Obesity epidemic and WDW??

I didn't read that post as particularly mean. I hate coming into a thread late because there's likely been worse things posted that I haven't seen!

I do know that there are people out there who help others lose weight that get really strict and almost "rough" with their clients. It seems to work for some. :confused3

I dont mind someoneo being "rough" with the person that has employed them to help them loose weight but I was simply saying that someone that has this kind of attitude towards overweight people may want to find another job it really cant be very enjoyable it seeing them upsets her so much on vacation i cant imagine that she would enjoy 40 hours of work a week working with thes people is all

Lean meats, (no not those that are fried, soaked in gravy and sauces), Veggies NOT slathered in butter, cream sauces, etc. salads without cheese, bacon, fried chicken, etc. on them. I could go on and on about their "healthy choices" that aren;t healthy at all.

I don't work 40 hours a week, sorry. And i don't always work directly with people every day, certain days the other nutritionists and i switch out and one takes clients, the other may develop plans for clients, etc. And my job is lovely! I get to help people eat healthier and lose weight, and increase their life span.

Did you know you can make special orders!! You could ask for veggies without butter or meats without sauce.

I don't think it's disney's responsibility to control what you eat. It's up to you and if you don't like it then don't go to disney. Or go and make all of your own meals!!

First of all, what gives you the right, OP, to be so darn judgmental on what people consume at WDW? It doesn't matter your profession, someone's life is theirs, not yours. If someone wants to drink a 40oz. Coke, let them; if someone wants to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day, let them; if their diet consists of pot roast and butter, so be it... it's NOT your place to say OR judge.

Furthermore, as PPs have said, they're on vacation. I eat very well at home but while on vacation, it's the only time I drink soda, it's nearly the only time I eat things like cookies, cake, cheese and pork. I don't want to think of someone staring me down and counting the times I go back to the buffet... which is usually about 5 times as I can't have things touch on my plate so there's less on my plate.

Also, is this your first time to WDW? Portion sizes have gone down a lot as they used to be at least 1/3 larger than they are now.

And finally, it's all about demand. If you replace everything at WDW with healthy stuff, and by that I mean actually healthy not their version of healthy in turkey dogs and wheat buns, then nobody would eat there. I would, along with most everyone, go and eat off-site.

And... there are plenty of people perfectly happy being overweight.

I am one of them as well. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism after gaining 40 lbs in 3 months. During that time I was eating 1500 calories a day and working out 3 times a week.

Now, 2 years later, I have JUST found the right balance of medication to be able to lose weight and have lost 15lbs.

Awesome!

Autoimmune diseases tend to clump together, unfortunately. :( I got stuck with PCOS and gluten intolerance, which created a vitamin D deficiency so bad I ended up in a wheelchair. Once I was off gluten for a while, found a good carb/protein ratio, and started taking vitamin D (and some other vitamins/supplements) my health returned and it's great. :cloud9: I've started losing weight, but it's not something I care about or am working on - I'm just happy to be able to be healthy and active again (I love tennis, yoga, and swimming).

You do know at most WDW places you order the food the way you want it right? You can order a salad without cheese, bacon etc. Or failing that if YOU choose not to eat those things and they are already on your salad, you can set them aside and throw them away. Same with veggies order them plain and you can order plain grilled chicken at lots of places.

I have a question for you. As someone who works with overweight people, do you call them fat to their face? Or do you just some on here and talk about the fat people you saw on your vacation.

Even as a nutritionist, it's not your job or business to watch people at buffets!!!!

You can request no butter, you can request meat broiled, you can request no cheese.

It is not Disney's responsibility to educate the general public on how to make healthy eating choices.

And again, one week of some unhealthy eating is not going ruin your life.

Someone elses choices are exactly that - THEIR CHOICES.
You would have such a hard slog on your hands ensuring every food place in town only serves healthy items. Start with your home town. Go into a supermarket and get cracking! Stop at every fast food joint and get busy! Disney has to have choices available for every person, I guarantee Disney has healthy choices available even in their buffets!
Each person gets to Choose what they would like on vacation. Someone's size has nothing to do with their food choices one week of the year. I admit to eating more on vacation, especially desserts - I do not do it every day! But I can put away some food and I am a wee person in height and weight. Maybe I have a high metabolism? Not to say I don't make balanced choices most of the year but I enjoy letting loose on vacation! And my size is only a small factor in my health and well being. I know plenty people who are healthier than me and they are bigger than me.
Also, you cannot judge someone on their size, you don't know what kind of lifestyle they lead or what underlying medical conditions, or even how their emotional or mental state may be its not so easy to give up a habit or lifestyle and they have to WANT to make changes - that is, if it is even possible for them to do that.
I think that it is great you have the ability to help those who ASK for it or are referred to you but you cannot make assumptions and you will offend many!

As my Weight Watcher leader always says, restaurants generally have kitchens in them. So you ask politely if you can get that chicken grilled instead of fried. Ask if you can get those veggies steamed dry. As far as salads go, my I ALWAYS tells the server what I want and don't want on my salad, and they are usually very happy to oblige. Disney is very good about letting you speak with the chef if you have concerns over the menu. I've seen it more than once. It's true, some restaurants may not allow for the menu changes, but if you don't ask, how would you know? That's why I think the "food porn" sites on here are great! I know what my choices are/look like ahead of time, and can go in prepared.

Normally, a thread discussing dining options at WDW would be moved to the Restaurants board. But seeing how contentious this thread has gotten, I'm just going to close it here.

If you'd like to discuss ways to stay healthy, please visit our W.I.S.H. board.
