I use kt tape. I have used it for itbs, tendonitis in my foot, p-f, and currently have a piece on my ankle for a strain. If applied right, I think it can do wonders. My therapist showed me how to put it on, but there are videos online. I just finished going to p-t for lots of problems in my right foot, including the ankle strain. The strain was pretty bad, so I imagine I will be running with the kt tape on for awhile. I think the big benefit for me, is that it helps keep the inflammation down and things heel better. Is anyone else using kinesio tape? I used some on my left knee (I'm having popliteal issues due to lose/weak ligaments in that knee) and felt amazing during my run today. Just wondering if anyone else was using it also =)
My knee did the same thing after my 11 mile run on Dec. 28. It has slowly been improving, but I've had to reduce my milage on my long runs since then.
I did 7.7 last Wednesday, and hope to increase up to 12 about 2 weeks before the Princess. I'm getting frustrated with how long it's taking to improve. I've also been running a lot slower than I had been, trying to remind myself I just need to beat 16mm. Do you have to see a PT to learn how to tape your knee? Of course, keeping up with 3 kids and a full time job on my feet all day on ceramic tile doesn't help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Julie--have you tried wiping rubbing alcohol over the area that you are applying the tape to? If I have any lotion on (even a tiny bit) or used soap with lotion it won't stick. I also don't apply right before a run. Use the paper part of the tape to rub the tape on. The heat is supposed to help make it stick. And last, there are different brands, so it might be worth trying another brand. Sometimes mine will stick for days, sometimes just through a workout. Once or twice it's come off during a workout. Will go for 10 this weekend....My 9 miler went well 2 weeks ago, so I have faith! I wish I could use KT tape, my feet are sweaty or something as I can't get it to stay on.
Now the all important working on of the outfit.....its gonna be good I think, putting it together this week.
If you have a pic of your, go ahead and post it. Its great running on the course and recognizing a DISer!
Has anyone seen the necklace from the Tinkerbell Half?? Is there a picture?? I'm really curious about the one for the Princess!!!!
It sounds like you just had one BAD run, since your other distance runs were going so much better. It's enormously frustrating to have a bad run, and I know it makes me question my ability to run at all when I have one. Other than trying to analyze any differences before your bad run and normal runs, such as the amount of sleep you got or your hydration before the run, sometimes I guess you just have to chalk it up to being a bad run and look forward to the next one being better. Easier said that done when you've just had such a hard time, but it does pass. Pixie dust for your next runs!![]()
Tabetha, you know you can do it, I will wave as you pass me,![]()
Happy to report I finished my 11 miles on the TM this morning in 1:58:29. Not too bad, and the ankle feels great.
I've got a non-Disney race report. I did a half marathon locally yesterday. I was GREAT until mile 5-6 and I just slumped. My time stank, I was walking a lot, I starting thing... WHY am I DOING this! I HATE this! Too long, too long, too long....
That's when I realized what was missing. The CASTLE! LOL Right at the time I was bonking and getting down, I cheered up knowing that in a month, it will be MK time. That will totally get me through to mile 7!
In my race yesterday I picked it back up from 7-8, then 9 was struggling with my right calf. By 10 it was over as far as any running- my calf was seizing up if I ran farther than 10 feet. Redonkulous. I felt GREAT everywhere else and thought I would make it in around 3 hours.... but it was not meant to be. I ended up walking the final 5K.
That was a bummer, but I was happy with the race over all. Knowing that I will have the castle and characters as inspiration will make the next one better!
Anyone have an idea on why ONE calf muscle would freak out when I ran, but not when I walked? I was well hydrated and electrolyted and felt good everywhere else. My magical Zenzah calf sleeves couldn't stop the freak out either. Sniff. I was so sad. I even tried to run through the finish line and COULDN'T! That sucked.
I'm excited, too, cause we're finishing our contract on the ship this weekend, so we will be running on LAND starting Feb 5. No more treadmills - we'll have scenery! Hooray. Plus we're spending a week at WDW as soon as we get off the ship! Double Hooray!
