thanks rupert b and meg. i know that my doc is right and valid, it was just tough news to swallow. i finally can do something like run, and then it's taken away. i would love to still walk it, but i know i definitely need clearance that the distance is ok. if anything i would still love to at least do the royal family 5k that weekend, since i know i'm able to do that. we will see! thank you guys for all of your support and encouragement. it is so nice to have people like you guys, looking out for me and keeping my spirits up! thanks a ton :hug:

jess princess:

Seems like some good runs got in over the weekend. I did 7 and it seemed sooo long...can totally relate to those that struggled. I always have trouble through the first 2, no matter how far I'm going. My new strategy is to map an exact out and back route so I know that once I get to that halfway point, I just have to get home. Yes, a little wacky but if I do any kind of "loop" where I could cut my run short and go home via random side streets or a cut-through, I'm likely to take it.

Having a quiet morning (mostly avoiding cleaning my house, actually...)

So, I haven't read through ALL the posts but was wondering a couple things, in continuing the "get to know you" stuff. I also thought it might help to see how others are training and see who might have advice that would help each other:

How far are you training to for the Princess? I think I'm going to try to get to 13 this year. The furthest I've gone in the past is 11.

How many times do you run each week? Do you do distance or time? I'm doing 2 shorter runs (3-5 miles each, building each week) and 1 long run, adding a mile to that each week.

Do you cross-train or just run? I do a women's fitness class two days a week.

How many all-rest days? No such thing as an all rest day in our busy lives but I don't exercise on Friday or Sunday (my long run is Saturday)

Are you doing straight run or run/walk? If run/walk, what is your interval? I've always done run/walk and this time am cutting to 1:15/1. I may try to switch to 1:30/1 over the next couple months.

Most importantly---when are you arriving/leaving the Happiest Place on Earth for the Princess weekend?!?
We will be there from Wednesday the 23rd until Tuesday, March 1st. (Trying to decide whether to hit Universal on Thursday so my sweet 12-year-old can see Wizarding World of Harry Potter.)

I hope you all have a great Monday. So hard to get motivated again after a very long weekend. And...it is COLD up here in New England!!

Be well!

~~~Jennifer~~~
How far are you training to for the Princess? I'm training to a long run on 10 miles which has worked well for me in the past.
How many times do you run each week? 3 times most weeks
Do you do distance or time?2 4 mile runs a week and a long on weekends.
Do you cross-train or just run? I do a Core class on the stability ball twice a week also
How many all-rest days? 2 Wednesdays and sundays usually sometimes it doesnt' work that way with the schedule
Are you doing straight run or run/walk? If run/walk, what is your interval?For a half it's run walk usually run 8 walk 2 minutes, the interval for Princess I'll leave up to DD#2 who is doing it with me.
Most importantly---when are you arriving/leaving the Happiest Place on Earth for the Princess weekend?!?
We will hit Universal Wednesday the 23rd -24th for WWOHP, arriving at ASMovies the evening of the 24th and stay until the Tuesday (the 1st?)
Wow it seems alot of my answers were very similar to the poster above. LOL
Pam (age 55 running with Becky 26)
Thanks for this! This is what I was hoping to hear. Honestly I don't mind hills too much, but the Turkey Trot 5k I ran yesterday was soooo flat, and it definitely made it easier! Where in MA are you?
I'm in Beverly...where are you??
How far are you training to for the Princess? I’m trying to follow the Galloway program to finish in the upright position. It takes you to 14 miles 2 weeks before the race. I think I need to do that just for the confidence in being able to finish.
How many times do you run each week? Do you do distance or time? I'm doing 2 shorter runs on Tues and Thurs. I have to do them on my lunch hour (luckily I have a job where I can take a longer lunch and then work a little earlier/later) so I have a 3.6m loop I can run outside, or just do 3 miles on the treadmill. Getting in a full 3 miles on the treadmill is tough because the gym machines only let us go for 30 min and then a 5 min cool down. The Galloway program just has a 30 min run on Tue and Thurs, so I’m telling myself that it is fine.
Do you cross-train or just run? I do a Hip Hop Hustle class (boy, do I look ridiculous – but it is a light cardio workout and it is fun!:rotfl2:) on Mon and a Total Strength class on Wed.
How many all-rest days? I don’t work out on Fri or Sat due to my husband’s schedule.
Are you doing straight run or run/walk? If run/walk, what is your interval? I’m going to try a straight run… although I’ll probably walk through the water stops.
Most importantly---when are you arriving/leaving the Happiest Place on Earth for the Princess weekend?!? I’m arriving on Friday afternoon 2/25 and leaving on Wed, 3/2. Can’t wait!:banana:
How far are you training to for the Princess? I did a little over 7 so far but hopefully before the race (if I get to go) I'll have done up to 11-13.
How many times do you run each week? Do you do distance or time? I do 2 short runs on Tuesday/Thursday and a long run on Saturday (or Sunday depending on my schedule. I started out doing time for the short runs and switched them to miles a week or two back to make it easier to compare with the long runs.
Do you cross-train or just run? I cross-train every day (doing upper body (chest, back, or arms) or abs) on the days I run and trying to do legs on some of the days in between.
How many all-rest days? I try to avoid doing 'all rest' days. I might throw in a shorter day and just do abs which is about 30 minutes. If I do an all rest day, it's usually unscheduled and based on what my body says it wants that day.
Are you doing straight run or run/walk? If run/walk, what is your interval? I do a run/walk as well. I'm currently doing about 2:00-2:20 (increasing throughout the run) with the remainder of the 3rd minute as a walk (I start with walk just to ensure I'm warmed up a little bit more due to stiff knees).
Most importantly---when are you arriving/leaving the Happiest Place on Earth for the Princess weekend?!?
I may not get to go as my boss has decided to re-consider my time off, but originally we planned for Feb 25 to March 5.
Went for a bone scan last week and I get the official results today. The tech told me how horrible my right leg looks and wondered how much pain i was having in it - funny thing was, I have NO pain at all in the right leg - it's the left one that is killing me. I'm trying to remain really positive about my meeting with the ortho today - he is a runner and claims he can help me get back on my feet with the proper treatment in time for the princess..... so fingers crossed!:cheer2:
How far are you training to for the Princess? I'm only up to 4 miles currently, but my goal is to at least do 13 miles once before the actual princess. Just want to make sure I can really do it.
How many times do you run each week? Do you do distance or time? I apparently started off doing to much - 5 days a week, 3 short runs (about 2.5 miles) and 2 longer runs (3 - 4 miles) on the weekend. Those are longer runs for me still! LOL ***Please remember - total beginner here! and short and overweight! So for me, going from the couch to up and running 4 miles in a months time was too much to soon!!***
Do you cross-train or just run? My new plan is to run 3 days a week (tues/thursday and long run sat or sun) with swimming/spin/weights on mondays & wednesdays.
How many all-rest days? I have decided that fridays are a total rest day for me to spend with the family. I do park in a garage and take the stairs everyday and every chance possible - so I try to get excerise in when I can - but not official excerise.
Are you doing straight run or run/walk? If run/walk, what is your interval? I would LOVE :lovestruc to be able to run the whole thing but I'm far from being able to do that. What has really worked well with me is a brisk walking pace for the first 5 mins then i go into a 1.5 min run/ 1 min walk. My heart rate stays up and I don't always feel like i'm going to die. :laughing:
Most importantly---when are you arriving/leaving the Happiest Place on Earth for the Princess weekend?!? We are arriving Thursday night, Feb. 24th and leaving on Wednesday, March 2nd. (taking advantage of the free dining plan!!):yay:
How far are you training to for the Princess? I'm pretty sure I'm going up to 11...my trainer is only giving me schedules one month at a time, but that's how she trained my BF so I'm assuming that's as far as I'm going in training as well.
How many times do you run each week? Do you do distance or time? I run 3 times a week...all distance based runs.
Do you cross-train or just run? I also participate in a "boot camp" fitness class that my trainer teaches. I would normally go twice a week, but she has recently cut me to once a week until after the Princess since weekend runs are getting longer and I need an extra rest day.
How many all-rest days? Three...Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays
Are you doing straight run or run/walk? If run/walk, what is your interval? I am doing sort of a distance based run/walk interval. I run for a mile, walk for 100 steps, run to the next mile mark, walk 100 steps...etc. For me that averages out to about 10:30 running and 1:00 walking.
Most importantly---when are you arriving/leaving the Happiest Place on Earth for the Princess weekend?!? Arriving Friday night, 2/25 and leaving Wednesday, 3/2.
I bought new running shoes this weekend and am so excited to wear them tomorrow! Hopefully my runs won't hurt as much.
How far are you training to for the Princess? I'm using Jeff Galloway's training plan for the experianced runner (lol) who wants to finish in the upright position; I think that takes me to 14 miles
How many times do you run each week? Do you do distance or time? I run 3 days a week; Tues and Thurs are shorter runs, just over 3 miles, right now that takes me 40 min. but I'm hoping to get faster. Saturday is my other running day, I just run what Jeff tells me!
Do you cross-train or just run? I'm starting to swim again, last winter I swam with a Master's group, I wasn't able to find one here, but my old swim coach is letting me swim with the kids...starting today!
How many all-rest days? Friday and Sunday
Are you doing straight run or run/walk? If run/walk, what is your interval? Run/Walk, right now my interval is 2/2, last year I did races at run 1 mi/walk 2min, we'll see if I get back to that
Most importantly---when are you arriving/leaving the Happiest Place on Earth for the Princess weekend?!? I am arriving Friday night and leaving Sunday night :guilty:
and in other news...I may be completly out of my mind...but I'm considering getting a park hopper and visiting all the parks on Feb. 26...I may be by myself (my friend is running also but it coming with her sister so I might just meet up with them), also this is going to be my last WDW trip for a while, so I figure I'll just hit my favorite rides and move on to the next park...I might talk myself out of this by Feb though
How far are you training to for the Princess? I'm following Galloway and going 14 miles. I think that is best for my mentality.
How many times do you run each week? I try to do 3. Short runs on Tues and Thurs, long on Sat.
Do you cross-train or just run? My goal is to lift weights but I haven't been very consistent with it.
How many all-rest days? 2 - Wed and Sun
Are you doing straight run or run/walk? If run/walk, what is your interval? Right now I run1/walk1 on my short runs and run1/walk2 on my long runs. I did the 10k with the 1/1 and my goal is to do the half 1/1.
Most importantly---when are you arriving/leaving the Happiest Place on Earth for the Princess weekend? Arriving Thurs the 24th and leaving Tues the 1st.
I have a question I hope y'all can help with...we are leaving for WDW on Fri. We are driving all the way through and will crash at a hotel off property Sat night and then check-in to AKV Sun. We will leave WDW on the next Fri and drive straight thru and get home Sat night.
How do I fit in my runs? I'm supposed to go 7 the 1st Sat we are gone. I have gone 7 miles once about a month ago. Do I worry about it while I am on vacation? Do I go to the fitness center and do my short runs before we walk the parks?
Please help and thanks for being there!
How far are you training to for the Princess? Probably 12 miles a few times. I've trained to not only 12 but also to 10 before, and to 11 before, so if I don't get to 12 miles- I won't sweat it. I know I can do it on race day, the crowd and adrenaline help alot (it will all depend on how cold and snowy it is here as to my distance in training that week).
How many times do you run each week? Do you do distance or time? Usually 3-4 times a week. 2-3 weekday runs (one is always a 3-miler and then 4-6 miles for the others) and Sat long run. I run for distance, but when I've been injured, I've found that just running for time works best. Also, running for time works well during the winter when it is frigid out (since your pace slows- but at least you are putting in a set run time to keep your body humming along)
Do you cross-train or just run? I incorporate weights a couple days a week and also take a class at the gym twice a week.
How many all-rest days? One. I take Sunday off. But, Wednesdays are only a very light weight workout.
Are you doing straight run or run/walk? Straight run.
when are you arriving/leaving the Happiest Place on Earth for the Princess weekend?!?
Friday(25th)-Monday (28th)
I would not stress out about getting in runs at set distances while on vacation (that takes the fun and relaxing out of vacation). You are so early out in training that not doing a 7-miler for a week will be just fine.
Now, if you want to keep your running base up and for your own peace of mind, then I would do 2-3 days of light runs during the week. I did this while on 2 different vacations in the past (while training for the Chicago marathon and also for a 1/2 in St Louis). It helped me keep my sanity about my training and also didn't take away from my family time and vacation. I just got up earlier and fit a 30-45 minute run in (while the family was either sleeping or slowly getting ready for the parks). If you ask at the front desk, most of the resorts have a small running path at them. I know Coronado Springs and the both Port Orleans locations do.
Happy running and enjoy WDW at Christmastime!!
How far are you training to for the Princess? My Plan takes me to 14
How many times do you run each week? Do you do distance or time? I go for distance 3 miles short runs 2x a week 1 long run a week, but I have missed long runs lately
Do you cross-train or just run? I try to cross train with elliptical and weights when I can
How many all-rest days? Mondays, Fridays
Are you doing straight run or run/walk? If run/walk, what is your interval?I am doing run/ walk, I go about 1.5 miles then walk 1/4 mile and go from there.
Most importantly---when are you arriving/leaving the Happiest Place on Earth for the Princess weekend?!? Friday - Monday
How far are you training to for the Princess?
following Galloway program up to 14 miles.
How many times do you run each week?
3 times
Do you do distance or time? the long run I do distance. shorter runs do both...just so long as I get the minimum 30 minutes in, though most of the time its 45 min.
Do you cross-train or just run?
Boot Camp Interval training on Saturdays...and I need to get something else in.
How many all-rest days?
I have 3 right now, I want to have 2. I have a bad foot I am getting over, so trying to be very conservative in my training.
Are you doing straight run or run/walk?
Run Walk, 2 min run, 1 min walk.
Most importantly---when are you arriving/leaving the Happiest Place on Earth?
Don't have tickets yet, plan is arrive friday leave monday.
How far are you training to for the Princess? Planning on running 11.2 a few times.
How many times do you run each week? Do you do distance or time? I try really hard to get 2 weekday runs in every week and do my long run usually on Sunday. My weekday runs are timed (because I'm running laps around my apartment complex usually) and my long runs are distance. I've started mapping them out on runningahead.com (LOVE that site!)
Do you cross-train or just run? If I had time to cross train, I would. But alas....
How many all-rest days? I always rest the day after my long run, but I'm on my feet for around 12 hours a day, so that's not always restful...
Are you doing straight run or run/walk? I started doing a run/walk interval, but I've decided that I prefer straight running. I really can get my groove on and just keep truckin!
Most importantly---when are you arriving/leaving the Happiest Place on Earth for the Princess weekend?!? I'm getting there on Friday and leaving Monday morning.
Would like to add to this survey:
What park are you going to celebrate in after the race? I was planning on going to Epcot Sunday after the princess and doing Harry Potter on Saturday, but tickets are like $84 for each one:scared1:!!! Since funds are limited right now, I have to pick one. I'm definitely going to go on Sunday after the race because I want to wear my medal!!!! I'm kind of thinking Harry Potter (blasphemy, I know...) just because it's somewhere I've never been before and my mom (who will be my travel buddy) likes Harry Potter as well.
I wish I could chime in, but I am benched due to the stress fracture.
I will be following the plan my sports med doc is giving me on Dec 28th when I go back and hopefully get the air cast off and the thumbs up to start running again...
Sounds like everyone has been having great runs lately- that's awesome. I have slacked a little in terms of running and my diet over the past couple of weeks. This is the first holiday we have had since my dad unexpectedly died in March, and I noticed I was getting more stressed and agitated in the week or so leading up to it. But things were better and did my long run on Sat without being too much slower than my already normal slow pace.
If it's not too late:
Meaning of DIS Name: Disney is like Calgon-- it take you away ;)
Races: none planned yet.
Upcoming Races: Princess Half
Pets: two cats
Hobbies/Interests: Running, reading, and sleeping ( can that be a hobby?) Favorite Disney Park: World Showcase, although I love MK because it seems so Disney to me.
Coolest Things You Ever Did: don't know if it's cool, but I dug a grave once
[How many times do you run each week? Do you do distance or time? two weekday runs 30 min each and long run on the weekend
Do you cross-train or just run?
I cross train only bc I have a trainer who makes me
How many all-rest days?
At least one and usually two
Are you doing straight run or run/walk?
run/walk
Most importantly---when are you arriving/leaving the Happiest Place on Earth for the Princess weekend?!?
I am getting there Friday and leaving Wednesday
How far are you training to for the Princess? My plan takes me up to 14.
How many times do you run each week? Do you do distance or time? I run 2 short runs during the week, (30 minutes) and then a long run on the weekend (usually Saturday). My long run is distance-based.
Do you cross-train or just run? I try to do yoga once a week, and I lift weights when I have time. I should be a little more serious about cross-training, I think. I just am afraid of being sore for a running day.
How many all-rest days? 2-3
Are you doing straight run or run/walk? For my long runs I usually do 4:1 run/walk. Saturday I did a 7 mile run and ran the whole thing. For the 10k I ran earlier this month I planned on doing my intervals, but only did 2 of the walk breaks.
When are you arriving/leaving the Happiest Place on Earth for the Princess weekend?!? We arrive Friday afternoon and fly out Tuesday night.
What park are you going to celebrate in after the race? We have reservations at Le Cellier that evening, but I think we are getting park hoppers, so we may go to MK for a while as well.
