Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

Hi all...went to see the sports doc this morning and the good news is its JUST plantar faciitis which he thinks being very conservative I can still train and do the race. I have my night splint I get to wear when I sleep to relax that calf....lucky for me I have it from last year when the other foot was PF plagued! I also need to ice and stretch and I got a referral to a physical therapist to help me get some good stretches for my situation. He told me I need to scale back a tad on the running...meaning I need to walk more, so I guess I will be going to a 1/1 run walk interval from a 2/1...doc said that sounded good. He also told me sounded like I know how to listen to my body and if the feet were bothering me to just walk or stop and go find and eliptical or bike to get my cardio in...but obviously I needed to run to prepare.

I am so excited I can still train and do the race, I just need to be careful and remember my only goal is to cross the finish. I was going to go up to 13 miles in my training, but now think to not push it will only go to 11. I have done 10.5.

PLEASE STRETCH THOSE CALVES....I was having tight ones and my shin splint is now gone and in my foot.

Anyhoo, thanks for the support and encouragement. Tried on my sparkle last night...it looked GREAT!

That is great news Julie! I hope things feel better soon and I am sure even with new intervals you will still do great at the race!

Received my tiara ponytail holder today that I ordered last week...it's even cuter than I expected! Should have the last piece to my race day outfit by the end of this week so I can get it all together finally! I also received Magical Express booklet on Friday...that is my favorite thing to see in the mail!!!!! I can't believe it's so close :cheer2:

Oh, I forgot to mention, I cried at the doctor's office when I got the green light to continue. I was so worried. I never thought this would become as emotional as it its, but I have worked hard to get here...injured and all. :-)

Whoo Hoo on it JUST being PF and being able to continue your training and be do the run!!

However, I am confused... your calves can cause PF problems? or were you having PF and shin problems.

I did it!!!!

Planned on a 12.5 mile track run today. It went better than planned and I went all the way to 13.1!

I downloaded a Disney podcast to my ipod for the run. It was much more inspiring to listen to disney chatter instead of songs I've heard dozens of times before.

On my last long track run, all I could do was think about how many laps done and how many to go. It was completely mentally consuming trying to remember it all. This time, I counted out sport beans - 1 for every 2 laps. When the beans were gone, I was done.

I also started walking a minute every mile. Previously, I was burning out by the end of the run. It really seemed to help, and I didn't have to do any additional walking.

My time still stunk - 2:57, but my time is always at least a minute/mile slow when I run at the track. Still can't figure it out, but it will make me stronger!

I feel GREAT!!!!:cloud9:

Congrats on the 12.5! I read somewhere along this journey that laps, like on a track, increase your time because your body compensates for the turns or something like that.

My Asics Gel 2150's came today . . . they were too small the first time . . . LOVE THEM so far. Thank you to everyone who recommended them to me.

Oh, no! Whjat have i done?? Forget the training -- i only have 5 weeks to figure out what to wear!!!

So, um, what is everyone wearing? I am so not the princess type, and live in an all male household, so i need soem serious help!

saysay: Glad you got soem good news and the go ahead for the race. That happened to me a few years ago, and i remember tearing up in the doctor's office, i was so happy and relieved.

Thanks for the wlecomes! I did an hour on the treadmill today and am starting to think i bit off more than I bargained for, but i know it will be fine. Keep up all the good work and positive attitudes! It really is mind over matter, and beating the mental game is practically the same as crossing the finish line!

You will do fine because you already know the secret not to mention have the experience!

I am not the princess type either and my husband said he didn't think I could pull off the tutu. I still almost bought one but then worried it would get on my nerves during the run. Instead I bought my first running skirt. It came today and I think it is so cute. I bought a red plaid one from the folks at runningskirt and it was on sale for $20!!! So now I am putting together a mickey/minnie princess outfit in my head. I have my black zensah's to wear, red plaid skirt & black tiara bondi band. I think I will see about finding a black shirt with mickey ears to match. Maybe....

Garmin wearers, are you going to wear your Garmin for the race? I like looking at my splits, and it does help pace me.

However, I am confused... your calves can cause PF problems? or were you having PF and shin problems.

It CAN...got this off the net..."The most common cause of plantar fasciitis is very tight calf muscles which leads to prolonged and / or high velocity pronation of the foot. This in turn produces repetitive over-stretching of the plantar fascia leading to possible inflammation and thickening of the tendon. As the fascia thickens it looses flexibility and strength."

Its all connected, your foot, achilles tendon, calf....stretching is so important!

Question for anyone doing the Galloway method: what are your ratios? So far I've been doing 3/2, but I'm thinking of trying a 1/1 tomorrow. I didn't want to do it at first because it seems like an awful lot of switching, but there are so many times (after running for over an hour) that I have to increase my walk time, or decrease my run time here and there. Thoughts?

I read on someone's blog that they attended an afterparty at Hollywood Studios the afternoon of the 1/2 marathon. But I didn't see anything on the web site about it.
Was this just something they did in the past?
Also, do most people wear their medals at the parks after the run?

Stock up on them. They don't make that model anymore, and personally I don't like the changes they made to the 2160s.

Absolutely! Heck, after my first race there, I wore my Donald medal for the rest of the week. You've accomplished something, and want to make sure the entire freaking world knows it! Strangers will congratulate you, fellow medal wearers will smile commiseratingly with you as you wince in pain walking down steps, and cast members will give you the chance to "go around again" on certain rides if you are too sore to stand up fast enough to get off (I loooooove the Tomorrowland transit Authority/People mover for this)!

An added bonus to wearing your medal -- at least one person will think you "won." :rotfl2:And anyone who has seen me ands my Pooh-shaped physique would know how laughable that is. Practice looking them in the eye with a straight face and saying "Yes, yes I did" when they ask if you won. Because you did. Just maybe not the way they think. :worship:

I run 2 walk 2; sometimes if I'm really tired I'll cut the run short or do a double walk. In races I run to the mile marker then walk 2.

That is AWESOME!!! Love it!

Absolutely! I want to be able to make sure I'm maintaining the pace that I want and it will be cool to download the run and save it online when I get home!
