Judy, thank you for the cyber hug. I needed that.

I'm looking forward to two family weddings myself...my step-brother in August and my cousin in September. The September one is in Tucson, Arizona so we are actually going to get to go away for that one and visit a city and state we have never been to before. We are really looking forward to it.

Have a great time at the wedding! Despite the traffic you had to face to get there, it sounds like you are off to a great start with the hotel.

WE MADE IT TO HAMILTON! What was supposed to be a 4 hour drive turned into a 7 hour drive once we hit RUSH HOUR in Toronto. My cousin gets married tomorrow! Can't wait! And our hotel!!!!! Courtyard By Marriott is GORGEOUS! It's labeled as a 3 Star, but looks like a 5 Star! LOVE IT (Thanks Priceline!) This event moves us closer to our cruise date ( on my calendar anyway)

Turn your clocks forward tomorrow! Happy Weekend everyone!

What happened with work? Did they finally agree to give you off - or did you just take it? How is my buddy Tim doing :)

I was hoping to go see Alice in 3D today and now might have to "visit" at the hospital instead :( Has anyone been to see the movie yet? popcorn::

Jane that really stinks about the girl scout cookie situation - you have a year to think about it but instead of not doing it next year, when it is something you normally enjoy, you could change your system - maybe you could just have each person verify their order (and sign for it) to indicate they have what they wanted and no boxes are damaged - and make sure it is known that if it gets damaged it is up to each of them to cover the cost - that is just crazy to me - but it does remind me that I bought two boxes of girl scout cookies and haven't eaten them yet!

Jen, thanks for the bump! It is always sad to stop by and have nothing to read :surfweb:

Why going to a hospital? Is everyone o.k.?

I actually do have them sign a form when they pick up indicating how many boxes they are taking. She is claiming that her husband did not know what he was doing (he picked up instead of her) and that he signed for the wrong amount of boxes. Honestly, some of the parents are really wonderful and have always been really thankful that I am doing a job that helps raise money for the troop to use all year. It's just this one set of parents in particular and a few others who have made it less than fun for me. I will have to see how I feel in a month or two. Re-registration is in May so I would have to decide by then.

I've been looking a the FE thread. I'm starting to wonder whether or not I should sign up. I was concerned about how many families are already signed up and how I would get that many FE gifts ready, to the boat and delivered. But some of the stuff looks really great, and I think I would have fun putting something together. I will have to ask DH what he thinks. Decisions, Decisions....

I have seen the movie in 3-D and really enjoyed it. I must say I missed getting water sprayed on me and the seats that poked. My expectations of 3-D is set high thanks to Disney. What is the deal about going to the hospital. I hope everyone is OK!

As far as the girl scout cookie crap I say let one of the parents who did not want to pay for cookies eaten or damaged at their house take it over. I hate it when people do nothing but complain about the way an event was put together but if you ask them to lift a finger they will not. We had a wonderful Square Dance Weekend and the person who was putting it together each year is no longer do this because of all the complaints. The food (which was free) was not right, the hall was wrong, the caller did not do as expected, and God forgive the dancers were not as good as we should have been. It is all crap!! What has happened, we expect everyone to do for us the way we want and to do it for free!!!

I am so sorry that you were treated like that. You provide a great service to a great program for our young girls.

I have an Aunt that is in the hospital :( they just moved her to hospice so that just trumped the movie

I was debating about the FE as well and decided I didn't want to miss out - I will be sending my gfts to the ship - not sure what i will do about bringing home - but if our list gets too large we will be splitting it - I think we are going to decide that when we get our final count in August

Sorry to hear about your Aunt, but I hope that she will be doing better soon. My mom was in the hospital for three weeks in February. She is home and doing fine now. She is my usual babysitter, but she is still not up to watching my rather energetic kids yet, so I doubt I will get to see Alice 3D unless it is still playing on the ship by cruise time!

I was wondering, I know you are not supposed to ship food or drinks to the ship ahead of time, but does this hold true for candy? Like sealed bags of lollipops? I'm guessing it probably does.

Grandma4ever: That's it exactly. I don't think any of them realize how much time and work it actually is. We have thirteen girls in our troop and double that amount of parents. Since I have been doing it for three years now, I think it would be great if one of them would take a turn.

Happy Rainy Saturday! YUCK!

Anyway, we want to stay at the Hyatt MCO the night before our cruise. Any helpful hints that can help me get a better price?

TIA!!!!:cool1:

Hi,
We're staying at the Hyatt too. I reserved with the AAA rate ($159 )and purchased gift cards from Costco. The Hyatt gift cards sell for $80 and they're $100 cards. I purchased 2 for $160 and figured we will eat breakfast at the hotel too. It's very convenient. You don't even have to get your luggage, you just walk right up to the hotel and give the bellman your tickets, he gets your bags from the airport carousel and brings them up to your room.

I am so upset right now.

I am the cookie manager for my daughter's girl scout troop. I've done the job for three years and every year the job gets worse. Parents not giving me their orders on time, not picking up the cookies, not giving the money on time.

This year I had all the same problems and in addition parents being annoyed when I called to remind them to pick up their orders (it's hard to store 800 boxes of cookies in my house). One woman was downright rude to my husband when she came to pick her boxes. A few weeks ago, one parent claimed I gave her two boxes she didin't order and she wanted to exchange them (I triple checked the order and she got exactly what was on her form), but I gave her two of my daughter's boxes and told her I would take the two she didn't want and get rid of them somehow. When I picked them up, one of them was open! The cookies weren't eaten, but she claimed her toddler attacked the box. I had to keep that box, because I couldn't sell it. Not a big problem, since they happened to be my son's favorite.

This same woman just dropped off her money and guess what? It's $7.00 short. Yep, she's not paying me for the two boxes I exchanged for her cause she is claiming I shorted her two boxes. She seems to have forgotten that I gave her two for the two she gave me.:sad2:

I could call her on it, but honestly, I don't think its worth it for the $7 bucks. Plus, our original troop manager actually quit when this same woman's husband called to threaten her for daring to suggest that their daughter was not always behaving appropriately at the meetings.

I feel really taken advantage of. Needless to say, I will not be volunteering to do this again next year.:sad1: Can I go on vacation now?

I hate this! I have volunteered to run lots of things over the years, and there are always a privaleged few who think the rules for all apply to everyone BUT them. :sad2: When I run across someone who is that "special" I won't give them what they want- I don't indulge them or their demands (of course I'm talking about when they are wrong). It's always so sad to me that good people volunteer for good reasons, but then are treated so BADLY by the ones who do nothing. Except complain. And cause more work and aggravation. So sorry you had such a difficult experience while you were doing such a good thing.

FWIW, the girl scout cookie leader problems are legendary! My girlfriend was the cookie Mom for a few years- some women would pull into her driveway, pop the trunk of their mercedes, and expect her to load all the boxes into the car! :scared1: Or deliver them to their homes! :sad2:

She had a good time telling them all where they and their cookies could go. :rotfl2: :woohoo:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm in between getting ready for my upcoming ABD "Backstage Magic" vacation (coming up in 366 hours:woohoo:!) so here goes my quick post response / update:

" PJ Breakfast is an activity where those who want meet at a set time and place and eat breakfast in public in our PJ together. Can be a lot of fun"

Ok....on the PJ breakfast, for those who want to sign up, please let me know your preference (AND I NEED & WILL KEEP AN UPDATED LIST) of either a sit down breakfast or a buffet style breakfast.
If your preference is sit down breakfast, then I need you to please pm me or post here your rotation dining time (early or late) and your name as I then need to forward this onto DCL. Please keep in mind that I don't know if this will change your rotation dining so I need to find this out. Just a bear with me on this one (gheesh! where's my Dr. Pepper!).
If it is a buffet style, please let me know your preferences and I will also keep an updated listing as well.

As we get closer (oh..say deadline by approx May or June), I will then give out a final answer based upon the majority of the DISsers who gave posted their preferences. Hope this method is ok with ya - hey I am just the messenger but yes - I do welcome suggestions.

1) Dizney-cruiser :The time ashore (Sunday) at Key West is 12:30 - perhaps a PJ breakfast could work then? (at Goofy pool). -- (time?).

P.S. Just check out the first post, Janice (Disney-Cruiser) has done a wonderful job summarizing everything there as a quick & easy point of reference. No big decisions made yet, aside from Dis-o-Treat which is on Monday 11/1 at 10 AM (we have not finalized the format of that get together yet). Ok...if I have missed anyones name or "Goofed" up something (Goofy is my fav character) please let me know as I plan on referencing this post from now on as the list grows.

Ok - back to my thoughts of Hollywood and A.B.D.:cloud9:.

I will catch up with all of you again with updates but again, feel free to sign up as it's a fun way to mingle and get to know your fellow DISsers.:goodvibes

Dizney-Cruiser, Yes, I did get the weekend off Officially, no thanks to my supervisor though. I called a girl who was still on the schedule but has had shifts in months (she's nursing student who was sort of there on an "Call as needed basis", but in a few months has never returned phone calls.) Well she did return my phone call, and did agree to pick up my shifts for me! So all is well on that front. I think I'm quitting that job in June anyways. I run a full time home daycare, so the partime weekend thing has me working virutally 7 days a week, I'm getting worn out, lol. The nurse I work with, her DH works for the UN and has been based in Toronto for quite a while, so they've decided to move there permantly in when school finishes for this year. I figure, I'll leave about the same time (it'll be no fun without her :).

My Cousin is now in the Bahama's at a new Sandals Resort, for her Honeymoon.
Tim is Great, my little Video game player. He couldn't play during his weekend away at my/his friends, so the only thing he wants to do since being home is play Rachet and Crank on PS3.... HMMM I think I'll have to set time limits on this now, lol.
I'm going to have him in Swim lessons all summer in hopes he becomes a little more comfortable in the water at the least, and learn to actually swim at the most, so he'll be ok with our Captain Marvin's Excrusion. He did have a NICE snuggle with me last night as we watched a movie. He's my baby, and I'm glad he's still small and light enough for me to easily pick up and hold as I know that won't last much longer. I gave my 17 yr old a hug last
Wednesday as we sent him through Security at the airport, on his way to his Europe trip. He was stiff as a board and didn't really hug back (not a manly thing to do in front of his classmates I suppose):scared1:

podsnel: Those are exactly the same sort of problems I have been having over the years. I think my time as the troop cookie manager has drawn to a close.

Kris: I have not yet been to Serenity Bay and I am really hoping I get the chance this time. Oh, and we are hoping to make it to the Meet and Greet, so please sign us up. My only concern was that we are using DCL transport from WDW and last time we did this, we did not get on the ship until well after 1:00 p.m. I especially want to go because I am hoping my daughter will get the chance to meet a few of the DISer's kids so she could start making some new friends early.

Judy: Did your cousin go to Sandals Emerald Bay? I've been getting emails about it (we went to Sandals Royal Bahamiam a few years ago) and it looks beautful.

The Nor'easter that swept through here really got us good. We have been without electric, heat or hot water since 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. We "camped out" at home for the last two nights, but I think we are going to my mother's house this afternoon until power is restored. I had to toss all the food in the fridge (thankfully, I hadn't gone food shopping yet!) and the kids have been sleeping on the floor in our room because their bedrooms upstairs are extremely dark.

So far, March has not been a good month. Cannot wait for October! :goodvibes

Hi guys! :)

We are back from the MK...it was quite busy there yesterday. Way busier than we are used to! The crowd calendar said it was a "7" but I think it was probably more like an "8". We got there right after rope drop, and by the time we got back to Dumbo it was already a 30 minute wait. Standby on Space Mountain was 140 minutes by early afternoon (2 hrs 20 minutes!?!?!)..so glad that was the first fastpass we got. In fact many rides went 101 yesterday, we saw the Haunted Mansion, the Speedway, Space Mountain, the TTA all down. We happened upon Space right as it was opening back up after a 101 so I decided to run in on standby.....big mistake. Even with the crowds though we got to do most everything with the exception of HM which had bad lines all day (45 minutes!) when it wasn't down. But I figure we'll do that for MNSSHP in Oct anyway.

The kids had a great time though! Sarah was so cute trying to grab things in Philharmagic and in a trance in IASW (but aren't we all? LOL!)

It's very exciting to think next time we will be at MK will be right before the cruise!!!

Yes, Emerald Bay is exactly where they have gone. Apparently, they are given cell phones or walkie talkies to page their own personal drink server? THey can request he bring drinks to them where ever they are in the resort (room, pool side ect...).

The weather while we were in Hamilton/Brantford was horrendous. Constant downpour of rain and Extremely High Winds. While driving between venues, we could really feel the van being pushed around by the wind. It was scary at times. Thankfully all her events were indoors (wedding, photo's and reception).
Sorry to hear about your power situation. I just saw that on the news this morning too/ or was it CNN online? Your situation reminds me of 12 years ago. During our now famous ICE STORM OF 1998 we were without heat and hydro for 12 days. I had a 5 month old at the time. The army was sent out to various areas to hook up and rotate around the neighbourhood, power generators and help remove trees that had fallen onto houses and across roadways. We camped out until we lost the use of the phones. THats when I panicked and went to stay at the neighbours who had their own generator, thus constant backup power. After all that rain in Hamilton, we awoke yesterday morning to a white out snowfall! Which turned to rain again as we were checking out of the hotel. Weird weather the world has been having this year!

How long will your son be in Europe? Yea, I can imagine there being a difference between his hug in front of friends - as oppossed to Tim's! Enjoy them while you can!

I'm glad that you were able to get the coverage to enjoy your time away - and it sounds like a good plan to end the job in June. Will your day-care get busier at that time? (Do your schools take an 8 week summer break as they do in most of the USA?)

I am in NJ and while we have had non-stop-rain all weekend - we did not lose electricity - ironically - most of my town did so we some how lucked out!

We are on the south shore of Long Island and are generally the first to lose services when this kind of weather hits. I always keep the house stocked with flashlights, batteries, candles & matches!
