Ocean city maryland

Virginia Beach is working hard to class up the tourist area and it is working.

We went to Virginia beach last year the last week of June. We found the beach to be pristine and not to crowded:). We really enjoyed our trip to VB! Williamsburg was also a short drive away and we went there for a day trip as well. Enjoy!

OCMD is our closest beach (6 hour drive), so we usually do a 3 day weekend trip there every couple of years. I'm kind of surprised by the comments saying that it's "trashy". I would consider it a blue collar type of town, for working class people. That being said, the hotels/motels aren't cheap. We have a motel that we like near the end of the boardwalk (clean, but not fancy) that is usually around $160 for each weekend night. The big high rise hotels further up the boardwalk are more expensive.

I'm not a "beach person" really, because I am very fair and burn easily. A couple of hours a day sitting on the beach is all that I can handle. There's a lot of stuff to do in OC that doesn't just involve laying on the beach.

Pay no attention to the uppity people who say OC is trashy.(A dig against the people going there by the way). :rotfl2: Uppity people on the Budget Boards. :rotfl2:

I wouldn't call Ocean City or Virginia Beach trashy either -- but they are busy, crowded beaches. A couple years ago, a group of friends and I rented a house in OC through Coldwell Banker. It was a great weekend trip -- I would recommend going to Assateague Island for a less crowded beach, and it's not too far from OC.

Yep. Hate it, too. We went with my husband's parents a few times when our first DS was little. The last time was a few years ago. They got the hair-brained idea to go over the 4th. Their timeshare was Sunday-Sunday, but DH and I packed up on Wednesday and haven't been back since.

Not a fan either. We also went when my DS was little and with husband's parents and his sister and her family. :scared: It wasn't a fun trip and that was the last time we ever went on vacation with his family---nothing about the vacation was relaxing or fun. Anyhow, Ocean City, MD was very expensive like others are saying. And, it felt like a long 6 hour ride just to get to a beach right in NJ where we live anyway. If my memory serves me correctly, the condo that we all rented, we paid $800 each, which means it was $2400 for ONE week... I didn't plan the trip or else I would have never even considered spending that much.

Wildwood in NJ is so much nicer- the beach, the boardwalk, everything!!

This made me laugh! So true...

We go to OCMD every summer and we love it. I wouldn't call it trashy as a general rule. Hell, there are plenty of "trashy" people at WDW too. That said, I think it's true that its almost as expensive to go there as Disney (minus tickets). We are staying in a 2 bedroom condo this summer and got a "deal" at 279 per night. It's called Marigot beach condos and is owned and right next door to the Clarion hotel on 100th street. You get all of the amenities of the condo plus the clarion. They have entertainment for the kids and adults everyday (bands etc). They even have waitresses that serve food and drinks on the beach (yummy).

Virginia beach is improving but we certainly don't think it's up to OCMD yet, not even close.

Didn't care for it at all. Mind you we are from NJ and since moving to south jersey, we love Ocean City NJ. it is a great family resort town and a dry town. We took a day trip to OC MD and walked the boardwalk. Some gou in his early 20s came ont to the boardwalk holding a pair of ladies lacy thong panties asking whose they were. This was in the afternoon. We decided this just wasn't the place for us. Just didn't feel it. DS20 is so used to OC NJ that going to some other nj beaches he hasn't liked them

I forgot about Wildwood, NJ. Can someone report how things are there post Hurricane Sandy?

:lmao: well they call Myrtle Beach "redneck riviera" so take that as you will. I will be vacationing at the redneck riviera in 2 weeks :)

As much as I love the beach and doing nothing, I do get bored and want activities as well. Ocean City, VA Beach and Myrtle Beach deliver. I know many people love the Outer Banks and Nags Head but I can't go there. Not enough to do.

I live in MD and have not been in 25 years. Some people love it and go every year, I've found that the cost of one week in Ocean City is the same as one week in FL including airfare. For me it was too crowded. The water too cold and beach too hot. The hotels way too expensive.

However please consult those that love going there.

:thumbsup2 OC is VERY EXPENSIVE. We literally spent 48 hours there once for my son's sand soccer tournament and spent 800 dollars. :scared1: Not a fan of OC and we live in MD. :rotfl: Not a lot to do....the usual boardwalk, go carts, mini golf stuff. I feel like OC is run down. We prefer the gulf coast.....

We live near DC and rarely go to OC. We think the hotels are overpriced and the restaurants below average. In a pinch we will spend a few weekdays, never during the busy weekends. We stay at the Francis Scott Key motel, not oceanfront.

We prefer a beachfront house in Sandbridge, VA near Virginia Beach or Wildwood Crest, NJ. We have not been back to Wildwood since Sandy and don't know the condition it is currently in.

Lately we have been going to Florida. We find it cheaper (with airfare) and the water is warmer.

I live in md and grew up going to ocmd.
I have many great memories of ocmd. I still go every year for a weekend.
We now go to myrtle beach every year. The close drive of ocmd I like but I like the cost and fun family things at myrtle beach
If you go to ocmd look at the sea watch hotel on 115th st.
Stayed there all the time. Really fun and good for kids or young teens.
The boardwalk is great and the water park at jolly rodger is excellent.

Lots of eye candy in skimpy attire flaunting their assets, so yes it is trashy after all. Not the place for gramma :thumbsup2

That's not only in oc, they have that in Rehoboth, Dewey and Bethany. The only thing you need to beware of OP is if you stay in Rehoboth it does cater to the gay community. To me it's normal because I work in Rehoboth but I know some people may not e comfortable with it.

We spend a week in OC every July. Over the years we have also stayed in VA Beach, Rehobeth, Dewey, and Wildwood. I have to laugh because these places all have the same type of people. :rotfl2: One is no trashier then the other.

Our favorite hands down is OCMD. We stay right on the boardwalk on 17th St at the Holiday Inn & Suites. Yes, OC is expensive for the nicer hotels. We pay about $425 a night and that is with an AARP discount. The hotel is very nice though and well worth it. It has 3 pools, one being a small water park type pool. I like being located right on the boardwalk but not too close to the inlet as that gets mobbed.

MY now 14 y/o likes OCMD better then WDW. LOL I just like the relaxing days on the beach. :thumbsup2

My mom is in her 70s and loves OCMD. LOL There are just bikinis. You will see that at any beach. Never seen a thong at OC. :confused3

Hi Daisy!

I stay at this hotel over July 4th every year! We've been staying there since it opened. But I usually book with priority club points - that almost 500 a night with taxes gets rough.

I think this hotel has the best location - close to the inlet, close to Assateague and right on the boardwalk.

This said, there are a LOT of trashy places in OC, and a lot of great places to eat, play and stay.

And - I am 'grandma' age and I wear my swimsuit on the beach with no problem. Lots like me there. not sure if I'm eye candy for Mikehn though......

.

We stayed there for many a years back when we were younger and only had one child. It's right across from the northside park, ocean side, walking distance to a lot of things. And had great customer service! It's one of the last old motels left in ocean city. So sad they are almost gone...

Ok, I live and work in Ocean City. We have all types of people here from trashy to super rich. It's all in what you make of it. It can be expensive, but it can be cheap. No one says you have to eat out every night.

If you come here in vacation, don't come before June. The ocean doesn't warm up until July and the kids here for their senior weeks have gone. Stay in a condo north of 28th street. The beach has its drop offs in some places and different places every year based off of dear old Mother Nature and what kind of storms we've had over the winter.

Because we live here we don't vacation here, but we do love the amenities of the town. The clean beaches, boardwalk, seafood, miniature golf, water park, etc....
