Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

Absolutely! I want to be able to make sure I'm maintaining the pace that I want and it will be cool to download the run and save it online when I get home!

That's the reason I'll be wearing mine. I love to see the little dotted line of my run. It makes me feel as accomplished as the medal.

Hi Princesses!!!

Has anyone on here "been counted" as a Neurotic Disney Person? If you have (and you'll know what I'm talking about) please DM me.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, take a look at this old trip report here. It's by NDM#1 (Neurotic Disney Mom #1).

And just so you know, I'm NDA#1 (Neurotic Disney Auntie).

An added bonus to wearing your medal -- at least one person will think you "won." :rotfl2:And anyone who has seen me ands my Pooh-shaped physique would know how laughable that is. Practice looking them in the eye with a straight face and saying "Yes, yes I did" when they ask if you won. Because you did. Just maybe not the way they think. :worship:

OK, I had to share this story...my friend & I were walking through Epcot last year after the Princess with our medals on. We were taking a break sitting next to a statue and these two little girls -maybe 5 & 6- with tiaras on sat down next to us getting ready to have their picture taken. I said, "I'll move so you can get your picture but I'm a Princess too cuz I ran the race today." and I winked at her. The younger one looked at me and said "MY mommy WON the race" to which I said "oh yes, sweetie, we are all winners" and looked up to the two women with the girls to say congratulations. One pointed to the other and said "no, she really did win!" :worship: OK, my friend and I acted like we'd met the President! We did stop short of pictures and autographs but asked her a million questions like smitten school girls! She was so sweet and explained that she'd expected to be 3rd or 4th knowing the field but wasn't sure and that it was fun. Although she looked 16, I think she was in her early 30's and her finish time was 1:23...yes, almost exactly 1/2 of mine! :rotfl: OK, just have to tell you she wasn't wearing her medal but she congratulated us and was so humble. I guess you had to be there but it was one of those funny moments you never forget.

Sorry to ramble but I do want to agree that you should definitely wear your medal to the parks. We wore ours Sunday and Monday AND on the plane home!! ;)

Just keep running....

Question for anyone doing the Galloway method: what are your ratios? So far I've been doing 3/2, but I'm thinking of trying a 1/1 tomorrow. I didn't want to do it at first because it seems like an awful lot of switching, but there are so many times (after running for over an hour) that I have to increase my walk time, or decrease my run time here and there. Thoughts?

I went by the suggested chart and did a 2/1 based on my pace. Liked it and was thinking of moving up to 3 minute runs as I was getting faster and all seemed ok, but with my foot issue, doc told me to cut back on running. Did 1/1 this morning and you know what, didn't affect my pace! Granted I am at the slower side, but also kind of taking it "easy" cuz of my foot.

Give the 2/1 a try. The thing with the switching is you just get in a groove, I make a point to take a deep breath when changing over to get that oxygen in my lungs.

Good luck!

I read on someone's blog that they attended an afterparty at Hollywood Studios the afternoon of the 1/2 marathon. But I didn't see anything on the web site about it.
Was this just something they did in the past?
Also, do most people wear their medals at the parks after the run?

I don't think they do that anymore.... BOO HOO, would be a blast!

You better believe I am wearing my medal on Sunday and to the airport on Monday morning!

Unfortunately I also heard they are not doing it.....I would have loved a party :sad1:

My daughter and I will be wearing our two medals each that day and maybe the next day at AK. Do they let you wear that on the plane? It might be considered a weapon

Got my maintenance run in....nice light rain, upper 30's. I think its awesome weather for a short run! I took it easy and had to hold back...not that I am superfast LOL. Switched to 1 min run/ 1min walk interval and you know what, pace was the same! On the slower end, but I did try to take it easy on my foot. Amazing, cut my running in 1/2 and the same!

Anyhoo, feels good, got to get some more tape though as I need to tape it up every run for extra support....like a professional :cool1:

Hopefully the next round of cold weather won't affect too many of you, looks like just rain for us and normal winter temps...thank goodness.

Oh and you bet I am wearing my garmin during the race. Like to see my splits at each mile and keep an eye on pace to see when I am dragging! I am going to be a pack mule with all my stuff!

Well, I guess I won't be at all princessy after all. After much research I ordered a skirt from raceready.com since it seemed to have all of the features I wanted (drawstring waist and those great pockets)...and I trusted that the compression shorts would be better than the cheap reebok skirt I already have. They are, but they still ride up. So I guess this princess is just a shorts girl and that's that. Oh well, at least I tried to be girly!

That test run was on the TM today - ugh. More snow for us and a delayed opening for DS's school, so I took the morning off and got my run in and got some other stuff done around the house. I still have to say how in awe I am at you ladies who put in high miles on the TM!

I had no problem wearing my Donald medal on the flight home. I did take it off to go through the scanner, but there was no problem with it.

Congratulations on winning the Donald!!!! I was wishing that I could have tried that race too.

That's nice to know about the airport, because I would like to wear my medal home, if I win one.

Just bought Asics Gel - Kayano 17 turquoise shoes two weeks ago. Love them. So squishy with all of that gel. The sides have extra stretchy material which I love because my feet like to spread out a little when I step down. I bought the same pair in pink too, but are Kayano's 16. Can't decide which pair to wear to the race!

Ran 11 on the 16th and ran 5 on the 23rd. Planning on 12 or 13 on the 30th.

I have noticed that my calves are getting tighter and my plantar tendon was getting tighter. I have been stretching like crazy. I am now just starting to loosen up a bit.

Thanks to you all, Good thing you wrote about it in this thread!! I might not have even noticed that slight change, which would have maybe torn my plantar tendon.

YES!! I LOVE MY GARMIN!!! It will be on all the time!

What kind do you have? I really want to pick one up soon. I train on the treadmill and having my 'pace' as well as the intervals just seems like a must for me, but they're so pricey!

I have the 16s in pink too. What are the differences between the two models? I noticed if you got the purple/gray 16s they were tigher along the sides than the pink/white ones, so I've been hesitant to go looking at the 17s.

Saylan ~ I can't speak to the difference between the 16s and 17s, but one thing to be aware of is that now that 17s are out, stores will be running out of 16s since they'll be able to get only what's in warehouses. So if you really like them, I'd try to stock up on 16s. But be prepared that you'll have to either go with the 17s or find other shoes when all the 16s are gone/worn out.

Yeah... I need to find out if the 17s have the side stitching that the 16s do first. If they do then I'll try the 17s cause honestly, I'm starting to loathe my 16s. One foot is fine, but the other is sliding inside and it feels like it's tilting my ankle. The stitching is a HUGE issue though so I need it to be on the side if it can be. If need be, I'll just have to look up ways to tie the shoe to make it less slippery inside (though I don't know if tying can 100% fix the slipping issue).

I have the Garmin Forerunner 305 with foot pod. I actually got it off amazon brand new for $99 on one of the deal of the day - check there though because I have seen them for $129. It is really awesome because when you get home, you can download your run and really see where you are slowing down or going to fast. It is a wonderful wonderful tool.... :worship:

Not the cutest out there, a bit bulky, but after wearing it a few times you don't notice it at all.....

I did it!!!!

Planned on a 12.5 mile track run today. It went better than planned and I went all the way to 13.1!

On my last long track run, all I could do was think about how many laps done and how many to go. It was completely mentally consuming trying to remember it all. This time, I counted out sport beans - 1 for every 2 laps. When the beans were gone, I was done.

I feel GREAT!!!!:cloud9:

Great job!!!! Congrats -- you have completed a half! C-E-L-E-B-R-A-T-E!!!!

Love the bean trick; have to remember that.

So glad you felt great post-run!!!

Did anyone ever find out where you can sign people up to get update msgs/txts of our progress on the day of?
.

I emailed runDisney and got a response email that sign up for this will be available at the Expo. Drat; wish it was possible to sign-up online--and now!

Hi all...went to see the sports doc this morning and the good news is its JUST plantar faciitis which he thinks being very conservative I can still train and do the race.

That is AWESOME news!! Yay!!!!

Saylan ~ By "stitching" do you mean lacing? I *think* it is angled - I don't know...I tried on a pair but couldn't get them off quickly enough. They felt like bricks on my feet. Hard on the bottom and gross all around. LOL.

I don't know if the techniques would work for non-standard locale lacing, but if you go to runnersworld.com and search under "videos" there is a series on lacing for different issues. Maybe one of those would help. (My work computer won't pull up videos, so I can't link it right now.)

I do know that after the debacle that was my adventure with the 2160s, I just decided that I was NOT going to care what the shoe looked like or what color it was. I was going SOLELY by how it felt on my feet. (Thankfully Brooks Adrenalines aren't hideous though. Ha!)
