Speak for your own religion.
Wrong! I was going to vote for the guy. Heck, even as recent as Super Tuesday I said I would gladly vote for Obama if he became the nom. I thought he would make a good president. I was not head over heels over him like some are, but I did like him.
Over the last few weeks and especially the last few days my support for him has gone down to Zero. He has lost my support. He has shown me he is nothing but a politican yet he says he isn't. He will say and do anything to get elected. I do not trust him anymore. Is it because he is black? Nope, Obama just happens to be black. I could care less if he were white, Hmong or green --- he lost my vote, plain and simple.
His speech, while very good, told me nothing I did not already know. Yes, I have seen prejudice first hand. I grew up in the inner city, I went to an inner city high school. Don't tell me I don't know what prejudice is.
I have seen prejudice affect my family.
Yes, I may be white but I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I grew up in a single family home, we didn't have much. Yes, I sometimes went down the wrong path ---- but I never made excuses why I went down the wrong path. I made those choices. Every one, black, white, red, yellow and brown has a CHOICE to make about their life! There are some that use excuses why they can not success in life. It successing in life easy? No, for a lot of people it is a struggle, but you just keep on fighting to the top!
People like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Rev. Wright make excuses for the black community!
That is why I 100% admire Bill Cosby --- he tells it like it is.
The thing is I know what is in my heart, I am not a rasict. I like all people of every race.
But if the Obama supporters want to believe I will not vote for Obama now because I just realized he was black, so be it. It really doesn't matter to me.
I guess I will have to tell my black uncle the reason he isn't voting for Obama either is because Obama is black.
What I meant is that "Issues like homosexuality, abortion and stem cell research " are NOT inherently religious issues. They are issues that SOME religions teach are wrong. But not all religions and not even "most religions" feel that they are wrong. Sorry if I was unclear. What religions teach hate?
Sounds a bit like a personal attack to me.
ABSOLUTELY! My church is one such church.
If you read my previous post, I gave Bill Cosby credit. He is telling blacks to stop blaming everyone and make a better life for yourselves. Nobody is going to hand you anything, but make the best of what is given. My white son will be going to college this fall (I am paying full tuition) while according to college records the average "African American" will be paying 25% of what I will pay for my son. Stop whining about opportunity and educate yourselves while you get a virtual free ride.
It's been 140 years since slavery ended (in the south), 40+ years of affirmative action. How long are we going to blame "whitey" for all their problems? My wife teaches high school to "inner city kids". It's a joke, they have no ambition, no family support, no sense of trying to improve their lives. But Obama's preacher is right, it's "whitey" trying to keep the blacks down. As much as I abhor Bill Cosby for the Tawana Brawley mess (which happened in my backyard) I applaud his efforts to blame the blacks for the majority of the blacks problems. You've had ample time and extra opportunity to help yourselves. If millions of black people can make great things out of their lives, then the ones who don't should be blamed, not everyone else. I might have read it here or on another forum but Obama is like the 16 year old boy trying to get in to your 15 year old daughters pants. He tells you what you want to hear then when you get pregnant he runs away. He reminds me of the wizard in The Wizard of Oz. "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain." I can't believe that there are that many people buying into what he is saying. He says what you want to hear, nothing more, with no ability to actually do what he says he will do. Jim Jones did the same thing in Jamestown and we all know how that ended. I am truly scared that this man might actually be president.
Lack of income/affirmative action. Is it my fault that these kid's parents chose to not educate themselves and get decent paying jobs? I don't blame the kids, I blame the parents (as Bill Cosby does). How many years of cheap college education is needed before someone says enough is enough? Will my grandkids be in the same position as my kids who are in the same position as I was? I would say 80% of the minority students in my college got a virtual free ride. The worst part was they felt it was owed to them, as were passing grades. Stop blaming everyone but yourselves people.
Just remember, "affirmative action" is racism, just in a form that is palatable to minorities.
Never said it was just blacks, I said minorities (and yes there are lazy people of every race but thanks for putting words in my mouth). Like I said before before, my wife teaches at an inner city high school, so yes I do hear about them blaming everything on everyone else. I'm not living in some cornfield in Iowa, I see and hear about it every day. I'm thinking you don't have to see it on a daily basis. I think you either don't have the opportunity to see the truth or you choose to ignore it.
Dawn, I have to wonder. On a thread awhile back you were able to tell that a person was a black welfare recipient (and judged him very harshly) based on an obituary that contained no such information.I have to wonder how that person would be treated in your church.

I feel really bad for you and your wife. You have to pay for you son's education, while all those lazy(and I'm sure undeserving) black folk get to go to school for free. Let me help you out a bit.
Do a google search on HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). You'll find a huge list of great colleges there. Find a few that has the major your son is interested in.
You may not know this, but many HBCUs are working hard to diversify their campuses. These schools will give your son a free ride.
Next do a google search on UNCF (United Negro College Fund). If your son finds a school that won't offer a free ride, check out the UNCF scholarships. You may not know this, but there are many UNCF scholarships that aren't race based. If your son enrolls in an HBCU, he can receive tons of money from UNCF.![]()
Oh, Howard, Hampton and Moorehouse are highly sought after HBCUs.
Good luck.![]()

Since I was nice enough to share with you, maybe you'll be willing to share with me. Please tell me how black people are attending college for free. My son graduates next year. We live in the inner city. (I also grew up here) I'm a single parent. Surely based on what you've posted we must be entitled to some of this free tuition.
Just so you know, if my black son decides not to attend a HBCU, he will not be able to get one penny from UNCF.
Now, on to the other garbage you posted.
I don't know where you live, but there are plenty of middle class families living in NYC inner city neighborhoods. Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights, Bushwick, East New York... are all economically diverse neighborhoods. Many of us grew up here. After graduating from college, we came back home. Some purchased homes, some rent. We work hard to ensure that our children attend the best schools. That may mean publilc, private or charter.
You’ve posted about affirmative action. You might want to direct that anger toward the group who have benefitted the most from affirmation action. I'll let you in on a little secret, black folk aint at the top of that list.
The facts are the facts, aren't they?

I can assure all are welcomed at our church.Let's not forget about the various threads about "odd" names.
Or the thread about Rev. Run's daughter who died shortly after she was born.
How do you know this? Can you tell me that a minority can walk into an all white church in an all white town and be embraced by the congregation. I seriously think not!

I don't recall the thread about "odd names". What does that have to do with the subject at hand?
You posted a thread about an obituary of a man with an odd name. You deduced that since he had an odd name and alot of kids that he was a black welfare recipient and judged him very harshly. Most of the posters on the thread were not amused by your conclusions. It has everything to do with how one might think you would treat or judge a black person in your "white church".
That in itself it one of the most PREJUDICE things I have heard in a while.
I am from a mostly "white" town. We are a small town, only about 15,000 people. I belong to a loving church who welcomes ALL walks of life!!! Rich, poor, white, blacks...it does not matter in our church EVERYONE is welcome!
We have a black family in our mostly white church. Guess what they are WELCOME in our church!!! Same with the lady from Vietnam and the family from India!
Our church tries their best to make everyone feel welcome.
Our pastor doesn't allow his views of politics enter his sermons. All I know is he is a Democrat and the only reason I know that is because I saw him at our Democrat causus last month.
We pray for ALL of our world and country leaders.
NOT every 'white' church in the US is prejudice. To say that a miniority can not walk into an all white church in an all white town and be embraced by the congregation, shows your racist and prejudice views.
I am truly sorry if you are a person of color and you feel you can't walk into an all or mostly white church and be embraced. Maybe some church are like that but I KNOW my church is far from that!
Don't lump all churches together.
In the words of my father, I am an American. He taught me that nothing else matters.
