Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

I have the 16s in pink too. What are the differences between the two models? I noticed if you got the purple/gray 16s they were tigher along the sides than the pink/white ones, so I've been hesitant to go looking at the 17s.

I just bought 2 pairs of the 16's a few weeks ago in pink! I had a blue pair awhile back and wore those thru quickly so I knew better to pick up 2 this time. Great shoes!

Kensgirl: Yeah, they look bulky, but I agree, the information can't be beat. The issue with Amazon is they only ship the Garmins to the US. Can't have them shipped to Canada. The price can't be beat otherwise though!

Saylan ~ By "stitching" do you mean lacing? I *think* it is angled - I don't know...I tried on a pair but couldn't get them off quickly enough. They felt like bricks on my feet. Hard on the bottom and gross all around. LOL.

I don't know if the techniques would work for non-standard locale lacing, but if you go to runnersworld.com and search under "videos" there is a series on lacing for different issues. Maybe one of those would help. (My work computer won't pull up videos, so I can't link it right now.)

I do know that after the debacle that was my adventure with the 2160s, I just decided that I was NOT going to care what the shoe looked like or what color it was. I was going SOLELY by how it felt on my feet. (Thankfully Brooks Adrenalines aren't hideous though. Ha!)

Yeah I meant lacing :headache: (I need to work on my runner's lingo!).

The 16s felt ok (better than the New Balance ones I had) but I have had the problem with all my shoes on the right foot, it slides sideways... They also feel, not 'terrible', but weird in the support. I'll head over to the site and see what techniques there are. I tried the bunny ears one and it was ok but seems to have bruised the top of my foot. Not eager to repeat that!

You have Brooks now?

It's ok. I thought maybe they called it stitching in Canada. :goodvibes

And yep! I went to my LRS after the Half and we went through a BUNCH of different shoes. First we moved me up to 9.5s, which helps in the toe box. But still nowhere in town has anymore 2150s. The 2160 in 9/5 not only hit that tendon where the shoe ties but also pinched my skin just below. Quickly off my feet. The Kayno's I already explained...felt like boards on my feet. No give at all. Nikes...EW! It felt like a bubble BEHIND the ball of my foot. Not cool. I tried some Saucony Guide 3s, and they were ok and I could have dealt with them. And then he brought out a Brooks Adrenaline 11 pair...that was wide. He knew it would be too wide but it would give me a clue. Well, even wide I knew we'd found a winner. I ended up going to a different LRS because they STILL haven't called me in spite of assuring me that they would have some in last week at the store I've always loved. And they're wonderful! I <3 them!!

I'll go with that's what it's called in Canada! If it's not true now, it will be. I'll make it so. :rotfl:

Yeah, I went through a similar trial method to get to the Kayanos and even came back when they didn't feel 'just right' and I've gone to different stores and apparently this is 'as good as [I'm] going to find'. :confused3 It's really frustrating. They're an ok shoe, but I feel like there should be much more arch support and the whole bubble thing you described with the nikes is what it's like on early part of my heel (not in the arch where I expect it to be). Explaining things like that to a store associate is a nightmare.

I also have the Gel-Kinseis (or whatever last year's model was called) which I could return but I'm thinking I'll keep for walking the parks in. They have the arch support I expected from a pronator's shoe (even though they're not for only pronators).

The 17s do have the asymetrical lacing, and there's the DS trainers that do too it seems. I'll have to head out to a LRS (there's two and they both have less than ideal staffing) and try them on to see if a switch is necessary. :sad2: I'll pick them up state-side if so cause the 16s were 230 plus tax here and around 100-140 in the US. :guilty:

Oh, no! Whjat have i done?? Forget the training -- i only have 5 weeks to figure out what to wear!!!

So, um, what is everyone wearing? I am so not the princess type, and live in an all male household, so i need soem serious help!

saysay: Glad you got soem good news and the go ahead for the race. That happened to me a few years ago, and i remember tearing up in the doctor's office, i was so happy and relieved.

Thanks for the wlecomes! I did an hour on the treadmill today and am starting to think i bit off more than I bargained for, but i know it will be fine. Keep up all the good work and positive attitudes! It really is mind over matter, and beating the mental game is practically the same as crossing the finish line!

Same here! 3 boys don't make for a princess friendly household! Lol. I'm going for black tights, black & pink tutu & tiara built into my visor!

Garmin wearers, are you going to wear your Garmin for the race? I like looking at my splits, and it does help pace me.

Absolutely!! It's the best! & I'm trying run/ wlak intervals for the 1st time in a race. The Garmin is great for that.

Me, too! Even our cat and mouse are boys! I'm going more with a Tinkerbell kind of thing, although I'm just wearing a black tech tee - I'm def. not a pink person and not very princessy, but I AM looking forward to my Princess lunch after the race! Thinking of getting my niece to whip up a skirt with whatever material strikes me and seeing what kind of pockets she can put into it.

OK, I had to share this story...my friend & I were walking through Epcot last year after the Princess with our medals on. We were taking a break sitting next to a statue and these two little girls -maybe 5 & 6- with tiaras on sat down next to us getting ready to have their picture taken. I said, "I'll move so you can get your picture but I'm a Princess too cuz I ran the race today." and I winked at her. The younger one looked at me and said "MY mommy WON the race" to which I said "oh yes, sweetie, we are all winners" and looked up to the two women with the girls to say congratulations. One pointed to the other and said "no, she really did win!" :worship: OK, my friend and I acted like we'd met the President! We did stop short of pictures and autographs but asked her a million questions like smitten school girls! She was so sweet and explained that she'd expected to be 3rd or 4th knowing the field but wasn't sure and that it was fun. Although she looked 16, I think she was in her early 30's and her finish time was 1:23...yes, almost exactly 1/2 of mine! :rotfl: OK, just have to tell you she wasn't wearing her medal but she congratulated us and was so humble. I guess you had to be there but it was one of those funny moments you never forget.

Sorry to ramble but I do want to agree that you should definitely wear your medal to the parks. We wore ours Sunday and Monday AND on the plane home!! ;)

Just keep running....

~~~Jennifer~~~
Jennifer, this story made me laugh out loud!! :laughing:
Bummer, princesses! Tried to do the iron-on rhinestone wings tonight, and it was a no go. Shirt needs to be at least 50% cotton for that to work, and of course a running tee isn't cotton at all. Hmmm...my co-teacher is an artist. Thinking of seeing what she can do with fabric paint! Am determined to have wings without having to WEAR wings!!!
Bummer! I did the iron-on rhinestone transfer on a Nike Dri-fit running shirt and it worked perfectly!!! I wonder if there are different types of adhesives used on certain tranfsers that work better than others? Your wings sounded like such a cute idea too :sad1:
I did iron on rhinestones on mine and DD's tech tops and they ironed on just fine, actually really cute :lovestruc
Hi all! A question for Princess Half/Disney race veterans:
Do we get to stay in Epcot after the race is done?
If so, what about bag check? Do you have to leave Epcot to go back to bag check or will they have the bags near Spaceship Earth so we don't have to hike/bus back to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex?
Trying to plan ahead for my first time as a princess. :)
Race ends outside of Epcot. You have to have a ticket to get into the park. Bag check is arranged so that you drop your stuff before the race and go back by after the race.
I do know for sure, that the pink 16's lace up is weird from the big toe on towards the middle.
The turquoise 17's lace up is the same but doesn't look as crooked as the pink. I think they are both great and feel the same. I notice slight differences in the amount of netting and stretchy stuff on the sides. I feel more gel in the toe area of the turquoise Kayano 17 by Asics.
The runner salesman said that these shoes have high arches. But they weren't high enough for me and I still had to put in my Dr. recommended arch supports.
I would like to try the Brooks shoes someday.
I ran 4.5 miles today. First mile was done in 10:57 minutes and I went downhill from there. All the way to 15 minutes for the last mile. I don't feel good today, so maybe tomorrow.
Mine worked perfectly on the slippery kind of tech tee...less than 50% cotton. Try it...
I was kind of wondering that. I hear people say that people just fall into a rhythm with other single runners, but that concerns me a little bit. While not typically shy, I am certainly not assertive in these type of situations(uh hello, read the thread for 5 months before I finally posted) I too want lots of pics.
Hmmm... thanks for all the input on the iron-ons - perhaps I need a new iron-on instead of a new shirt! Will try to swing by Michael's tomorrow to see what they have.
LOL, it's good to see we are all on the same page about the Garmins. I LOVE my Garmin 305 and I wear it for ALL my outdoor runs.
Absolutely! Heck, after my first race there, I wore my Donald medal for the rest of the week. :banana:
Love this.
Absolutely.....I can't run a race without it now ;)
I have worn it with my races too. I have to remember to hit "start" when I cross the start line though.:rolleyes1
YES!! I LOVE MY GARMIN!!! It will be on all the time!
:)
Absolutely! I want to be able to make sure I'm maintaining the pace that I want and it will be cool to download the run and save it online when I get home!
Yes, it's my pacing partner. It will be fun to look back at the run at a later date too.
Oh and you bet I am wearing my garmin during the race. Like to see my splits at each mile and keep an eye on pace to see when I am dragging!
Yup, I have said "Oh crap" more then once when looking at my pace. I wish I would have bought my Garmin when I first started running. Oh course, they were much more expensive 3.5 years ago too.
Definitely wearing mine -- for pacing and time.
;)
It IS the best. It will be great for intervals.
Playing catch up on reading this thread, and wanted to chime in on the single runner/photo issue. I have run every Disney race "solo" (sadly, i actually think of those 3 or 6 hours as "quiet, me time." hey gotta take it where you can find it, right?). I haven't doen the princess, but have done both marathon weekend races and the DL 1/2 3 times, and have never had a problem with having someone to snap a quick picture of me at mile markers or landmarks or whatever. Often you will find yourself leap frogging with the same handful of people and a certain rapport builds up. Realistically, whe you are stopping for a picture, someone else will be as well, and you ca ask their "photographer" to take a quick one of you. It's Disney and everyone (at least in the back of the pack where I'll be) is there to have a good time, not to break any land speed records. Its a fun few hours, and a real camraderie (oh, that is not spelled right, is it?) develops. in fact, some lasting friendships can develop.
So, yes, people will help you out with the pictures if it is someplace without a cast member to do it, and you shouldn;t feel shy or like you are breaching some kind of etiquette code if you ask.
My Asics Gel 2150's came today . . . they were too small the first time . . . LOVE THEM so far. :banana: Thank you to everyone who recommended them to me.
I love them as well. I stocked up on a couple of pairs because I love them so much. And they were on sale :)
Garmin wearers, are you going to wear your Garmin for the race? I like looking at my splits, and it does help pace me.
Yes! It's amazing how dependent I have become on it. I went for a run on a really overcast day so it wouldn't pick up the GPS signal. I felt so lost :rotfl:
Question for anyone doing the Galloway method: what are your ratios?
I have been at 2/2 and will stay there I think. I feel like I get enough rest that I could do that interval the entire way.
Also, do most people wear their medals at the parks after the run?
I am planning on wearing it as long as I can. We are staying until Wednesday and am thinking I might wear it that long. I would love to, but I am thinking that may be a bit overkill?
Great story! Of course, now i feel a little guilty for all the times i told some well-meaning but clueless sap that I had indeed won.
Oh, and i should mention that you will also encounter at least one person who thinks that your bling is a lanyard for pin trading and want to know where he or she can buy one. So i guess it balances out, kharma wise....
And yes, a good friend of mine is one of the elite male runners -- one of those top 20 types who gets to provide ther own special water bottles for the stops at the New york City marathon...and he never wears his medals around the park either. Go figure. But to his credit, he doesn't mock those of us who live in the medal for the following week, either.
