Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

I only got 9.5 miles in yesterday. I was running a new route where I knew there were water fountains, so I only filled my handheld bottle up 1/2way. Got to mile 5, took my GU and drank the half bottle, then went to fill up and found out that they turn the water off during winter!!!! :scared1: So, I finished another 4.5 miles slightly dehydrated, but otherwise okay. Better dehydrated than overhydrated right? I just hate filling the handheld all the way because it makes my shoulder hurt after a while.

On another note, I finished my tutu! I already posted this in the outfit thread, but I'll put it here too. As for my top, I'll either wear a long sleeve tech shirt or a singlet (black).

u look marvelous!!! love it

Got in 8 miles today, walk with some jogging. The foot was o.k. I went back to the old shoes and they are good on my foot, but not as good on my knees. The news shoes bother my foot, but make my knee feel good. Grrr . . . . Pace was o.k. nothing to brag about . . . still working on that.

On a side note, I 3rd or 4th the sentiment that I am so excited to do this with friends and have a girl weekend. My parents will be down there, as they are snowbirds, so they will get to see this too!

Goal for the week: Get more weekly miles in and KEEP POSITIVE!

Way to go ingle! AT this point, don't worry about pace, just finish the race! Thanks for the good vibes.

The weather was so wonderful this weekend!! Now I have spring fever and it's not even February. I was so happy to get a nice run in outside.

I got a new smartphone and have the mapmyrun app. So I decided to try a new technique. Rather than running a set route, I went to my favorite area to run and just went. I was going to give myself 90 minutes and see how far I could go. It was so freeing. I did a few laps at the middle school track, ran through the park, explored a new neighborhood. I felt great and really thought I was going fast (for me). So right at one hour I decide to check my phone to see how I was doing. And guess what? It had been on pause the entire time! AAAAHHHH! I was so bummed!

So I have no idea how I really did, but I tried to track my route on the computer later. I think I did at least 5 miles in the first hour and about 2 after that. My goal for my next long run is 10 miles in 2 hours. Then I think I'm ready!

Just got back from a fabulous, 8 mile run. It was a great run and could have gone further.:) I ran it on an indoor running track. Sure beats running my LR on my treadmill.

Great job with your running ladies!

I am so sick of winter - actually the cold is fine, but the ice and snow are making me nuts trying to train! I am a total klutz on a treadmill so I have been running on a small indoor track.

Oh well, I got in my 8 miles yesterday - only took me 96 laps :rotfl2:

The best part of the day was meeting my sister and niece for trip planning lunch. We surprised my niece by getting all of us matching hoodies from Running Princess. We are soooo ready to go!

Hey guys! 4 weeks and counting!!! I finally got around to doing video interviews with my 4 teammates. Here is the video:

Keep running all!
OMG! I was laughing soooo hard at your video that my family made me start it over so they could watch it too! Thanks for posting it, enjoyed getting to know your group.

Finished my "training" half-marathon race yesterday ahead of the sweep time, so I'm getting even more excited about the Princess.

Bought my tulle & ribbon to make my tutu yesterday since we were in "the big city" for my race. (No place in town carries it and I didn't want to make the two hour drive back to Phoenix to do shopping in the next week or so.) Gotta get my iron-on paper printed at an Office Max then I can make my shirt too!

It's so exciting! In just four short weeks, we'll have already completed our Princess race! :cheer2:

That's funny. I hope it gets warmer here before my 14 mile training in two weeks. Our little indoor track is 18 laps per mile so 14 miles would be 266 laps. Aaaah! Can't imagine doing 266 laps.

I can hardly wait to meet you great gals!

So I haven't run in a week and it feels great :) I think my body needed a break. I'll be back running on Tuesday. At this point I'm not worried about mileage, I've gone 11 miles already. Last year I needed to get over 13.1 so I would know that I could do it. I'd like to do 14 before the race, but if it doesn't happen, it's ok, I know I can do a half marathon.

On the costume front...I've decided not to wear a tiara! I'm wearing a running outfit to match Ariels 'town' outfit, so my mom and I decided that a big black bow would be more fitting. I'm still bring the tiara visor to wear at the parks though.

Wow, you are pretty!!!! I hope I see you in Florida!

I jogged 10 inside yesterday. I ate a chocolate GU along the way, and had to walk a bit at mile 8. Then, "Mr. Blue Sky" came on the ipod and I cranked up the speed and finished strong.

That song really pumps me up!!! as well as the sugar in the GU! Ha Ha

So far as I know, I will be wearing warm black pants, a warm pink top with Ariel bib and maybe a tiara. Under the sweatshirt and windbreaker jacket! Lol

Let's all pray for blue skies on race day!! :)

I got up to 8 miles last week doing a combination of walking and running. I felt okay on Monday but Tuesday started to have pain in my left shin. I am terrified:worried:of shin splints. I was getting them when I first started training last summer. On Friday night, I hit 2 miles and had to stop. I skipped my lr on Sunday. I have done heat, Epsom soaks, Ibuprofin and stretching. I have ordered compression sleeves for my calves to try too. Any other suggestions? I feel confident that I have the endurance cardiovascular wise and muscle wise to finish but not with this severe pain. Help!!

WOW, what an emotional running-filled weekend I had! First, I did 10 miles on saturday morning for the first time ever!!!! I made it in 1:59:42...which was a little slower pace than I normally am, but I'm totally ok with it and I finished strong! I finished right in front of my neighborhood and on the short walk back to my front door I just fell apart! The mental gravity of getting over the double-digit hump and thinking about where I was a year ago, even 6 months ago, and then where I am now...oh man, it just all came down on me at once and I was a blubbering princess when i walked in the door! :confused3 My poor BF was on the couch watching tv and I think really freaked for a minute because he didn't know what was wrong. Kind of felt good to get it all out and just exhale. We're almost there!

Then on sunday my BF ran his first-ever full marathon so I was all over the city to cheer him on at mile 5, 10, 17 and the finish line...horribly humid conditions yesterday so I just felt awful for him. It made it SUCH a struggle and he dealt with some cramping half way through, but still finished strong and I'm so proud of him. Just being out there cheering for the runners was really fun and really got me pumped up! There was a half going on as well and I got to see alot of them finish too...I just had chills and was so emotional for him all day and for myself thinking about crossing a finish line like that in just a few weeks!!! :woohoo:

I have not been training at ALL like I should be - work and vacation got in the way, plus the fear. I am planning on mostly walking and just hoping I'll finish.

I've had a twinge here and there but nothing major.

Not a momo. I was given that advice by someone else. :goodvibes

I also use glide on my feet sometimes to prevent blisters.

I have not been training either like I should.... after the stress fracture, then having strep and January being beyond busy at work for me - i haven't gotten nearly enough time under my belt. I'm so filled with fear that I'm now going with the hopes that the excitement will carry me. I am so afraid of failing, but I'm trying my best to see how far I can get.

Did skipping that run seem to help? Maybe you're adding miles more quickly than your body can adjust. Can you slow down on upping your miles?

This is not expert or medical advice by any means, but.... A longtime runner friend of mine counselled me a few months back when I started adding miles and experiencing shin pain that "shin splints happen" and you kind of have to train through them. (He likened them to developing a callus when you play guitar, etc.) His advice was if it's unbearbale don't run, but if I could, keep up minimum miles and keep training, they would go away in time. It worked for me.

Also, check your shoes. Are they brand-new? Maybe breaking them in will help. Are they old? Maybe replacing them will help.

Sorry, chickie, :sad1: I know this is frustrating and scary! Report back in and let us know how it's going.... :goodvibes

I love these kinds of runs! I miss them, too. Training runs are great in that there's a sense of accomplishment as I "check" each one off and they each move me closer to a concrete goal, but boy do I miss just running alongside Hubby without a care in the world: "Pace? Time? Pshaw! I'm just running 5 miles."
