October's OHANA -- Exercise Challenge

945/900

30 minutes this morning (HIIT and then 5 minutes of stretching).

I worked late yesterday and the day before because our student producers were auditioning other students for various positions in their shows (director, choreographer, etc.). So no exercise Thursday or yesterday. DS9 went back to school and was very happy to be there and to see his friends. Yesterday they also had a special assembly for students who read at least 10 books over the summer, so he was happy to make it back in time to be there. My father went to the assembly for both my boys. And DS7 lost another tooth yesterday so he was excited too! :)

good morning!

Do you ever have this happen? you finally get a morning where you don't have to get up early, you don't have anything to do or anywhere to go and you body wakes up (like, WAKES UP) at 4:00 a.m.? I layed there, and I layed there thinking, "surely sleep will come back to me." but nope. no such luck. So I got up at 5, found the couch and a blanket and read my newest read.

Now I've made a cup of tea and I'm doing one of my most favorite morning activities. Saying good morning to my Ohana October family, and all is right with the world. :)

Congratulations to SarahDisney who is now Inferno RED!

Congratulations also to SlightlyocdDisneyfan - who is a Great Grey Go-Getter!!!

Team update - we're currently at a very respectful 57.99% and are only 3,251 minutes away from our goal!

Question - cardio vs. strength training?

What do you think? Historically I've been more of a cardio girl, but lately I've been doing more strength (logged in 35 minutes yesterday) and I'm really, really liking it.

Do you lean towards one over the other? Do you try to balance them out and do a bit of each? And what about yoga and stretching, do you fit that in as well? Do you do different activities at different times of the year? I'm curious.

November -

I'm willing to do November, but I don't want to step on anyone's toes.

If you're like me, you may be thinking about hosting and are trying to get up the courage to offer to take a month. If that's the case, let me encourage you to raise your hand. It's a great gig.

If I do November, please know that there may be a work-week where I may be a bit "off". That would be pre-registration week. If you went to college, do you remember that week when you signed up for the classes you want to take the following semester? If so, let me tell you that is one of the longest and most hectic weeks of the year for the behind the scenes people who deal with crying students, angry parents and flustered faculty advisors. Yep. It's about as much fun as it sounds and often involves at least 12-hour days.

SO - if no one volunteers and you can all put up with an over-tired and maybe teeny bit crabby host for 4 or 5 days, then I'll start a November thread on Wednesday, so we can all sign up and get revved up.

BUT FIRST - let's finish up October Strong!!

Adding 120 more minutes since last posting. A god day at the Gym. Met a lady who was told she had 6 months to live over 2 years ago, and hearing her story kept me going even longer than usual. She was inspirational in her story of beating spinal cancer.....so far so good!

620/900 so far

43 minutes today for me.

Mostly walking. I set out to do a walk/run with the kiddo but it was quite a bit more walking than running.

911/1200

1440/1500

So yesterday DS spilled a pot of tea all over the desk! :surfweb::scared1: Now the keyboard doesn't work. We got the mouse to work. Maybe the keyboard just needs more time to dry! :roll eyes: I'm not happy. I am happy about my minutes and it sounds like everyone is doing great! Go team! :cheer2:

Updated!

Disneybelle - glad you had a good day at the gym! Your conversation sounds really inspirational. Isn't in interesting how sometimes different people float into our lives, even if it's just for a few moments, and really touch our hearts?

I did some color changing this morning. I turned into a great-gray-go-getter.

And glss1/2fll! You are now Inferno RED! Congratulations!
Sorry to hear about the keyboard. hopefully, it's in better shape today.

Exciting Team Goal NEWS!

Even though the last two days, the posts have slowed down a bit (I'm guessing it's because everyone's busy having adventures.) We are at: 59%

AAANNNDDD, we are below the 3,000 minute mark! We need to do 2,885 minutes to reach the team goal of 75%

Hope you have a lovely Sunday. May the sunshine where you are (unless you're hoping for rain), may your favorite football team score many touchdowns, and may you have a chance to lace up your sneakers!

Cardio vs. strength...I always try to balance the two but sometimes there will be a week when I focus more on cardio for fat burn. I enjoy doing both. As far as yoga and stretching, I've been incorporating that more over the past 6 months. I do a few minutes of extra stretching after my workout DVDs because I just feel the stretching part at the end if rushed and the instructor doesn't hold the stretches long enough. I do the physical therapy exercises for my lower back to warm up for strength training, before the DVD warmup. My favorite stretching video is Cool It Off Express from the Slim Series Express workouts by Beachbody. I also have stretching/yoga workouts from ChaLEAN Extreme, Turbo fire, and the 21-day Fix, but Cool it Off Express is my favorite one. I modify all of my workouts (cardio, strength, and yoga/stretching) to accommodate my lower back issues and neck issues, and it all works out fine in the end. :)

210 min run Saturday

Thanks for hosting. You're so encouraging.

Got to get some more time in this week....onward and upward!

Mrs AR - wow, did you do another half this weekend???? Nice job!

DisneyBelle - good for that lady and lucky you for getting to hear her story! That would def inspire me to keep after my health and to remember that the 'experts' aren't always right and we shouldn't give up HOPE.

hmack - :worship: :worship: I have two who will be keeping their admins busy during pre-registration in Nov. Thanks for all your hard work!

We're doing great - I think we can make it!

Catching up on the weekend:
25 minutes walking yesterday
13 minute cardio barre video

992/1000

Assuming all goes as planned ... I should turn green tomorrow! (I would try to push for it tonight, but I want to go to sleep by 10:30 ... so I've got 3 minutes).

It wasn't an official half. Just a training run of 16 miles. It was slow and trying not to push after last week's hard 1/2.

Add another 95 minutes for me! That should be 781/900.

Thanks for hosting again! I'm already looking forward to another month.

YOU are amazing, amazing, amazing!

A big ole congratulations to Mrs AR who not only did a training run of SIXTEEN! miles but also turned Wish Green.

And, if you go to the first page you'll see that we have a few folks who are SO close to turning the next color that it is nearly as exciting as riding Splash Mountain and getting that feeling in your stomach right before you go over the big drop.

Sarah Disney - I like the way you think. I agree, I think we can meet the team goal. Or at least we'll build up a good sweat trying.

Team percentage - 62.43
Minutes to go before reaching the goal 2,403!

Every minute counts, so if you're like me and you had a light day and you're thinking, "I only did 15 minutes yesterday, that's sort of embarrasing" Post anyway. We're a family here and we're all pulling in the same direction.

Bangzoom687, MRS AR, 2TxAgs, Sarah Disney & SlightlyocdDisneyfan - thanks for checking in, it really helps to encourage me.

Can't wait to see what WE ALL do over this week.

Yes, hmack, I was just coming out into the open at Splash Mountain and the canoe was tipping right over the edge and I DID IT - went over the edge and made it to RED!!!

1285/1400

Haha, thanks for your enthusiasm! I've been fighting a cold the last few days, so not too many minutes each day, but enough to move levels.

MRS AR - I'm so impressed - 16 miles a week after you did 13 - wow! :thumbsup2

WooHoo!!!

64 minute walk/run for me today - and it was a great one!

SarahDisney - you're a great motivator, too! If hmack takes November hosting, maybe you (or MRS AR if she can do it on her ipad) should take December (arguably the busiest month, so feel free to decline that one!) Seriously, tho', I appreciate your support! :goodvibes Congrats on going GREEN!
