My thought on shoes... you can pay for them or pay the doctor and PT to correct problems from wearing worn out shoes or ill fitted shoes. For me paying for the shoes is cheaper than paying the dr.

There's no reason to pay for either. You can buy good, well fit shoes for a reasonable price.

Send me some pixie dust.....after debating this week I am signing up for a Thanksgiving 10k. I am HOPING my finish time will put me out of the last corral at the princess. With my pace, its on the bubble whether i will make it or not and I think the course is a bit hilly, which is NOT inmy favor. But.... whether i meet my time goal or not, I will have run 6 miles Turkey Day and the race benefits those in need so its a win/win.

amy, i'm not sure how many miles i had on these shoes but i've been running with them since august....so not really that long. i actually think they were too small as well as not the right support.

i'm going to head to a running store hopefully on sunday and get fitted for a good shoe. that being said, my upper limit is no more than 100 bucks and only if i really love them. i'm going to bring my new insoles with me that the doctor gave me today.

what do you guys do for just regular walking around shoes? i'm spending so much time thinking about my running shoes but i walk a ton as well. should we be using insoles in our walking shoes too?

I just spent some $$ on danskos for the day...I am a preschool teacher an on my feet. SO comfy and supportive don't need support! I do have some supports in my everyday sneakers...which my doc said because of my feet issues was a good idea.....he didn't prescribe them but said they would help support my feet. I used to move my orthotics from shoe to shoe, but lazy me just got some super feet orthotics for my running shoes, too tired of moving my others back and forth. For my everday sneakers I get New Balance 800 series or higher.

Do you know what time they look for in a 10K to bump you out of the last corral? I'm considering doing a 10K just to have something to submit since something is better than nothing, but I wasn't sure what kind of times they're looking for.

Oooh I was told super feet was a good brand by my physio. Do you like them?

?

My understanding is that you should submit a time that would indicate finishing in under 2 hours and 45 miinutes. I think that is around 12:30/mile. The first year I did the Princess, I submitted my time for a 10K the fall before (my first race ever) with a time of exactly 12:30/mile. They put me in corral A for the Princess. Of course, it was HALF the size that year but fun to see that A on my bib ... probably the only time in my life -- and I'm OK with that!

You should definitely do the 10K...it's great to be out in the race atmosphere a few times during your training. I would also submit your time even if you are slower than the 12:30--you never know what the field is like. They do and they know how huge the beginner crowd is so just finishing a previous race may get you in a closer corral.
Good luck!

Wow you guys have been chatty!

Does anyone know if I need to bring/send Disney proof of time if my time was from a Disney race?

Skipped my run yesterday because it was pouring, so I have to go today...but I think it should be warmer today so that's good. I'm trying to follow Jeff Galloways plan this time around; but I may end up doing Wed./Fri. runs instead of Tues/Thurs (don't think it really matters...)

As for shoes, my dad told me 300 miles or 3 months; he says which ever comes first. I usually wait too long, the ones I have now I ran the Princess in last year! (in my defense, I didn't do too much running last spring or summer)

Good Luck! I'm signed on for a 10K the week after Thanksgiving for the same reason...and the course I'm on is a fairly hilly one as well! I'm not looking forward to that, but I've been working on some inclines lately in the cross training/boot camp class I'm in and have been focusing mentally on "attacking" the incline portion of my runs during the week. I think it's paying off because I really knocked it out last night on my short 3 mile run and almost didn't even notice I was on an incline...I even clocked in my best 3 mile time ever, which was a nice surprise!

Again, good luck on Turkey day...the hills will NOT beat us!!! I'm doing 5 mi. that day so I won't be feeling bad about that extra slice of pie!!!!

That's where race expos can come in handy. The running stores and other vendors there often are trying to clear out the current year's models to make room for next year's. I bought two pairs of my Asics at the San Antonio marathon expo this past Sunday for $70 each. That's a great deal for a shoe that normally sells for $135. I know the vendors at the Disney expos offer similar deals too. Many local specialty running stores also offer clearance and other sales to move old inventory. For me, I'd rather cut back spending in other areas and hit the sales to get new shoes when I need them than put too many miles on them and risk getting injured. Everyone's situation is different, of course. This is just what I do. :)

At my first expo everything was expensive, so I didn't bother anymore. I will look at the shoes at the Disney expo. I have paid 90 for my Asics and I think they are great.

For my next pair, I promise not to jam and squirm into them with the laces tied. Has anyone tried elastic laces? Lol

I went to our local running store and was fitted for Brooks. I love them! They weren't the color that I wanted, but they really feel good when I run.

If you submit a time, does it have to be from a 10k or longer?

My husband tried to get out of taking me to the Disney Princess last night.
No one is eager to go because they have been to Disney already. Been there, done that, kind of thing. I think my husband is squeemish about spending money. Lol

The kids don't like it when I am busy doing something for myself. LOL On a vacation, I am usually there entertaining and taking care of their needs.

I am not signed up yet!! But, I will try again tonight.

I am supposed to run 2 miles today, but have some shopping to do first. I will try and run faster today, since it is such a short run. I have to try and build up some speed.:yay:

I don't know. For the Detroit 1/2 my husband registered me online and typed that I would do it in 2 1/2 hours.

When I picked up my packet at the expo, the bib told me which "corral" I had to be in.

I would like more info on the Disney rules. I would like to know where the Disney Expo is going to be. I probably will have to go alone. Which is better, because I like to spend money! lol

It doesn't hurt to bring a printout of your time..you can decide when you get there what you want to do. The whole corral thing? I submitted a 2:28 half for this year and got Corral B and was very happy as I was in front of my pack. For DL 1/2 I submitted a 2:09 (that is my time from the Princess Half 2010) and got corral C.

Wow on the shoes...I have purchased 3 pairs since returning for the Princess Half this year and am getting ready to order a new pair to start wearing the beginning of Dec. The one pair of the three I don't wear that much. I really like them, but not enough stability so once a week is all I wear them.

They can look up any race (with internet-published results) on the computer for you once you are there, including Disney races.

I had no proof of time for Princess 2010, and estimated 3:30, and was still in corral D of A-E. Even if you have no proof of time, still put down an estimated.

I'm pretty sure that the Expo is at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex.

Also have you considered taking this trip by yourself? That's what I am doing. I'm running for me and going on a trip for me. I know it sounds extremely selfish, but as a mother of 6 I finally decided it was ok to take a few days off. I can hardly wait.

My trainer recommended that I buy 2 pair of shoes at a time...one pair I wear during the week on my 2 shorter runs and the other pair I use on the long weekend run...seems to be working out good so far! I wear Asics Cumulus...$100 a pop! It helps though that I have a very sentimental Dad...he told me a couple of months ago that when I was ready to buy the shoes I was going to wear for the race, that he wanted to buy them for me...so that worked out great this time...2 for 1! I plan to use the ones I wear only once a week right now for the Princess...they are pinkish/purpleish and white of course!!!

If I had been running I would have gotten 3 pairs by now also! But I was working a lot more after the race and then in the summer twisted my ankle so I didn't run for months!

Thanks! I was hoping they could do this, I didn't want to have to remember to bring something else with me!

Wow I have Asics Kayano Gel 16 (or something like that) and they cost 200. :scared1: Probably going back to the store to talk to them cause the support just isn't there. :confused3

So if I estimate a time with no proof there's still a chance of not being in the last corral?
