Ocean city maryland

Hey I live here in Ocean Pines just outside of Ocean City! Right now is the most wonderful time of the year to be here. The "trashy" element and the "June bugs" have gone for the season.

The beach is wide open and beautiful and the ocean is finally warm enough to really enjoy. The Boárdwalk and restaurants are not crowded the Sunfest a huge craft festival is in 2 weekends no more relaxing place to be! Hotèls are all now offering off season rates!

Waiting for Nov. to come to Disney!

:lmao: well they call Myrtle Beach "redneck riviera" so take that as you will. I will be vacationing at the redneck riviera in 2 weeks :)

As much as I love the beach and doing nothing, I do get bored and want activities as well. Ocean City, VA Beach and Myrtle Beach deliver. I know many people love the Outer Banks and Nags Head but I can't go there. Not enough to do.

I thought that was Destin, Florida? Hmm guess it depends who you ask.:lmao:

I am like you, Love the beach just not too much of it. That is why we like to cruise! Perfect amount with the entertainment built in.

My friend was just telling me today about her summer trip to Ft. Myers Beach in FL. She said that she spent $50 more for a week in Fort Myers Beach (condo cost $350) including airfare, rental car, and condo than she spent for a condo alone in OCMD!!! I would choose any of the other beaches mentioned before I would choose OCMD. JMHO.

I grew up in MD but live in Maine now. We LOVE Ocean City! We used to go every year, and meet family there. Now we go every couple of years. It can be expensive but I wouldn't call it trashy. If you go the end of June beginning of July it will be crowded especially with the graduated Seniors, so avoid that. We used to stay at the Sea Nymph on 17th Street through Caldwell Banker. It was one block from the Ocean/Boardwalk, had a pool and parking. It was further enough down to be out of the way of the partiers. You can also stay at the end of Ocean City, near the Delaware line and it is much quieter. Assateague Island is a not to miss! It is amazing to see the wild ponies and the beach is nice. If you rent a condo with a kitchen you save on meals. I don't think it is really expensive myself. We eat breakfast and lunch and most dinners in our condo. We hit the boardwalk early for some junk food and back to the room or the beach. You can fly kites, play ball/frisbee all sorts of stuff on the beach after 5pm. And they do have free concerts and movies too if you look at the schedule. I think it is like any beach town, it can be busy and expensive, but if you plan it right and do the free things it can be a lot of fun.

We rent a house or condo in O/C often and have never seen a trashy party scene. People rave about Bethany but I didn't think there was much to do there. We like mini golf, the boardwalk, water parks and walking to restaurants, so O/C is perfect for our family. It all depends what you are looking for.

We have done both. When in OCMD, we like the Princess Royale. It is a high rise on the ocean side. There are 1-2 (maybe some 3?) BR units with kitchens. There is also an indoor pool if the weather doesn't cooperate.

However, we MUCH prefer NJ. We daytrip to OCNJ to do the boardwalk (need our Schriver's salt water taffy) and ride rides, but stay in the Stone Harbor/Avalon area. SO family friendly! My kids are all mid-late teens and I wouldn't hesitate to have them go into town by themselves. Many multi-generational groups! This will be our 10th summer going there. (We took a few years off when we moved to AR.). We've gone every year since Sandy and it has been fine. Many improvements have been made to our favorite restaurants and more and more houses are going up on stilts. I highly recommend it!

If you decide on Rehobeth, WATCH YOUR PARKING! They give parking tickets in the amount of time it takes you to leave your car and go to the parking meter and purchase your ticket. I'm not joking. We got a ticket and fought it and won, but as part of our case, we timed the enforcement. It took literally only 2 minutes for them to issue a ticket. They totally take advantage of vacationers. Very cute downtown, but predatory on parking.

Grew up going to OCMD. I have family that live there and own a business on the boardwalk. I can see where some would say it has trashiness. Last year I was there in July and it was ridiculous. Alot of younger 20's came in and were sleeping in their cars, leaving trash throughout the streets, standing in giant groups in people's way on the boardwalk playing loud music, basically acting like idiots. However, the OCPD did a great job of getting them out. I think you could find this anywhere to be honest. I happen to love OC. I guess it's in my blood. There's plenty of family friendly things to do. Amusement rides and arcades on the boardwalk. Or Jolly Roger water park and amusement rides. Tons of mini golf. If you have kids and they like waterpark I highly recommend Frontier Town for the day, my kids LOVE it there. And you can't beat the price. If you go during a holiday or a special event then obviously it will be more busy than any other time. Renting a hotel room will definitely cost you more than if you rented a condo or townhouse for a week. We've done this through VRBO and it was great. If you decide to go, make sure you get some Fractured Prune Donuts!

My daughter and I took at trip to Virginia Beach for a gymnastic competition in Feburary. Let me say, I was VERY IMPRESSED! There was so much to do in Virginia Beach even for February. Some of our friends were going on a whale watch in the Ocean, there's an aquarium near the convention center. Lots of quaint cute little shops. It acutally reminded me of Bethany. But with more. I want to do a weekend trip here again. If you decide to try Virginia Beach I would recommend the Holiday Inn Express right on the beach. I've never been to VA beach in the summer months so I can't comment on how it is then...

We went for the first time at the end of last summer and thought it was great. Most of the crowds had left, so it was a great for us. We stayed at Francis Scott Key Resort and the Hampton Inn. We would stay at both again if the price is right. We didn't notice higher food prices, but we live in the tri-state area, so are a bit numb to dining prices. I have to say if I had read a lot of the reviews on the first page, I may have been turned away, but I'm glad we went and saw it for ourselves.
