Hey Everyone,
your newest pirate-mama is back. I had to go to work (I am a flight attendant) so I was up in the air, looking down at the ocean, imagining that I was already there!!! Thanks again to all for a wonderful and warm welcome. I just read over the last couple days and wanted to make a few comments,
Jenn, My husband and I have been fostering/adopting for the past 13 years. I am a great resource if you want to hear the "good, the bad and the ugly" about the System. The ugly is mostly the SYSTEM. But we can let that stop you from helping and perhaps providing a "forever" home for a child. One of the reasons that we were so late booking is that we have a foster daughter (2yrs. on Oct 3) that we wanted to take with us. We had to finally make the dificult decision to leave her with some close friends that she is comfortable with...sigh
In the different "volunteer" groups that I have been involved with, one of the ways that we say "thank you" to the people that organize and dare I say take on responsiblities that for different reasons many of us will not or unable to take on, is to ask participants to make a small/optional donation (ex-$2. per kiddo or $5./family) The $$$ collected are then used to buy a "thank you gift) What do y'all think of that...NOT, the people who have tirelessly organized, updated list after list--but the ones like my family who were graciously included? The $$$ collected can be split evenly, put in the shipboard accounts, where they can be spent on main-pedi, wine (not Whine),or a nice souvenir, whatever the recepient feels they need (well, maybe a good whine is needed now and then-harhar) How does that sound to all the non-organizers out there? Do not be afraid to speak up, we are not on the ship yet so I can not make anyone walk the plank. All the little donations can add up quickly to a fair size booty...
The newest pirate mom, Frances (I have found a sword err make that forum and I am not afraid to use it!)
