Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

If you go to the main page of the DISboards there is a sticky right at the top. Inside is a link to a video tutorial that shows you just how to do it. You have to use photobucket or some other photo sharing site that lets you save your pic as a weblink.
The video tutorial is really good and step by step. Check it out!

great, thank you!

Holy smokes you guys. It is COOOOLLLD in South Korea. Like the coldest winter in 50 some years. Of course that happens the winter I decided to train for a half marathon right? So today I had no choice but to do my long run on the treadmill. 3 of us did a 7 miler on the river trails on Monday as a group and there were tears and melt-downs. It was NOT a good day. So I did 12 miles on a treadmill. It was Draconian. Like I felt like I was on there for HOURS and I was! Got through it by slinging my ipad over the top of the TM and watching horrible reality TV. Toddlers and Tiaras, Cake Boss, the list goes on and on. It was fascinating and horrible at the same time, but it got me through it and the ipad covered up the time I had left to run thank God! Here's hopin' for an early Feb heat wave for next week!

Good on ya for getting through it!! Thank goodness for portable entertainment, right?!?

ok, I think I have the picture posting thing figured out...here's the tutu I'm wearing for race day! (I could have picked a better mirror to use! :))

Just a friendly reminder to all those wearing costumes, tutus, or the like... Make sure you're wearing your complete outfit on at least one of your longer training runs (not just a little trot around the block) so you know how it's going to react. I saw a few miserable runners during the regular half because their oh-so-cute costume didn't work so well on the longer run - and I opted not to go for any kind of tiara or ears headband as a result of my trying it and throwing the darn thing off my head by mile 2 or a long run.
:goodvibes

So I need someone to talk me out of my tree again. I am just about working myself into a state over my right calf/back of knee. Background:

Hubby and I let the office a bit early to drop off food for a friend who's been ordered onto bedrest in the last weeks of her preganancy (baby is fine, just big and maybe coming a bit early. Mom's BP is running too high, though).

After that we decided to hit the gym for our short run (3 miles) so we'd have a place to change and would beat both rush hour traffic and the after-work gym crowd. I wasn't thrilled with the dreadmill idea--esp since I had no music or other distraction, but 3 miles, no problem, right?

Nuh-uh. So I managed to get halfway into the zone and was loping along at training pace but doing steady running (no walk intervals) and thinking, "hey, this is not bad." Then at mile 2, the upper portion of my right calf started tightening up, threatening to cramp--just like in mile 8 of the long run on Saturday. I tried to run through it for a while, thinking maybe if I shorten my strides, etc.

So then the tightness moved up behind my right knee. And stayed there. I walked the last 1/4 mile of my workout.

I did a good stretch after the run. Did some more stretching before bed because it felt tight again after sitting to eat dinner and then watch some TV. And it's tight again this a.m.

It's not pain, it's not a cramp, but it feels tight on the inside of the back of my knee. Tendon? Muscle? Can I stretch it out? Do I need to do something different? Can I eat a mess of bananas to help this?

Words of wisdom?!?!?

I would definitely add ice to your routine. I was having calf probs and a couple of days where I put an icepack on it (once a big 'ol bag of frozen peas!) for 20 min. at a time, 2-3 times a day. Worked wonders. But definitely keep up with the stretching, too, just don't go overboard and overwork that muscle.

Definitely plan on doing this under the cover of darkness one morning :rotfl:...and am being careful to not form any kind of attachment to my tutu because if it starts to drive me crazy at the race, it's coming off immediately and being left behind and I'll just have to finish in my running tights and shirt...my normal running outfit anyway!

By my figuring, I booked AP rate at Pop and am renting a car for less than the host hotel rate.

We did our booking online with a Disney agent and ended up at Port Orleans Riverside WITH FREE DINING and 2 day passes for less than the discounted race rate!!! sometimes the deal isn't that great of a deal if you shop around.

The disney agent told us as long as it's a participating hotel, we can use the race transportation - especially since we are in it! :rotfl:

Thank you! I didn't make it, I ordered it from a seller on Etsy.com.

Its fab! Would you mind sharing which etsy shop it was? I think that tutu would also be perfect for the wine & dine half that I am hoping to do in October. You can PM me if you don't want to post.
Thanks!

Sure! the seller is "MTcoffinz" and she makes tons of great tutu's! It took me WEEKS to decide which one to get :) Don't wait too long though because most of them are "made to order" and it took a full 2 weeks for mine to be made from the date I ordered it...however, when it did ship, I had it very quickly! Overall I was very pleased with the transaction...I asked several questions before I made a decision and they answered them all very quickly. Happy tutu hunting!! :dance3:

Well the weather was dead on today...down to the hour that the snow was supposed to start. The roads are a slushy mess right now; so no running for me. I skipped my run yesterday and thought maybe I could make it up today; looks like it's more rest for the knee instead.

If my office is closed tomorrow I'm going to make up my 'costume'. A little bit of sewing is involved so I hoping it turns out ok.

About mantras - there is an article in the Feb. issue of Runner's World about this. Worth looking up if the article is on their website.

Also, it talked about the importance of a positive outlook. A woman who is an elite runner was fully prepped and trained to do very well in the 2009 Chicago Marathon. However, she said that she just didn't believe in herself and finished 17th, which is not so bad to us, but she was a full 11 minutes slower than she expected to be. She's convinced it's because she gave in and listened to her self-doubt.

Tried my own mantra today - "Keep your pace. Stay strong." Over and over. It worked pretty well!

Be positive, Princesses!:thumbsup2

Garmin wearers, are you going to wear your Garmin for the race? I like looking at my splits, and it does help pace me.

I always wear my garmin, during training and every race. It has now become my "binky". I think I look at it for reassurance during a race to know that I am on my pace. My last half my garmin stopped working on the way to the race. My daughter gave me hers while I walked the race. She found someone with her pace and ran the race with that very nice lady. It must have worked for me because I set my PR that race.

I just wanted to drop in and tell you all what an inspiration you are and wish you luck!!! :lovestruc

I just started training for next year, and I spent the day reading this whole thread and it was such a boost for me to know that I'm not alone! I can only run about 2 miles now, and my head wants to go more but my body is revolting. I'm having knee issues and frustrated that I can't train faster, so it's been nice to read all about your journeys (and COSTUMES!!!!) princess: today while icing my knees!

Have a wonderful run and I hope to meet some of you next year if you run again!!
