Marathon Weekend 2027

One more point of something people don’t consider- the emphasis on run walk is also going to mess up course congestion. We get the etiquette of walkers to right, runners to left but when you are run/walking it is hard to completely change where you are on the course (and sometimes could even be dangerous to do so).
I've never understood why some people are so bothered by people walking on the left. Someone walking on the left and someone running at a slower pace than me on the left are essentially the same thing - someone that I need to pass. As long as you're only 2 across, and signal your walk breaks appropriately, stay on the left. I do run/walk/run when I'm running with my son, and the constant having to go from the right to the left is annoying, especially when you're trying to cross before being right enough to walk.

I think this is something that not enough people take into consideration. No matter where you start, with maybe the exception of A where there are no or small lines for photos, the stopping messes up the average paces because people join later corrals once their line is done.

I also think another thing people often don’t take into consideration is that just because someone HAS pot doesn’t mean they are going to run that fast. Lots of reasons for this— pictures, wanting to have an easy run, etc. I have POT for the half distance but I have never ever ran the equivalent for a 10K or half at Disney.
This is absolutely my personal experience. Most of whatever corral I happen to start in goes out faster than I like to, so I start at the back of it and once upon a time had nearly a mile practically by myself until the faster runners of the corral behind me caught up, at which point things both ahead of and behind me had spread out well. Lately, though, they catch me up much sooner because of the more frequent mini-wave starts.

Conversely, I’m in my groove and moving well late in most races, just as a lot of folks who were faster at the beginning are slowing down due to fatigue or falling back through the pack after a lot of stops along the way. So then I’m stuck in narrow sections unable to speed up to my normal speed.

It’s just NOTHING like a non-rD race!

Ooooh, you’re speaking my language here! I try real hard to restrain myself when the “WALKERS ONLY ON THE RIGHT!!!” crowd gets vocal, because I know how heated it can get… but it’s never as simplistic as there being a single walking pace or a single running pace. People move at all different speeds, regardless of whether their feet happen to be off the ground at the same time! I’ve often passed others running on my walk intervals, and am often passed by people walking while doing my run intervals. IMO the better guidance is for ALL participants to be aware of their surroundings, look around before slowing or speeding up to be sure they have a clear path to change pace, make sure in narrow sections there is at least a person’s width of space open for faster racers (and chairs, and medics) to get through, and always, ALWAYS, the person in front of you has the right of way.

We might have the theme...

I like it so far! I've said it before, but I like Marathon Weekend to be just Mickey (main characters) and running themed, that's all it needs. Didn't like tacking on "what's your story" last year. I don't need drama beyond "running a marathon in Disney World!!" which is more than exciting and inspiring enough!

I view "theme" as the art and design choices they make overall. Doesn't have to be anything deep.

So many thoughts! On the pacing and corrals: I’m not sure how you fix this without being utterly draconian with rules/qualifications or spreading out the corral starts significantly. The NYC marathon has wave starts that can be hours apart, and it’s a pain. Disney can’t spread things out this way until we start running at 2 or 3am. I’ve experienced running NYC out of the second and third waves (and twice at the front of the pack back when they were much more lax about the start lines), and the experiences were vastly different.

If you run giant races, you will experience annoyances and the feeling that earlier runners had it better (and most of the time I think that’s probably true). To me it’s the trade off of giant race energy.

Not true. Disney could restore some semblance of balance to rD/Parks Ops since, after all, it is the organization’s signature race and race weekend, and have the parks open an hour or two later.

Teamrundis found a way to uncover something that seems to be embedded in their webpage but not public yet.

I like it a lot!
I’ve been in all day meetings so of course there was a leak & announcement today. 😆

Um…..what exactly are people interpreting as “theme”? The colors? The nod to Donald in the word Marathon? The headbands? I don’t see anything that screams “unifying theme across all races” to me.

(I’ve never done “subtle” well!)
For me personally, it’s the lack of theme that I like. I just want the classic characters. If there “must” be a theme, make it running/exercising.

I love the "theme"!! I also love Donald as a character, so I like that he's so heavily represented. I might be in the minority, but I feel like Marathon Weekend doesn't really need a theme outside of the characters, so I'm ok with the subtle theming.
💯

all of a sudden, I’m considering Goofy because the focus is on Donald but I can’t go and not run the marathon. I’m guessing I’ll just have to take whatever I can get when registration happens next month.

If only operations would be willing to keep the parks open an hour or two later, then opening a bit later wouldn’t be such a big deal right?! :cool1: (Ya I know easier said than done, but a girl can dream!)

Was shut out of the 10k @ wine & dine so there is now a part of me pondering that IF this means Donald is incorporated with the Munks for the 10k (my three faves) should I chance putting a time off request for registration
