I first cut out the chaps and ironed the wonder-under on, then when it cooled, I peeled off the paper backing, and then ironed it onto the pants! I think I took a few pics of that process, so I will look back thru and if I find it, I will post it :goodvibes

You can buy wonder-under at any fabric store, just ask, they know what it is, and they can probably explain better about which side to use and how to iron it! The brand I found this time was called "Pellon."

Alright! Found 'em!! First, I apologize I do not know how to resize so these will probably be really big!! Second, I apologize how messy the house looks lol, don't judge me!

Here's the kid costume as I'm starting to hack it:

This is after I cut out the one chap, and I had just ironed on the wonder-under paper backing:

Then I cut the chaps to be the size I wanted to put it on the capris:

Ironed on the first one:

Pants are complete:

I really wish I would have taken pics of how I made the shirt and even how I made my Tink outfit, but I really forgot that I wanted to!! Anyhow, I hope that helps give a visual of how I did it! This weekend I think I'll get all dressed up and post pics of my costumes :goodvibes

I just posted this story to the Tinkerbell thread too.
And here's my balloon lady story:
My first Disney 1/2 marathon was the Princess last Feb. I wasn't in the know about the balloon lady.
When I was around mile 9, I saw a lady walking with the vans right after her. I felt bad for her that she was the last one. I stopped to take a picture. Later, when I was on the bus, I zoomed in on the picture and saw 2 huge balloons tied around her waist. Just then I figured it out! Plus the next day I read someones' blog and she had pictures posted. She had one of herself with some characters and her face was so funny because she had just seen the balloon lady. I loved her blog, it was great!

Here's hoping we all beat the balloon lady (although I'm sure she's a quite nice person)! :yay:

Did you beat her? I am assuming you did. :)

Got fitted for my race shoes today, need to start the break-in this week, and I am now in an Asics GT2160 men's shoe since I have a 2E width foot, agh! I did see that the GT2170 women's can be ordered in a 2E online, will have to figure that out.

Pj

I wear ASICs 2150s, also in men's. I would need a women's 10.5 wide and that was special order, so I went with the men's 8.5.

Free pixie...love it!

As for a GTG, need to figure out what we are doing Friday and Sat..though the line about you free upgrade gals hosting totally cracked me up. So jealous....but what wonderful pixie dust!

question : I need to order a skirt this weekend....I have a team sparkle skirt and like it very much. Always wondered the difference in that and the Sparkle Skirt Light....BUT the difference in cost with shipping is $13. I know the sparkle skirt has a pocket and wider band.....wondering if I should still fork out the difference just to know or go with what has worked for me on many a race.

OH and my Mulan headband came in, man that thing is HEAVY and I would totally get headband headache if I wore as designed, but I figured out how to reengineer on my hat. ;-) Its the little thing that make me happy.....

Oh and for the December slackers, we know who we are.....I got a great workout in today on the treadmill.....2.96 mile hill workout...so on track this week to get my 3 runs in. WAHOO though my shins were not happy after I was done. Not horrible, but every twinge scares me. Doing 5 this weekend, then next weekend 8.5. So far up to 7 miles with no worries.

So...what is the longest run you ladies have done so far as part of your training?

10.5km or 6.35 miles, and that was way back in mid-October, injuries have keep me to under 6km since then.

I would love to do a get together. Friday nigt would be great. Don't know if I would want to drink too much so close to the race, but a margarita would be great!

So far the longest I have run is 10 miles and that was right after Thanksgiving. I'm planning on doing 10 tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to get out. This week has been crazy. Wednesday night DH's grandfather passed away and his dad had a heart attack that 2 days later now he is in the hospital for. So since DH left work early today he has to go back in to finish up a bunch of stuff. I'm supposed to go run with a friend so maybe her DH can take all the kids. What's 7 kids in your house? Luckily they are all friends with one another.

Love your costume Freepixie! That is such a great idea!

Thanks. DH's grandfather was 94, almost 95. He pretty much went out on his terms. He wanted to go to Florida for the winter and he did. That's where he passed, actually while out to dinner. He never wanted to be in a nursing home or assisted living. He still had his independence and all his faculties. It was just so all of a sudden, but at his age anything is possible.

My father-in-law on the other had was a bit of a shocker. Luckily DH is an RN and just left working at the hospital his dad is at, so he knows everyone and which doctors are the ones you want. Fortunately that made things go a lot smoother. He's just had to deal with his neurotic mother all day and has now taken over for his dad with a lot of the funeral arrangements, so it's been a lot on him all day. I'm just trying to keep things running smooth on the home front and explain to the kids what's going on.

...
Anyone up for a Friday night family-style get together???

Me! :yay:

Our plans keep changing, but right now it looks like I'll be there solo with my 9-year-old daughter, but she'll have a great time as long as it's not too late. We're staying at POFQ so I vote for POFQ or POR but that's just selfish! ;)

Disneyboyz, keep us posted. Fingers crossed for next year!

TMcDwyer So...what is the longest run you ladies have done so far as part of your training?

I did 10 miles on my 42nd birthday in November. I have done a couple of 8.5 milers since then. The 10 mile thing is a big barrier in my mind, somehow, so I'm hoping to break it a few times between now and then.

As for my costume, I keep trying to decide if I can manage a simple "bookish belle" costume (light blue skirt and modified tank over a white tech shirt, and a blue bow in my hair) or to just go with something comfy.

This weekend is 9.5 miles (darnit!).

Cate

Freepixie, amazing costume!

Freepixie, that costume is fabulous! Great job!

I was torn between Aurora & Tink and I think that I have finally settled on Tink. I remember you said you got child-sized wings and I think that would be better - no flopping all over the place. I'm going to get green felt and cover my shoes and put a big 'ol white pom-pom on the top of each.

Last year I found some knee socks in the clearance section at Target for .50 and planned for those to be my arm warmers - cut the foot out, and they are disposable b/c you didn't really spend much on them. As it was, I really didn't need them last year but I'll do it again this year just in case.

So...what is the longest run you ladies have done so far as part of your training?

I am a little behind, so I've only gotten up to 8. This weekend is schedule as 4, but next is down for 9.5 - 10.

This week has been crazy. Wednesday night DH's grandfather passed away and his dad had a heart attack that 2 days later now he is in the hospital for.

Colleen - sorry to hear about your husband's family! Hope his dad is better soon!

Anyone up for a Friday night family-style get together???

I wanted to do the pasta in the park party but since it's sold out, I would love to meet some of my fellow princess runners!

OMG Wonder-under is the most awesome thing in the world lol! I'm such a dork!

I realized that's what my mom calls double-sided interface material. That's actually a great idea for making a costume. I'm playing with a Snow White or Belle costume but need to figure out how I"m getting that done.

10.5km or 6.35 miles, and that was way back in mid-October, injuries have keep me to under 6km since then.

So much more than me!!!:lmao: The farthest I have run is 4.5 miles. I have been adding a mile every week to get used to it slowly.

I would love to do a get together. Friday nigt would be great. Don't know if I would want to drink too much so close to the race, but a margarita would be great!

Did someone say Marrrrrgaaaaariiiita!? Lots of salt please.

So sorry about your family. My condolences.

Does anyone have any children running in the Royal Family Races?
