The new pastor, riffing on the rap music industry:
Shorter version - it's not the rappers' fault. The corporate "man" makes him say those bad words.
Actually, this is somewhat true. The music labels figured out that albums with curse words, that were controversial or that helped to promote stereotypes sold much more.
So they started signing artists that were more controversial and promoting them while underpromoting those artists already on their rosters that were "clean". They still do it today. And they still make much more money off of those same types of artists.
Also, since that time, some of the population think that an artist cussing in their music makes them much more "credible".
I agree with you on 9/11, the old adage, if we don't recognize our history we are doomed to repeat it comes to mind... How about we stay home and take care of our own instead of sticking our noses out where they aren't wanted. We go out espousing the views of Democracy when the world watches and laughs at ours, it looks quite bad from the International looking in. God forbid we should ever think about why we are perceived the way we are in the Middle East. We armed them, we initially trained them, we put Saddam in power, we forget all that.... history isn't something to be forgotten.
And I'm not going to forget Obama's 20 year history of sitting by and supporting a man who spews hate on the pulpit.
For those who question Pastor Wright's sermon i would like to know in all honesty how many of you can honestly say you never used the N word or called someone of another race a disparaging remark before?
What about your family members? Do they embrace every race with open arms, or do they judge people by the color of their skin? You might not want to admit it, but I'm pretty sure at some of those family gatherings the N word and other racist remarks are said without any regret on their parts.
Knowing that some of your family members feel this way, would you disown them? Would you stop loving them because you don't agree with their views? I doubt it!
That said, I appreciate the man Obama is. I appreciate the fact that he won't let thee anti obama's critics dictate to him who he should associate with! And for those who say you're judged by the company you keep, do all of your friends have stellar reputations and do they have skeleton free closets?
I have never uttered the N word. I find it absolutely repulsive. When I was a child, I may have said some racist remarks without realizing what I was saying. But since I learned better when I was still a child, I haven't that I'm aware of. As for making a disparaging remark to someone of another race, probably. But it sure as heck wasn't because of their race.
Family and friends no, I don't stop loving them. Some are a bit racist. They are a product of how they grew up. But, over the years, luckily some of their views have changed.
But, I also have made my views very well known to everyone. From the beginning. Not when someone called me on it.
Walking away from family is extremely different from walking away from a church and a pastor. I can't understand why people can't figure this out. You are not born to a church and pastor like you are born to your family. The church is not responsible for your upbringing. Your family is.
You can walk away from your church if they are not teaching what you believe and never look back. You just might need your family in the future.
The fact remains that Obama said and did nothing until now when he was called out on it. To me, it states "I have no backbone for my beliefs and will say something only when it's necessary".
Why do they get a free pass???...hate is hate!
Exactly!
Reverse discrimination is not the answer. Why is it suddenly OK for Obama to support it?
Yes, for years our country has been working to eliminate the racial divide in this country. While things may not be 'perfect', progress has been made on both sides and our country has come a long way from only a few decades ago, while we continue to work on more issues that need to be addressed.
Unfortunately, Pastor Wright was not promoting a positive message of 'hope', to show his parishoners how we could all move forward, but instead, was promoting greater divide. If the racial divide is to be fixed, messages from inciters like Wright and others must be stopped. They are not helping the problem, but are working to sustain a riff with the races in this country.
Precisely!
No, I wouldn't but I just wondered why wasn't there all this type of outrage in the media and in the public when white and more "mainstream" figures said racist, homophobic or rude remarks in the past. I want people to have the same indignance for those others who say things which are out of hand across the board, not just against the ones you don't personally like. To me it seems those who don't care for Obama in the first place are really jumping on this issue, but I am just wondering would they jump on Wright so fervently if he was not tied to Obama? I remember hearing what Falwell said after 9/11, it's not like that put an end to his career people wrote him off but no one seemed to call for his head or anything.. Some people can say over the top things and get away with it, if you can't see that then you're kidding yourself.
But, I do have the same problems for those others who say things which are out of hand.
And, As I previously stated, I was going to vote for Obama.
But, as a person who believes in standing up and denouncing all racism no matter who it comes from, I cannot vote for a person who will not do that.
McCain himself brought up Hagee and pointed out that just because someone supporter him that didn't mean he shared all of that person's positions. Why is that so hard for many of you to let it go. OR
Is it so hard to let go of this situation, because you just got to have a reason to hate this guy.
It's not about Wright's support of Obama. It's about Obama's support of a racist pastor.
I'm not ready for a man to be president who chooses a blatent racist as a close advisor and then lies about his association. Has nothing to do with being a black man. Honest enough for ya!
My view exactly!
In my honest opinion, that's what this is about. McCain can have the most shady supporters, that he calls his "spiritual guide", McCain's "spiritual guide" can condem gay people, Muslims, catholics, and blame 9-11 on America for allowing homosexuality, but McCain isn't "forced" to prove his loyalty to America, or reject or denouce them. It's such a double standard. A double standard placed on Obama ONLY - WHY? What makes Obama different? HMMMMMMM?
I'm certainly not voting for him either. I used to like him. Several years ago before he sold out to Bush and his cronies. Which include those so called religious men.
And there are not ministers/community leaders spewing hate for gays in pulpits every Sunday around this country?
Yes there are. Which is one of the reasons why I, as a Christian, will not attend church.
Not in any of the churches I've attended. And we have a choice to sit and accept that or we can walk out and find a church that preaches our same values and beliefs. Obama made his choice, he stayed.
But this is what so many fail to understand. What this preacher said was NOT BEING SAID EVERY SUNDAY! Why do so many fail to understand that?
So? I guess that makes it OK?
I find it completely unacceptable that it was considered acceptable to preach hate even once a year.
Hate is hate. Pure and simple. Preaching it is never acceptable to me.
As for my feelings all being a cover for an unwillingness to vote for a Black man, that itself is a racist comment. It implies that if someone is questioning Obama's fitness for POTUS, they are racist....and that seems to imply his only qualification for POTUS
is his race. Because if we're questioning something else (honesty, ability to surround himself with reliable advisors, being able to take a stand against the crowd) then that should be fair game for a candidate of any race. Maybe some of us are ready for a Black man, but it's just not
THIS particular Black man. Do we have to "take" the first one who stands a good chance of getting the nomination just because he's Black, even if we have serious reservations about him? Isn't
THAT racist? If you strongly support Obama instead of Hillary Clinton, then by your reasoning, you must certainly be sexist. You are just not ready for a female president. Go on, be honest.
Nooooo.....Sometimes it's just about the individual.
