I was told to ring on the 5th as that's when you can book "for real" that's 11 months out from are return date....where flying out of Manchester are you?....What was the price please?...and what is PE?.... :teeth:

Hi Lindy

Just been onto Special Assistance of Virgin holidays to request our seats cos of Ellis' allergy. I get sooooo stressed doing this and theres still no guarantees.

They have (eventually, after a lot of persuasion) put a "priority request" on blocked seats 21 abc or 21 hjk for us. Unfortunately this is only on their computer and they can change it when ever they want to and nothing is guaranteed, hence my stress levels are through the roof til we get our boarding cards. Only another 10 months of worry then!

Dont get me started on Virgin :furious: If it wasnt for the fact they fly every day I wouldnt use them.

The hilarious thing last year - Ellis' requested nut free meal on the return flight came with a sticker on it saying "Not guaranteed nut free" - how ridiculous is that :furious:

Luckily we had fed him before boarding and took a few snacks with us - thank god.

But, heres the worrying bit...because we have phoned and requested those seats it means I cannot now book online and "save" 3 seats together.

That means come check in on the morning of the flight,we could turn up, they can tell us those requested seats are no longer available and stick us anywhere and not even altogether, which is even more dangerous cos you dont know who you're sitting by and if they've eaten nuts.

ok, rant over - sorry!

Anyway, what seats did you choose? Are you in PE (PREMIUM ECONOMY) or in the cheap seats like us :rotfl:

Afeg - get online they're available and loads have gone already on our flight - Manc vs075 13th Oct. The plan looks a right mess with people having booked 3 aisle seats in a row leaving 2 seats by the window on 3 rows etc on our flight. Best of luck hope you get what you want.

Let me know what seats you get. We can party in the poor seats with you!

We couldnt upgrade to first class even if it was free :sad2: - they serve nuts up there and wont take them off the menu, even though it could kill my son - nice and considerate NOT! :furious:

The poor seats get cracker things so we're ok.

ps- I love your smilies - you'll be "!a skinny english gent" if you dont get off that treadmill and stop doing those sit ups :rotfl:

Chris you crack me up.......................... :rotfl2:

We are in the cheap seats too! :teeth: I agree PE would be nice, but to me the flight is just 8/9 nours of the holliday, and god forbid it goes down, well being in PE wont save you !!!

Karen How stressful for you, I soooooooo understand the pressure you must be under. If this helps, on the way home in Oct, there was someone on the flight who had a nut allergy. Virgin explained this over the tannoy, and said, as a result no nuts sould be served on the flight. Which I thought was a good thing. A person a few rows in front complained "loudly"...... the hostess would not get him any nuts, and he was going off on one. His wife looked so embarrasesed! Anyway on one of our numerous trips to the loo, Elouise walked past the man, and while in the queue continued to tell his wife, how rude he was !!!! I so wanted the floor to swallow me up. :rotfl:

We travel as a 3 and Virgin check in desk said this is the LESS likely party to be moved, so Im sure you will be OK.
We fly from Gatwick, we are in rom 31 HJK! :thumbsup2 We were in these seats last time, they are fine for us.

Oh I so wish we lived in the USA, and we could drive or have a short ( cheap) flight.

Got an amazing quote for the Freedom of the Seas for a week and for 14 nights cruise. Did you know in Summer 08 its coming to Europe? Not sure we would want to do this or not ? The quote are for carribean, and if we can get a good price on the flights we will be booking, asap. ( When the flights come out)

Take care all................... Linda x

Morning LL,we have the rain here this morning or should i say we have are rain, your rain and every buggers Else's rain here....
Just how much have flights gone up in the last couple of years?,i saw in yesterdays papers the amount of British visiting the USA is falling for the first time in years despite the strong pound due to "fortress USA" just how bad was this at the Airports?...

ps...spare a thought for the poor soul sat at the side of me who decides he need to say a prey while struggling with his turrets syndrome..... :rotfl2:

Hi Lindy and Chris - sorry - I really should stop calling you AFEG! - (It just makes me smile each time I write it)

All airlines will do a tannoy announcement , but it is a voluntary choice of each passenger whether they choose to eat the nuts have may have bought on board or not. They will not serve nuts to the poor seats, but Virgin refuse to stop serving nuts in the posh seats. Obviously, Posh people need nuts on a nine hour flght :furious:

I have a mountain of paperwork to fill out each time we fly with them - its almost a disclaimer of sorts, and I cannot believe the price they want to insure us :sad2: - 4 times the price of the post office last year - yep 4 TIMES! They wanted nearly £1000 for a 15 day holiday.

I think we'd prefer a caribean rather than european cruise on the Freedom. Gotta see if hubby likes this one first before we think about 2008.

Chris - we had the rain overnight too- all night :sad2: . Our bedroom is above a 4metre conservatory roof so you can imagine the noise as the rain "bullets" bounced off it. It even drowned hubbys snoring out. :rotfl:

Have you booked the flights yet? I know our flight was pretty full when we booked in October.

Well, I'm off to put my third tree up. Its only 6ft this time so it should be done in a few hours.

:wave2:

Hi - we fly out from Gatwick on 18th October in Premium Economy (PE). Can't tell you how much as Rick booked it. I think he paid for one seat and used our 'freebie' flight from Virgin AMEX, just paying the taxes. We flew PE for the first time last year and Rick loved it as he doesn't have to worry about little feet kicking the back of the chair or having a reclined seat thrust in your face - LOL.

Anyway, just need to count down the days now> :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Good Morning my friendly UK'ers. Just wondering...how many American Dollars does it cost to fly over here?

And Good Morning to the rest of our DISers.

I was thinking (after sending a rather lengthy PM to Linda) what if we all posted a favorite Holiday Family Tradition?

Here's a couple of mine and of course it concerns FOOD!!

Christmas Eve dinner is at my parents home. He have Hungarian Sausage, Paprikash Potates, Home-made rolls, Veggies, Fruit and my favorite...Kraut Maylschpeis (fried cabbage mixed with noodles). We end it up with coffee strong enough to put hair on my chest, my mom's German Christmas Cookies (some made with 200 proof rum) and my good old American Christmas Cookies.

With Chuck's family we host a dinner party and we always have a "Themed" gift exchange. This year's theme is "It's Showtime". We all buy a DVD of our favorite movie. One of course that would appeal to most. We wrap them all the same with the same bow so there is no cheating. We all pick one, trade if we want before it's opened, and then one by one we open them. We have to guess who's gift you received. My movie? "The Shawshank Redemption". I don't know why....I just love that movie. (My favorite movies are actually Christmas movies but decided just because I love them, that doesn't mean everyone does).

So everyone...please share one of your favorite traditions. this should be fun and interesting! :thumbsup2

Rick and I don't have any traditions as such apart from having roast turkey on Chrsitmas Day and cold meat and Mashed potato on Boxing Day, so can we come to you, Nancy?

Heather

PS - just thought of one - Midnight Mass on Chrsitmas Eve. I light a candle for my sister, who is no longer with us.

Our traditions:

I have to have watch "Its a wonderful life" every christmas. :goodvibes

I invite the girls round, draw the curatins, serve popcorn and icecreams etc and sit down to sob together.

Its one of my favourite movies, along with Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, willa wonka (original), forest gump, shawshank, gone with the wind to name but a few.

I like to have all my decs etc up, rezzies wrapped etc by Dec 1st, but didnt manage it this year cos Ellis is still poorly.

My last tree is now assembled. Just need to "fluff" the branches, lights, tinsel and then the last few hundred disney /travel baubles to go on.

Off to "fluff"!

:rotfl2: KAREN...i told Rosie to watch Gone with the wind (she likes the old films were as Ryan wont watch a film unless someone been decapitated within the first 5 minutes)she sat there all afternoon glued to the box and i just happened to walk in as he turns and Say's them immortal words "frankly my dear"...i looked at my beautiful baby sat there with tears strolling down her face and realised she's no baby anymore.... :)

ps...Me and Ryan pee every time we hear Forrest say "i was shot in the buttocks".... :rotfl2:

Your Christmas sounds fun, Nancy :sunny:

We don't really have any "traditions" but we usually go out to a movie on Christmas eve, then out to eat and drive around town looking at all the Christmas decorations. Last year our oldest daughter had to pick up a last minute gift, we all ended up shopping at a Walgreens at 10:30 pm. We got all giggly laughing over some of the crazy stuff for sale. We had so much fun, we might end up going back this year!

On Christmas day, I cook a ham and the usual side dishes, the kids come over about noon for the opening of gifts and eating! We usually watch Christmas Vacation while we are opening gifts, or afterwards.

Our traditions involve old cartoons like The Year Without a Santa Claus - love the Heat Miser and Cold Miser and the 24-hour Christmas Story marathon on TNT. Oh, and the Grinch!! It ain't Christmas until the Grinch steals it.

As you can all see, we have no real traditions at our house. But now I see that by not having any traditions we have, in fact, started a tradition. :teeth:

BTW, if anyone is up for it, my food review thread is finally finished. Since you were talking Gone With the Wind in earlier posts, I thought it was somewhat fitting.

Alright...back to work.

Oh, Nancy....I think we're going to be at the Boardwalk this year before the cruise...come on over and F&W it with us!! :thumbsup2
