October 30, 2011 Wonder - A Haunting on the High Seas

I BELIEVE you are correct, as far as the US goverment goes. You are on a ship, leaving and returning to the same port so the docs you mentioned are all that they require. But, if something where to happen and you had to fly home from Mexico, S--t Happens, you would have to have a passport.
Because of this, DCL May require you have one. Call, first thing tomorrow, and check. You still have time to get one, if you have to - at a cost.

I actually checked online yeterday on DCL's requirements and it said the birth certificate with drivers license is fine. Of course they strongly encourage a passport for the reason Val mentioned above.

We Canadians need passports just to fly to get to LA for the cruise. I just got my new passport in my married name a few months ago as I booked my cruise in my married name and they have to match. Plus my driver's license was already in my married name :lol

That's good to know about the passports. My girlfriend went on a cruise to Mexico last year and told me we "had" to get them so we did. When I asked her about it this afternoon she said, well you don't really "have" to but I ment you really should. I guess better safe than sorry. Hope I didn't send anyone into a panic.

girl_barrie Thank You!

I have another question, While my family and I are frequent visitors to Disneyland, this is our first expierience with the fish extenders thing. I entered my info on the list but how to we communicate our room numbers to eachother since most of us are GTY? . . .:confused3

You're welcome. And I don't know!!! I'm sure we'll have cabin #'s before the trip - maybe we'll have to update the list when we find out! ? ? !!

We are planning on trying for a port upgrade so along with the meet and greet on the first day having a sign on someone's door to update cabin info was mentioned. I believe Stefanie Cadel said she would host the board on their door.

My husband took me to the DMV the day after we got back from our honeymoon to change my name on my license and then I changed the passport about 8 months later :rotfl:

Alcohol Policy Change

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are 4 or more new pages on the Forum thread about this new policy just this morning (do DISboard members know how to party??). Here is one posting at 9:20 PST this morning:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DISNEY CRUISE NEWS

Disney Cruise Alcohol Allowance
BY CAPTAIN MICKEY ⋅ AUGUST 30, 2011 ⋅ POST A COMMENT
FILED UNDER DISNEY CRUISE
Beginning September 19, 2011, a change is being implemented regarding the amount and types of alcohol that can be brought onboard on embarkation day. The change is as follows:

On embarkation day, guests (21 years of age and older) may bring on board one unopened bottle (750ml) of wine or champagne, or six bottles/cans (12 oz.) of beer per person, and it must be hand-carried in a day bag and/or carry-on luggage. Carry-on luggage dimensions cannot exceed 22″ wide, 14″ high and 9″ deep.

A $20 corkage fee per bottle will be charged should you wish to consume this wine/champagne in one of the main dining rooms, Palo or Remy. A corkage fee is a charge exacted at a restaurant for every bottle served that was not bought on the premises. Guests may not bring their personal beverages into any other venue, including public decks.

Any alcohol packed in checked luggage will be confiscated and discarded without notice or compensation. All beer/wine/champagne, over the allowable 1-bottle per guest (21 years of age and older) limit in carry-on luggage will also be confiscated and discarded without compensation.

Please be advised: Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including beverages) from checked luggage. In such cases, any alcohol will be discarded with no remuneration offered. Beverage containers are considered fragile and have previously caused damage in checked luggage. All fragile items must be transported inside carry-on luggage.

Please note on cruises prior to September 19, 2011, there is no limit to the amount of alcohol you bring onboard with you.
Then this was updated was posted at 9:56 PST:
whaaaat?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just spoke with a CM named Jeff on the DCL hotline (who was very nice, BTW). He said that as of 12pm today, the policy changed BACK to the original policy, but is still subject to change at any given time, and I should call back again before I sail in three weeks just to make sure it hasn't changed again. Whaaaat? He was really nice about it, but now I am SO confused.

As far as contacting Disney, I agree, if you are upset with the lack of fair notice with regards to the policy change, let Disney know! I sent a letter via email & snail mail.
If you have any opinion, you might want to send an e-mail to the address which was given in this posting:

I just talked to a lovely lady at DCL.. she suggested that I e mail dcl.guest.communications@disneycruise.com to voice my dissapointment at this new rule. This way they can monitor customer feedback and make changes if they feel necessary. They have not as yet received many calls regarding this matter so lets let them know how we feel.

Do they scan or look through every carry on item? :confused3 What about our carry on luggage, how do they check that? :rolleyes1 Boy would that change my plans. I don't think it's fair that they change the rules without any type of compensation after we have already paid for the trip. But that's just me. I'll be e-mailing my thoughts.

The last word we got and I posted, was they are not going to implement this change at this time. I don't know that means for the future. I recommend you send them an e-mail, to the link I posted, telling them your feelings on it.

I have not sailed out of LA yet, we came in after the PC trip but this will be our first out. At PC they put your carry-on through the x-ray just like at the airport. We have packed wine in our checked luggage and I don't know if DCL scans them again or not. From what I have seen watching them load the luggage onto the ships, I don't think so - but I could be wrong. We've carried on wine in our carry-on and they never said a word. We will need to wait and see.

It is a bit disappointing, especially since it's so sudden. Of course, there are people who book over a year out, so it's not like they can say all the people who have already booked are allowed to bring it. It would be nice if they waited till Jan 1 or something. It is nice they are still allowing beer. Some cruise lines (RCCL) won't even allow water to be brought on board. Most have the same wine/champagne restrictions as this new policy, but I have never heard of one allowing beer.

So let me get this straight, they changed the policy, people wigged, now it's back to being able to bring whatever you can carry on board? :confused3

Yes, for now. It is clear that DCL has been rethink their position on bringing alcohol onboard and if the last few days are any indication, they would like to make a change. This rescinded notice was "sneaked out" before a public announcement was made. The web site info was never changed and the reservation reps were never told to make this announcement. If you feel strongly, one way or the other, the time to let DCL know your opinion is now before it is a done deal.

I wasn't planning on bringing any bottles on board. If the policy changes before we cruise, I'll be happy to carry on a couple of bottles for anyone in the group.

That is very nice of you!!!. For now, I think we are fine. Val

Are any of you interested in a private tour which would include the Puerto Vallarta zoo? I was reading on the Trip Advisor about this zoo. Apparently, you can setup a session where you can hold and feed the animals, including baby tigers, lions, monkeys etc. sorta like you see on Jay Leno when Jack Hanna brings animals on.

The zoo is about 35 minutes from downtown and you get to see a bit of the city on the way. I have sent a message to the zoo asking what they could offer and at what cost. Also, a recommendation on transportation to the zoo. I'll share the info with you when I get it.

Meanwhile, here are a couple of links to info about the zoo:

Welcome!!! I've been booked on this cruise for months and don't have a costume yet so don't worry, you'll figure it out in time. Are you planning to participate in the FE? if so go to the first post and sign your family up on the list. We also have t-shirts and a meet and greet planned, along with a private mixology class.

I don't think I am going to dress up, but I was pretty giddy when I got the email! I just happened to be walking into Target at the time, and they are just starting to put out their Halloween stuff! It was such a "Fall" moment! Then I walked back outside and it was still 102 degress :lmao:

Depending on cost, I would definitely be interested!
