Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

I liked the two brothers, also, CUUUUTE! :smooth:

The airborne girl got the shaft... :(

Scooter girl has emotional problems based on her bio, I think she might crack under the pressure, especially without her meds!

Dean Martin guy and Unchained Melody guy should go far. :smooth:

Hey, where are the Rubens??? No clones of him yet.

I saw the Seacrest show and didn't notice them picking on Clay. What I DID see if Paula's absolute DISDAIN of Simon. Wow, he's really a major creep!

I am so happy AI is back!!!!!!!!! I just love watching the auditions, we laugh so hard. I love watching the judges faces when the really bad people sing.

Scat girl, oh that was awful and the Bulgaria woman who sang Cher, what a riot!!! Oddly enough Scooter girl actually gave me goosebumps when she sang Celine, that surprised me, but she is a little loopy.

It cracks me up though, these people all go out and rip on Simon, when Randy says some things that are just as nasty if not more! The twin women who stunk, Randy told them they'd need a lobotomy before they could practice to get better, yet they went out and said how nasty Simon was.

Scat Girl was too much! I could listen to that scream at the end a million times and laugh every time!:teeth:

Well, I think Scooter Girl is my favorite so far. She is crazy, but fun to watch..... and she can sing.:D

I was surprised they didn't want the military girl too. Maybe they plan to bring her back for the "Wild Card" show, or maybe it's too much of a hassle to have military in the contest.

Cant' wait for tonight, but I'm hoping to see more "good" performances.:D

My favorite so far is scooter girl too. I think she's a hoot and a good singer.

I loved last night's show. It's starting out to be a fun season.

::happy dance of American Idol joy::
Ok, here's what I'm thinking on this whole crazy topic. :)

Scooter Girl- this year's Vanessa. Kinda different, she can still sing, but people might get tired of her really fast.

Jesus and Noel- Can you even IMAGINE the fan signs if Jesus makes it to the finals??? LOL!!

Unchained Melody guy- Not as good as Clay.

Guy who compared himself to Clay b/c they were both camp counselors- HYSTERICAL!!

Simon saying (in response to Scat girl's comment about God helping her do her best) "Well, He must have taken the day off."- I almost fell off my couch!!!

Overall, it was a pretty sad showing for NYC!!! Yikes! They really do seem to be playing all the worst ones. Let's hope for some more fun for tonight's auditions!!

My kids were both dismayed at the military girl's summary dismissal! I was kinda' surprised she didn't get the Paula vote if no other, but for all 3 of them go give her the hook  -- a bit of a surprise anyway.

I liked the brothers, Jesus and Noel, although I don't know how far they will get--they didn't seem to have "it". Unchained Melody guy sang well as did the 16 y/o crooner and 16 y/o girl with dark curly hair and hat (came from a performing family that defected from somewhere). I'm reserving judgment of Scooter Girl--or is it Screwy Girl? Unfortunately, no one "blew me away" which is pretty usual for these audition shows.

As to the comments earlier about Seacrest's show and Paula's negative statements about Clay--I, too, heard that and posted about it on the "Clay" thread. Here's that post:

Paula was a guest on the Ryan Seacrest chatfest yesterday. The pair discussed AI3, obviously, and she had some not so complimentary things to say about our man, Clay.

She hinted that he "played" the audience to gain votes and sympathy. Further that he is "focused" on a goal and was that way throughout the competition. It wasn't what she said as much as the inference and the tone with which she made her comments. One (or at least I) got the impression she felt he was manipulative and really not as naive as people believe.

She went on to say that she felt Ruben had been given short shrift because it wasn't right to release Clay's album before the winner's hit the charts. What difference that would have made is questionable, but she felt Ruben's sales suffered because of the earlier release of Clay's CD. In a minor slam against Clay's CD, she said that she felt Clay's voice was much better than the material he was "given" to sing on the CD, too. (This from an ultimate one hit wonder. . . )

Anyway--Paula didn't come off as little miss "sweet and nice" yesterday--she acted a bit vampish and certainly wasn't too flattering where Clay was concerned.

Did anyone else catch the show and do you concur with my take or was I just not "hearing" her correctly. . .

Paula also said that she and the other judge's would mock Clay and his reaction to the announcement that he would be continuing on in the program during the elimination shows. Maybe I'm too sensitive, but I just felt she was making some negative inferences by trying to "act" as if she didn't wish to say too much on the topic of the prior AI. Her whole appearance just seemed a bit ditzy.

Anyway, looking forward to the new shows!

ROTFLMAO tonight! Are these people for real? They are killing A Whole New World right now!!!! NOOOOOO This is going to cause me to drink! LOL

I thought tonight's group was a whole lot better than last night. That one guy in the green t shirt was yummy. There's definitely a few who I pick to make the top 10, maybe five. I think the one with the red hair will tone down her look a lot by the end. Also, that other girl, the one with the blue dress and did she have white streaks in her hair? I can see her becoming more polished.

I LOVE this show!!! I only watched a few episodes last season, but I plan to watch them all this time. I was laughing soooo hard at some of those people last night. They have to have a lot of nerve to do what they do. I was disappointed when the military girl didn't get to move ahead, I thought she was great. They probably thought she didn't have the right look. Nobody really blew me away, I thought they were all OK. I just love to hear the really bad auditions. DH has a theory that there can't be people THAT BAD who really think they can sing. He thinks they are actors planted there to make things funny.

What did you think of heart guy, the one who thought he may make it b/c he has a good heart? Oh my, I can't wait for tonight's show!

i about fell off the couch when they showed keith from last year's auditions!! i had forgotten all about him until they showed him...

the good heart guy creeped me out...

i do feel kinda bad for the people that get up there to sing while randy and simon laugh...you would think that they could wait until they were done to laugh like that...but it makes me laugh even harder to see them laughing...

and that gal who did the flashdance song? OMG...she thinks she's going to make someone a lot of money someday? by doing what?! ROFLMAO...her friend's reaction was almost as funny as hers!

Oh, I almost forgot about her! I was starting to think she was just doing the audition to be on tv, for a joke maybe? She didn't seem really upset until she said she was going to make a lot of money. I don't know, maybe she was for real but something about her wasn't right. Actually, quite a few things about her weren't right ;) :D.

Ok, my favorite bad singers last night were the flashdance girl, the heart guy (yeah, he was creepy) and the guy who sang "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" ... :rotfl:

I am so glad they showed a clip of Keith, he is my all time favorite!

DH and I were talking about Simon and Randy laughing and we've come to the conclusion that they are probably so tired at times they get "punchy". But I do feel bad for the people that have to audition in front of them while they're laughing, at least they can't see us. :teeth:

I can't wait until tonight, I think they may have saved the "best" for last.

I have no problems with the Heart guy expect that he shouldn't have been there. Obviously it's not the right place for that and he set himself up for failure.

Do only the really bad ones and really good ones get to audition for Simon, Randy and Paula? In the Canadian Idol auditions, the contestants had to audition in front of a few other sets of judges before they advanced to the "real judges". Is it the same in the American Idol auditions? Randy et al. can't possibly be seeing them all. I think that the pre-judges must pick and choose the bad singers who they think will really give the real judges a good laugh and also any singers who they think are good enough to get to Hollywood.

There are pre-judges. My son knows a girl at school that went down to Houston for the auditions. She told him that they were set up in groups of three and about every third one went on through. She was number three in her group but because she was 16 years old they sent the number 2 person through. They said that she was not old enough. That person didn't make it.

What about the Kimberly Caldwell look alike? I hope that she listens to Paula and changes her hair color.

I liked the red headed girl and Fantasia?.

The Kimberly Caldwell look-alike doesn't hold a candle to the real Kimberly Caldwell - in looks or talent, and certainly not in the class department. I couldn't believe she was up there saying that she is a performer, as if Kim C. isn't. Ick. I didn't think she should have advanced, and it had nothing to do with her hair color - I thought she was singing off key.

The heart guy was sad. That just made me uncomfortable to watch, he appeared to have some mental problems.

The funniest by far was the Over the Rainbow guy. OMG. And the guy who cried at the end. And the Flashdance girl. There is no way that these people can actually think they have one ounce of musical talent. They are there for their 15 minutes of fame, or they are mentally unbalanced.

My favorite last night was the girl from Georgia who's Dad was rooting for her. The song she chose wasn't the best for this sort of competiton, but she can sing! I was glad to see her advance. I thought the stud muffin guy who serenaded Paula was not that great of a singer. Oh, and the guy who Simon said had a winning smile - he also has a winning voice, imo!

I commented to dh too, about the Kim C. wannabe who said the difference between them is that she is a performer. Ha, that's exactly what Kim C was! I like Kim C, but she was not idol material, she was a performer. She could do great in shows somewhere. That girl bugged me. I hope she changes her hair color too.

I liked the girl with the red hair and the girl who's dad was with her. The guy who sereneded Paula was pretty cute too LOL.

American Idol starts over here on Friday. I prefer it to the British version.
