My trainer recommended that I buy 2 pair of shoes at a time...one pair I wear during the week on my 2 shorter runs and the other pair I use on the long weekend run...seems to be working out good so far! I wear Asics Cumulus...$100 a pop! It helps though that I have a very sentimental Dad...he told me a couple of months ago that when I was ready to buy the shoes I was going to wear for the race, that he wanted to buy them for me...so that worked out great this time...2 for 1! I plan to use the ones I wear only once a week right now for the Princess...they are pinkish/purpleish and white of course!!!

So I understand about Dad...when I buy shoes it is often 3 at a time as I buy for my girls. I'm glad to do it as they are in college and I'm glad they are motivated to stay healthy.

I use Running Warehouse(hope I can say that on the boards) Free shipping

So if I estimate a time with no proof there's still a chance of not being in the last corral?

You may find a different experience, but that is what happened with me last year. I registered in mid-Jan and with an estimated time of 3:30 (though I finished in 3:11), and was in D of A-E. One woman in my group (the one who finished in 2:20 actually) did NOT estimate at all and was in E.

As a WISH member, use the WISHD discount code and get 15% off. It's a sticky somewhere around here so I would think it would be fine to mention them.

So, I got an appt with a sports med doc and am going at 1:30 today, for my shin. Wish me luck!!

I'm pretty sure that the Expo is at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex.

Also have you considered taking this trip by yourself? That's what I am doing. I'm running for me and going on a trip for me. I know it sounds extremely selfish, but as a mother of 6 I finally decided it was ok to take a few days off. I can hardly wait.

Wow, a mother of 6!!! That is just wonderful AND more of a reason to take time for yourself!!! You will have plenty of company when you get there!:cheer2:

Oooh I might try and run a 10K anyways but I'm being told to watch the distances right now by my physio. I'll probably estimate anyways. It might be that if you estimate below 2:45 you have to have proof but if you estimate anything above that they'll give you benefit of a doubt since it's still not 'fast' by marathon standards.

I'll have to check out that Running Warehouse place (if they ship to Canada).

Good luck at the doc's! I just got back from mine. Hopefully you'll enjoy your trip more than I did mine.

Wow I have Asics Kayano Gel 16 (or something like that) and they cost 200. :scared1: Probably going back to the store to talk to them cause the support just isn't there. :confused3

Wow! That's a whole lot more than I pay for my Kayanos. Even when I buy them at my local running store instead of an expo, they're only $135. I think you need a better store. :)

It might be the U.S -> Canadian conversion. :confused3

I saw a lot at the 135-170 price bracket too, but wider foot + bad pronation apparently limits my choices. :sad1:

Do you know what time they look for in a 10K to bump you out of the last corral? I'm considering doing a 10K just to have something to submit since something is better than nothing, but I wasn't sure what kind of times they're looking for.

Oooh I was told super feet was a good brand by my physio. Do you like them?

I do love the super feet. I have had NO issues iwth my feet in my running shoes. I did some online research and saw almost all positive reviews and a couple friends recommended. VERY supportive and they have different kinds depending on your arch though not custom. I have "good " arches, not flat nor high and got the pink ones. My feet have actually been doing better since I got them, not sure if that is related or if its just time for some healing as I have been dealing with this since May.

I run in Asics 2150's right now with my superfeet....all pink!

Based on what I read here.....hoping to finish the 10k in under 1:19....I do have a 12.5mm pace on a good day so its iffy that I will make it. Either way its good for me to be in a race even if I will probably be the last person in my age bracket.

Hope your Dr has good news and help for your shins Kat

Thanks Joan!

Unfortunately, I have a stress fracture in my left shin. I get to wear an air cast for 6 weeks and no running.

She did say that I can bike and swim, and will be able to resume ice hockey in 2-3 weeks.

Bad news Kat
Do you have a place to swim?
I swam this summer training for the DL 1/2 and loved it, but my pool is outside. If I were in your shoes (pun intended) I would join a pool...I don't like biking.
When is your next race? Princess? If so you should be ok :thumbsup2

My gym has indoor and outdoor pools, so I should be good to go for swimming and pool running. I am not a biking fan either.

Ouch. Wishing you a quick recovery!

Kat - I am so sorry to hear about your leg. I hope it heals fast.

I will def. ride my bike more often to give my bones a break.

Whoops! it didn't copy the whole address, but I found a t-shirt for the other 1/2 marathon in Disney World. It looked nice.

I was looking for the address for the ESPN complex and came upon the shirt.

I would never go alone. I would get too lonely after the race. The fam. said that they would all go now, but haven't gotten dh completely convinced. I wish it wasn't so far from home.

I called Animal Kingdom Hotel and they said that they provide a shuttle to the Expo on Saturday before the race.

Thanks Joan!

So sorry to hear about the stress fracture! This may sound dumb, but how did you realize that something was wrong with it and you weren't just "sore"? What did they do to tell that it was indeed a stress fracture? I did something on my leg and after a week of rest it felt better so I started back to jogging but now it feels like it is starting up again. I don't know if it's shin splints or worse.

Hey just checking in. Wow registration is filling up fast. Will have to get registered soon. Can't believe how quickly it is coming up.

Will check in more often!!!!
