On a very cool note...I ran a 5K Saturday...Santa Scramble and set a very high goal and I did it. Ran it in 24:10 :cheer2::cheer2:

Wow, that is fast! Congratulations!

You are amazing! Living in Boston, I seriously cannot ever imagine doing the marathon here...such a huge life accomplishment...congrats on qualifying!!!

Have you run the Princess before? I also live in Boston (well close enough), so am used to hills, and was wondering how the overpasses on the course compare to the hills around Mass?

tomorrow is the big turkey day! what is everyone doing? anyone cooking?

I am running a 5k in the morning and then will be cooking at my parents house. I just moved back here in April after living in Colorado, so this is the first Thanksgiving I will spend with my family in about 10 years. I am looking forward to it!

Nope, no cooking for me this year. I'll be on a plane most of the day flying from Houston to Springfield, MA. I'm spending the weekend judging a dog agility trial, so my Thanksgiving won't involve turkey or football. :(

No cooking for me unless you count the rolls I'm going to pop in the oven at my Dad's for Thanksgiving lunch :)...then Thanksgiving dinner at my BF's family's house...thankfully we're participating in a 5 miler tomorrow morning so I don't feel too bad about double Thanksgivings!!

I have run the Princess, both times. It is flat...especially the LOOONG road back to Epcot from MK.The ramps weren't bad at all hill wise; my problem with them was that they are slanted (or whatever you would call it, maybe banked) so it isn't even footing. The worst hill I think was a turn up a ramp coming into Epcot area (maybe mile 11ish??) on an overpass - it isn't the only one, it just seemed a tiny bit steeper. Someone else probably has better detail. However, I can definitely say, compared to the hills in Boston and on the North Shore, the course is very flat!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Turkey DAy all! I am starting the day with a 10k and then after cleaning up will go to my sister's for early dinner....she just lives 10 miles from me so thankful I don't have to travel this year! Just my sister and her family and us...small but relaxing!

Now that I look at my schedule, it is running 4 times a week. But since it says strengthen twice a week, I was going to the gym for two hours lifting weights and one day a week cross train, I was riding my bike or playing the wii or tennis. That Hal Higdon's gave me Friday off. But three days off a week would be better.

I was so tired on Sunday's, after my long run, that I couldn't clean or cook.

Maybe, I am just too old to keep up with you all. Lol I did notice that most of you are around 30 years young. I am 45.

Wait a minute here!!! I started my journey when I was 61!! Just set my PR for a half last month, 3 hours 13 minutes. (Obviously, I walk most of the way). I have been doing this for two years. This past year, I did 5 Half Marathons and I am still old and overweight, but 35 pounds lighter than when I started. So 45 is way too young to talk about being oldprincess:

You are AWESOME.

A woman in my running club did the OBX half 2 weeks ago with a bunch of us. She won her age group... the 80-99 age group. Her time was 3:45, and she is 84. Such an inspiration.

Also wanted to add.. the winner of the female age group 60-64 in that race? 1:49, at age 60.

Wow, 84 and 3:45, impressive. 60 and 1:49, that's amazing.:)

Turkey Trots runners, how's your weather looking? I am looking at 16º and 16 mph winds. When I left work tonight the wind was terrible, and there were pellets of frozen rain mixed with snow. We are under a winter weather advisory, and I have an hour drive to the race. I do have yaktrax for my shoes, and good running gear, but wind and freezing rain makes for a very hard run. I REALLY want to run this race. I will see how it looks in the morning. I better go dig out my yaktrax and get my running clothes figured out. I don't want to be a weinie and not run.....

I hope your forecast is better then mine is.

WOW!!! I am inspired by you!!:worship::worship::worship:

All dressed and ready to head out fo my Turkey Trot (5K) this morning. I'll be heading to a BIL for Thanksgiving after the race- I hope the rain stay light or non-existant. It was pouring earlier this morning and I am soooo over running in the rain!

Nope no 30 year old here. I turn 45 during princess weekend. I walk all my races and started doing this about 3 years ago...I think...see I am old memory is fading :)

I am really new to any of this and I plan to do the Royal 5k, I am 57. I am a grandmother with 4 grandkids, have injured my left foot in the process of getting ready for the 5k. I am training using the Couch to 5k, with more fast walking than actually running. I have looked at the Chi Walking and that seems to have some possibility too.

Yesterday, I found that there is a FleetFoot store nearby and I am thinking I will go there this weekend and have them check out my shoes and see if they think I need to be refitted. I am on my third pair now and these do seem the best, I wore them all day yesterday working and out in the stores to get them broken in.

The store also has a training program for 5k and 10k, they do walking and running. Another class they have is called Core 101, they do a light run/walk and follow up with a yoga session. Sounds, interesting and I might join it.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving and all that are running enjoy the Day!

Cindy

Awesome! My mom is traveling with me to the Princess 1/2 as my cheering squad, and she has decided to get prepared for the trip by taking walks. She's up to 2 miles fast walking already. She is now considering doing the 5K. It would be her first and she is 65+

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck to everyone running their turkey dinners off this morning. My family is about to head out to our 5K and the weather is 29 degrees with a 20 wind chill. Brrrr!

You all are so inspiring! Thanks for your sharing.

well I did it, finished the 10k today AND beat my goal....I did it in 1:12:40. I was SO happy. Now on to shower and get ready for thanksgiving goodies.

Happy Turkey Day!

I ran my 5 mile Turkey Trot this morning. :woohoo:
It was cold, 12º and -1 with the windchill, but it didn't seem that cold. I am glad I wore my Yaktrax, there were quite a few icy spots. It was a fun run, my time was ok, 52:40, pretty much my pace average with a little longer runs.

I haven't posted in a while as I decided not to do the 1/2 this year but to stick with the Royal Family 5K. I ran/walked my first race (1 mile turkey trot) yesterday, but we did it as a family so the time really wasn't accurate for dh or I. It was still a good experience though to get a feel for how a race works and the congestion at the start. If I can figure out how to work out the logistics I'd like to run in the Jingle Bell Run (2 miles) next weekend, but my boys might be walking in the parade immediately after that and dh is a retail manager so don't think it's going to happen.

well...i went to the ortho surgeon on wednesday and he said that i can't run anymore :sad1: long story short i was born with congenital hip dysplasia and have had 4 surgeries. this is the first time in my life that i have been able to run, and now it's getting taken away from me. pretty much my hip structure cannot support the running, and i don't need to make things worse. i told him that i had already signed up for the turkey trot (yesterday) and could i at least walk it, he hesitantly said i could. i got a cortisone injection and that was that. i was trying so hard not to cry infront of him and the cute resident that was with him. so as far as the princess goes...i don't know what to do...i hadn't registered yet, but the thought of not going when i was SO looking forward to it, just breaks my heart! i'm not sure that i could walk it and not get picked up by the slow bus. any walkers out there able to finish? and how fast are you walking? i thought about at least doing the royal family 5k, and that way at least we're still able to go and accomplish something. ugh! just so frustrating though :sad2: thanks for all our your encouragement and good thoughts, i'm in definite need of some now :worried:
