Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Hey! I'm new on this thread, so sorry if I missed a post on this topic, but have they released the medal for the Princess? I can't believe it's only 26 days away!!!! :) Look forward to seeing ya'll there!

Thanks!princess:

Longhorns2, is the calf pain in your dominant side? I'm right handed, and there is a noticable difference in strength and flexibility between my right and left side. It could be that your one side is just feeling "neglected." I know that my left side is much more prone to being stiff and pain (both shin and calf).

It is my dominant side- my right calf. I wonder if I was compensating too much somewhere or what. The crazy thing is, now, 2 days later, no pain in calves- either one of them. It was just ON the run. Weird, huh?

I like breaking it down to a couple of 5Ks as well. I am so mental... that might help!

I look at the Princess in three parts....the first 5 (well 5 and a half) to the castle. A few photos ops and some of those you can get on the "back" (as in out and back). There are mile markers and some photo ops at the MK parking lot. If you are in first few corrals this part can also be dark (before sunrise not creepy dark). Next 5... the castle with lots of photo ops and backstage with photo ops followed by the long road back. They do have princesses along the way but it's the middle of the race. Then the final 5k, starting with the swooping uphill on-ramp and back to Epcot with the finally mile at Epcot and more photo ops.

For me the first part is run, make some time so when I get to the castle I can get photos and enjoy myself. I think this is a good idea for those that may have trouble keeping pace. The next five is a pick and choose for me. If it is a princess I am fond of or has a special meaning for me I will stop, but I don't stop for all. The last 5k is run until I hit Epcot and take photos if I want them and I also take a moment at the Gospel choir, they are at mile 13 and one of my favorite.

Love that way of looking at it! Thanks!

I was at the Tinker Bell 1/2 this weekend (didn't run it because it was too late to buy a bib). The weather at Disneyland was fantastic! We ran the 5K Friday night and had a blast.

I'm REALLY glad I did this! Going to the Expo and being there the whole weekend answered a lot of my questions into the Princess 1/2.

The thing that is REALLY sticking out to me the most is what I read on the Tink Half thread regarding those in the last corral that were swept. I have this horrible feeling that I will end up in that last corral for Princess fighting my way up through the crowds without ever taking one photo so I don't get swept....:sad1: I'm really stressed about this.

I ran the 13/1 miles a few weeks ago just for the heck of it since I haven't had much time to train and I was able to do it in 3hrs 10 min. That was with me crawling during miles 12 & 13 and walking during miles 7 & 11. I think if I get in some more training (and less time at work) I can speed things up a bit...

Here's a screen shot of us @ the Never Land 5K @ Disneyland Friday night. We are both wearing Team Sparkle skirts (she also got the wings from them). I waited too long to come up with a costume so wore my Jack Skellington jacket. The Lost Boys kept calling me a Pirate!

Thanks for commiserating, fellow calf issue runners! Just hoping it doesn't happen again at the Princess.

For those with real injuries- I am so sorry! I had yall in the back of my mind when debating on pushing the running or not. This was a "training race" for me, so I didn't want to hinder my Princess prospects! I really hope yall can get fixed up and work it out!

Further race report- I only peed 5 times total, down from 15+ last year. LMAAAAAAO PROGRESS! I'll take it where I can find it. It helped that we had great weather, and awesome water/gatorade stations. I didn't wear a hydration belt so I didn't feel like I needed to keep drinking like last year. That may change though if the warm weather holds up in Orlando. Gah!

I also do a spi belt- wear the pack on my back and it works great for me. holds loads of stuff in that sucker!

Question- or comment- or whatever you want to call it. Someone on another board said they look at their races as a 10 mile run, with a 3.1 mile race at the end. In other words, they don't race from start to finish. The race happens for them at the end. I liked that idea because mentally it might keep me at a better pace in the beginning so I have something more for the end. Does anyone here think their races through like that? Or how do you mentally run your race?

yes - that's exactly how i look at it. the first 10 miles are for pacing, the last 3.1 miles are for racing and time to kick it into high gear.

I think this is a great link on racing strategy for a half (i'm a huge glover fan in general)

LOVE your picture! So cute. Try not to worry about getting swept. If you have been training and averaging the 16mm pace, you are good. If you are faster than that, well you will have some cushion. Try to move up as close to the front as possible too! If you have already done 13.1, I am sure you will be fine.

Been working on my outfit....Mulan. HI will post a picture later.

Anyone else got princess attire ready to share?

Hey ladies!

Hope everyone is doing well. Just got back from Disneyland, earned by C2C medal and soooo looking forward to the Princess! That was my third half and I am getting addicted to them :scared1:

Do we have any DIS Meets set up yet?

Also, I will making some WISH bracelets for the race so I would like a count of who would like one? They are my treat.... I will probably put the order in next week so feel free to respond here or PM me. I have done them for the last two Disney races in lime green but for the Princess, I am thinking something more pink :lovestruc

I wonder how many guys on here besides me are running this race. I talked mg DW into running it. It will be her first. Got some Pink arm warmers to wear. I have a feeling there won't be that many guys. Corral question for those that might know, for the Disney Half I started in A. Will they allow guys to start towards the front? Good luck to all those training for this race. It's just a huge achievement mentally to get this far.

You can look at last years results to see how few men run. I could be wrong, but I don't remembering them letting men start in corral a. I think you may be in B.

Also it can be hard to know if a "princess" is actually a man..I have seen a few in full costume and makeup and some other pretty impressive outfits as well. You could always dress as your wife's favorite prince (of course you may be your wife's favorite prince). :goodvibes

Not sure if you guys have seen it or not but I started a thread in "Events/Competition" same spot as ours about "Sample Menus: what do you eat the night before and the day of the race". We've gotten some great responses from some men and women that you can tell are serious distance runners. I've found it very interesting. So check it out!

Again , you can PM me if you would like to be added to the Hotel list (we have like 85 runners listed!

Side note, had an effortless 4 miler today and PR'ed it by 3 minutes. If every run went like this I would be one happy gal! My new BFF is..... KT Tape! Tore my ACL in Highschool and have been having minor knee pain after about 8 miles lately so I watched the video and applied the tape. Worked like a champ! I :lovestruc KT Tape!!!!!!

Michele

Thanks Joan. I thought that might be the case, which is totally understandable.
Love the Prince Idea. I would have to compete with Beast to have a chance to be DW's fav :).

Michelle, where did you find the video for taping your knee? I tore my ACL in high school too and my knee has been hurting. I've been wondering if its related to my ACL tear.

My wife, along with her two sisters, will be running the half and I have been helping along with various details. Following the race they will be heading off to the port to take in a 4 day cruise on the Disney Dream. So some questions around that. From what I have searched in this thread and others, it doesn't sound like there are many others (if any) doing the same thing.

They are in the last corral and so I believe that means a 6:30 start time, right? Counting on about a 3hr race time, what can be expected in terms of getting back to their resort (POR) via the bus system?

Need to arrange private car transport to the port and so wanting to figure out the pickup time at the resort. They don't mind hanging out for a bit at the race, cooling down, having some food, but then moving on to shower and clean up and then head for the great reward of food and fun on the ship. They don't want to be rushed, but the goal is to get to the ship sooner than later. For those who have stayed at POR in the past, what is realistic for timing?

Thanks in advance for any input or advice that any of you can offer.

No, you'll have to bump back to b. I had the same issue when I wanted to start with my dad two years ago - I was in a, but he was in b because he was a boy. There was such a wide range of pace for these corrals anyways (a is anything sub 2, and b is 2:01-2:30 i believe) that I found when we started in the front of b we were able to run what we wanted to no problem since the front of the race was so spread out anyways. Have fun!

I THINK there were only like 400 men last year in the race and none allowed in Corral A, though a guy crossed the finish line first I heard to dead silence as he didn't officially win. Take that for what its worth.

My mulan tribute outfit is coming together. The pink skirt I had, the red sparkle is a team sparkle skirt.....will be great for 4th of July or Christmas races later and the blue is a homemade blue sparkle I made last year. Wondering if its too loose and will bother my arms, so might have to tack some material I had left over after making the skirt on my shirt....but we shall see. I need a new hat, as that one is stained and 12 years old....the headband is from disney and poorly made. I might have to take it apart to secure it to my new hat so it doesn't bother me....but I do like it! This is just an idea....I will secure the pink ribbon better and maybe add a little pizzaz to my shirt. this is NOT the shirt i have I just had it on today after my run...... and to be frank. I also got some pink arm warmers today....ok they are knee socks from target marked down and if it is cold enough I will cut out the feet...

Hey if you aren't going to win, might as well have fun.

Thanks. Good advice. I'll definitely try and work my way to the front then. Avoiding the pack is always a goal of mine. Can't wait for the race. All Disney races are a blast.

:thumbsup2 Very cute!! I like it!! I think you might be more comfortable if you do make the blue part a little tighter, everything I've read says that the closer it is to your skin, the better it will feel!

I gotta get off my lazy butt and take pics of my outfits :lmao: Well between working 2 jobs, running, cross-training, home and church... I know... excuses excuses :lmao: I hope this weekend, I'm planning on doing NOTHING on Sunday (well, except going to church, can't blow off the Lord!)!! Finally a day off from both jobs, and I refuse to do anything :goodvibes
