I don't think it was her finest moment, but I'm not holding her feet to the fire for it. I think it looked better on paper when someone wrote it then when it actually got said.

Yup, and "change you can Xerox" probably sounded better on paper, too. Oh well.

To tinkerdorabelle, I hope you don't remain sorry you voted for Barack Obama. I don't think he's the same man Rev. Wright is--there is nothing in his life or his words that makes me think so. There are many people I love and respect but don't agree with on every issue. I can understand why someone who is devoutly Christian wouldn't disown the person who introduced him to Jesus. And I'm as anti-religious as they come. Believe me, if it were Hillary canoodling with David Dukes, I would know that she's not of the same mind. She is her own person, just as Barack is.

You vote on a politician by his voting record and his ability to affect change,

He had what, about 20 years, to try affect change in the attitudes at his own church. Doesn't look like he accomplished much. I'm not sure why wer'e suppose to think he could be more effective with the entire country.

Or, maybe the change is suppose to be that the 80% or so who are offended by Wright's controversial viewpoints will come around to his way of thinking?

I was thinking last night about the troops, rarely do I forget about them. Unlike many, I recognize that there is a time to bring them home.... But I also look at our downward spiraling economics, our divisive Rovian style politics, lobbyists that love to run things, and I see the problems. Our far reaching foreign policy does not help, McCain now brings up Iran, I reject that. I reject that we should be in Iraq for 100 years. Why do we need to be there? To stop the mess we started... I find myself thinking about a lot of things, and the one thing that is undeniable is that our current President is not able to admit any wrongdoing, any mistake, any serious economic problems, he couldn't write his own speech if his life depended on it, neither could John McCain.... I won't argue these points, they are the points I hold personally, and my mind will not change on them.

So back to the Boston Globe :thumbsup2
Good to read what's on your mind, too! Three cheers for the Boston Globe!!
About Bush-I can never think about him giving a speech without thinking of Letterman. :rotfl:

http://www.wwj.com/Democratic-Re-do-Likely-Won-t-Happen/1844462

"It's appearing more and more likely there will not be a re-do of the Democratic presidential primary election. WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick reports state Senate Democrats came out of a closed door meeting Tuesday morning and said there are not enough votes to approve a re-do.

Legislative approval is necessary for a re-vote to happen.

Speaking live on WWJ, Skubick said it would take a "miracle" to have the re-do approved, but he added it's still possible.

There has been no comment from the Michigan Democratic Party. A spokesman said they are waiting to see what the legislature does."

Well, sounds like that's that.

Yeah but what preacher or priests preach this from the pulpit or preach what they've done as right if they have done something "bad." This preacher is proud of what he feels and it is part of their church's beliefs, and this is Obama's church for 20 years. How do you get past that. You cannot in anyway get around this. I wish I could, I went over it over and over in mind. Its what it is, and it speaks volumes about him. And any church that had a priest or leader that did something I didn't like, especially when it came to such deep beliefs like this preacher, I would run to the high hills. Yet Obama didn't do that. It would be like me having a priest who thought having relations with a child was "right" or having relations with other women, etc., whatever it was and preached it on the pulpit as right, and I still went to the church, thats what Obama did. He holds this man in high esteem, and he never really says its wrong, he sort of tiptoes around it, at least not wrong enough, and makes excuses for it.

First of all, this is the Obama support thread. There is a Pastor thread. I will say this and not say more on this subject on this thread.

Have you read the speech and gone back to re-read it? He clearly set up a relationship with this man 20 years ago when times were very different. This Preacher has done much good for that part of Chicago, and to reduce it to two minutes is at best disingenuous to what their mission actually is. Obama has been more transparent than any politician I have ever seen. Have you read his books, he speaks to this issue. This Preacher isn't just a preacher to him, he's like a family member. You can't always be proud or like what your family says or does. The good he did outweighed the bad. Obama has totally rejected these things that have been called hateful he does not speak by then, he does not act by them, and he does not vote by them.

You can try to hear some of the non-controversial sermons, but it seems you have your mind set, that's too bad.

I think Obama has a collective vision for this country, something neither of his rival's have.

No, he hasn't. He has been subjecting his young, impressionable daughters to what Obama characterized today as:

"incindiary language" and "views that denigrate both the greatness and the goodness of our nation; that rightly offend white and black alike...

This is the Obama Supporters Thread :goodvibes Lots of debate threads available on the DIS.

I guess I'm being asked politely to get off the thread. I probably wouldn't have posted more but I was quoted so I posted back. ;o) No one feels worse about it than me. But just for the record, I did support Obama, which is why I originally posted on this thread. He definitely is a brilliant charismatic man and speaker.

Before you go ... did you read the whole speech? I really felt that it addressed your concerns.

Thanks :) Just for the record, I hope you all are right and I hope to have my mind changed back. I'll say a positive thing about Obama, compare his brilliant speaking to the President we have now! ;) :lmao: lol.

And just think, he wrote this speech, do you think our current President could write anything? I think his tutor's wrote things for him.....

If you have not watched the speech, it's worth watching. If you haven't read or listened to his books they are worth reading. If at the end of your search you feel you cannot trust him, then that is your decision, and you are entitled to your opinion, nobody can take that away (but this is the Positive thread)

I very rarely post, but I like to read here, and consider it a haven from the negative energy of the so-called "debate" threads.

And yes, I used a sarcastic smilie, how childish of me.:goodvibes

There's a long time between now and November. And believe me, I understand why you feel the way you do. Most of the posters deriding him were never Obama supporters, and lately they feel they have more mud to throw. They wouldn't listen to me, or to Obama. But I honestly don't believe that any of the candidates still in the running are racists, no matter who supports them.

I agree with robinb, I do feel his speech speaks to some of your issues. Maybe you could re-read it and think about it.
