Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

The finalists are so weak this year as compared to last. I can't help but think the judges wish they could go back and re-do some of the initial audition results. Scooter girl would've been better than half of what's left!!
I loved Quentin Tarantino on this week's show. Finally
::yes:: a judge who had a brain in his head. I'm so sick of celebrity judges who think each contestant is wonderful:crazy: .

Hope we see more like him in the coming weeks.

WDW on June 24:wave: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

We've been following this years American Idol on ITV2 over here in UK. On Fridays we get the programme and the results programme (do they string that out or what??!) back to back.

I am so surprised that JPL lasted as long as he did!!

We think Latoya London has class, Jennifer Hudson can be good with the right song - she was outstanding the week before with Circle Of Life, and Fantasia is another great 'belter'!

Those three ladies definitely shone with the songs from the films but isn't George just the sweetest guy??

I usually agree with Simon. It is unwise for them to be so dismissive of criticism - it can be used constructively, and when he has said that someone's singing was excrutiating or awful it was just that! People need to know!

I definitely agree about 99% of the time with Simon... it's just that he has NO tact but he's usually RIGHT ON!

I also agree that Quentin T was a breath of fresh air, he spoke as if he was really into AI and was willing to give constructive criticism... I loved his "I didn't care" or "So What?" comments. I'm sure Simon felt like his nasty remarks were watered down compared to his!

When do you think the non-elimination weeks are coming?? They are down to seven. I think one more round maybe 2 and then a non-elimination week.

Your guess??

Non-elimination week? Did we have that last year?

My feelings towards the contestants have changed. I'm tired of George, Jasmine and La Toya who I quite liked in the beginning. I've never liked Jennifer. I like Diana and John Stevens about the same as before. I have come complete circle with Fantasia. What I saw as attitude in the beginning, I don't see as attitude at all anymore. Actually, I think she and Simon get along very well and her comments to him are teasing and all in fun. I think she is my favourite now. We'll see what I think in another 4 weeks.

What I remember from last season is that the only week no one was eliminated was when one of the contestants (Cory) was kicked off the show for a criminal charge. They had no elimination that week, as he had already left and they still had to get in the right number of episodes ;)

Glad to see one of the Johns to go. If it is Barry Manilow next week, I think John will do fine. He will pick a slow song (Most of Barry's songs are slow anyways). John I think have one more round left.

I doubt George will be the next IA, We already had Rueben Stadard and I don't think they want another Rueben. I honestly feel that it will boils down to Fantasia and LaToya. They are both very good...excellent.

My favorites are Fantasia and LaToya. Jasmine is no longer my favorite. You can't compare her voice from the other 2 girls. She doesn't have that "soul" voice in her. She can sing but not as great as the other 2, this is my opinion.

Saw JPL on "Fox and Friends" this morning. Already he's riding that AI castoff tide of fame.;)

I can hardly wait to see what everyone will sing tonight. I think hearing Fantasia sing "Could It Be Magic" would be awesome. Despite her grating personality, the girl can sing - and that song is very powerful.

How about George singing "Bandstand Boogie"? He could do some serious bouncing to that one!:D

I watched JPL on Regis & Kelly yesterday. He is definetely riding the wave.

Looking forward to tonight - Barry Manilow is great.

Melinda

Barry himself said that Fantasia is doing It's a Miracle...another group mentioned that Jasmine is singing Dionne Warwick's "I'll Never Love This Way Again" (he produced it for her, so that's a stretch...)

Gail/Cookie - got your bib on? :teeth:

Well I think Diana started the night off great - Good job Diana. :Pinkbounc

So far, Jennifer Hudson is the only one who did good. Diana sounded pretty bad when she started the song. She didn't sound as bad towards the end, but the first half was pretty bad. And George, he just keeps proving why I don't like him! Just like Diana he's getting worse and worse every week. When I heard him sing, I thought if the judges didn't say anything bad to him, then there's something wrong going on here! He sounded horrible and I couldn't even tell what words he was singing! I thought last week was bad, but this was definitely his worst. I don't know how people can only bash John Stevens, when George is so bad.

ok, I am giving John props tonight!! He did good and I expected to hit my mute button as soon as he started to sing. Way to go John!

(did I just say that, LOL)

I think Barry said the most sincere and sweet things to each contestant. I loved when he told Latoya (i think) that she is the reason he writes music. Ahhhhh what a great guy! He made me almost tear up!!

I'm surprised with the judges tonight. They told Diana that was like her best performance, and I didn't think it was that good. I like Jasmine but I don't think that was one of her better performances. There were a couple parts that sounded off and I thought they made her out to sound a lot better. I also like Latoya, but that performance definitely wasn't as good as some of her others, so I'm surprised they gave her such good comments. I thought they held her to higher standards after some of her other performances. And I really thought John did good tonight. I know I'm biased, but he didn't sound off at all and I liked it! So I'm surprised at some of the very positive comments they gave others, and the negative comments they gave him.

As for George and Jennifer, there comments were right on there. George was horrible and Jennifer was great.

Here's my take on tonight so far.

I enjoyed Diana..thought she did a great job on the song.

Did not like George.

Did not like Jennifers version of Weekend In New England. I wasn't watching just listening and I couldn't even understand what she was singing...why did he change the arrangement?

I enjoyed Jasmine tonight..I love that song.

I liked John's Mandy...not one of my favorite songs.

LaToya was good

I am not enjoying Fantasia at all!

I don't see what the big deal with Diana was; I don't think she's that good and she wasn't any better tonight.

I liked some of the stuff George did, but I thought he had way too much rasp in his voice and I wasn't crazy about it.

YAAAAAAY JENNIFER!!! In the beginning when she was softer it sounded a bit shaky, but then she really came out and it ROCKED. And, she wasn't so bad with the eyes this time.

Jasmine sounded incredible compared to how she's sounded for a while. In Randy's words, she's "finally coming back." Her voice was very strong tonight.

ALRIGHT LATOYA!!! There's nothing else to say here, she just ROCKED. The best so far.

I love my Johnny! He sounded great just now! And who is Stan Laurel (don't yell at me dad if I'm supposed to know that!)?

And finally, Fantasia. She's extremely powerful, yes, but I still think her voice is too Macy Gray-ish. And she just HAD to finish with an extra minute of "yeah yeah yeah" didn't she?

Uggh Fantasia sounded so screechy! I don't understand how people can like that, especially the judges, while she's screaming in their faces. I thought she was gonna get negative comments for so much screeching. Sometimes she doesn't bother me, but other times I can't stand her voice.

So for tonight I think the top 3 were Jennifer, John and Latoya.

I think Jasmine was in the middle.

And the worst 3 were most definitely George without a doubt, and also Diana and Fantasia.

Unfortunately, we won't be seeing those 3 in the bottom tomorrow.

I loved Johnny's version of Mandy!!!! The only one I didn't think did a good job was George. Fantasia was a bit over the top but still good. La Toya was very professional once again. Diana and Jasmine and Jennifer were good.

Based on tonight's performances, bottom three for me would be George, Diana and Jennifer.

The final three are getting more and more difficult!
