October 2011 Car Rental Rates

YAY! I'm finally below $300!!!! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:
$277 for midsize, Oct 15-24

Check again! I am down to $182 this morning for 10/14-10/22 standard (full size at MCO). I still am getting the best rates on the VISA codes/coupon!

Anyone knows what happens if I bring the car back 2 days early?

Seems I can book 10-4 through 10-11 + 1 hour for $75 less then booking 10-4 through 10-9 + 1 hour
$131 compared to $208
Pick-up MCO
Drop off FLL

The pixie dust is falling!! My alamo rate just dropped again. Fron $171 to $111 inc taxes for full size, Oct 6-13 + 2 hrs. That's right in the area I was hoping for.

You might want to consider renting a standard size if you are at MCO. It could save a couple of bucks and since there is no Standard Size Row at MCO for Alamo, you choose from the Full Size Row.

alamo dropped another $11 over night for me, now $111 for 8 days.

have side bet w/the mr that it'll go under $100;)

my rates are still up for 10/3-7 since I have no saturday night stay but I'm hopeful since the M to F rental for the next two weeks is super cheap... fingers crossed mine drop next week!

FYI, I want to reiterate that renting on the half hour versus the hour can mean a big difference in the rate. Play around with your rental times if need be. Our flight gets in at 10:08 so I figured on 10:30 but it's $37 more if we pick up at 10:30 not 10 or 11. I read the tip on here earlier but it was pages back and I thought it was worth mentioning again!

USUALLY if you drop it off that far in advance, they charge you an extra early drop-off fee which can be quite hefty. I'm not sure I'd risk it.

Checked my rate again this morning and it dropped again!

10/1-10/11 fullsize car Alamo with free extra driver
Now $169.xx....down from $184 yesterday
Using BJs code and coupon

I looked up my reservation from last year for similiar time...last year we paid $194 for a midsize car.

I love saving money!

Alamo doesn't have a drop off fee on the reservation?

When I tried booking on Budget they show a drop off fee?

I'm not sure what to do now?:confused3

Just called Alamo, they don't have any drop off fees inless you see it on the reservation, if it's not on there there isn't any and the price you are quoted on there is the rate you pay............didn't have the guts to ask about taking the car back 2 days early and if there is an extra charge.

that's why we're here:thumbsup2

it's my understanding ( i could be wrong as i rarely rent with alamo) any insider res includes additional free driver.:confused3

just curious did u try the insiders & AA coupon to see if you come up with better rate for your rental?

Thanks Meuseman! That's another $3! I'll take it. Not much but this is getting fun watching the prices actually drop for once!

Where does this insider rate 7014667 come from?
When I sign into my insiders at Alamo it prefills with a different code?
Also it doesn't specifically say "extra driver included" under inclusive rate items.

But I do believe all insiders get a free extra driver as part of the program right?

My rate at Dollar for 10/6-14 just dropped another $13 this morning! in all, it dropped $104 since I first booked a few weeks back. It stands now at $180

No special coupons, just used their City Special rate.

that's awesome!!! Alamo is my car rental of choice, but since I'm picking up at MCO and dropping off at JAX, their rate is $665!!! :scared1:

I plugged in to return to MCO just to see and the rate is $140. *sigh*

:surfweb:

Still waiting here, but do love reading all of the positive reports!

Just waiting until my dates get closer:

Oct. 15-29!

Just got an email from Alamo. It's showing last minute rates on minivans for $175 if anyone is needing that size. Albeit these rates are only through 9/27 but may be a sign of rates to come. Full size/standard was showing $99/98 rate.

For those of you who rent through Alamo, do you go straight to the lot like you do with National's Emerald Club?

I'm considering switching to Alamo, since you all seem to be getting such good rates (and since they're the same company/they take cars from the same fleet), but if I'll have to check-in at a counter or anything, I'll stick with National.

awe-some!!! [/sing-song voice]

I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is a sign of things to come for later October (we arrive the 20th).

24 hrs before you arrive, go online and fill out a form. Then you print out a page with a bar code, zap it at the kiosk in the MCO terminal and walk to the garage and select your car from the row. There is never a line at the kiosk, because people don't use them.

Having done both, the kiosk route is 3-5 minutes more than EA, but you can still skip the counter.
