Woo-Hoo!!!:cheer2:

(I sorta feel sorry for that 1/2 delegate....Can't figure out what that means, do they get 1/2 a vote? 1/2 a chair? 1/2 a chicken dinner? :rotfl2: )

:rotfl2: :thumbsup2

I hope they at least get a whole chair ROFLMBO.....

Change to Win Endorses Obama--Great News!!

"The new Change to Win labor federation gave its first presidential endorsement to Democratic Sen. Barack Obama on Thursday, saying its 6 million members could help push him over the top and into the general election as the Democratic nominee.

"We think we can make a difference," chair Anna Burger said. "We think it's time to bring this nomination to a close."

The endorsement came after a teleconference between Change to Win's leaders and the heads of the seven unions that make up the federation. The federation's members will now head to the crucial election states of Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island for the upcoming March 4 primaries, as well as in Pennsylvania on April 22.

Change to Win has 175,000 members in Ohio, 60,000 in Texas and 25,000 in Rhode Island, Burger said. Besides leafleting, knocking on doors and advocating for Obama at workplaces, Burger said she expected more than 100,000 Change to Win voters to participate in the Ohio primary alone."

Thanks! I feel pretty lucky; with the way the economy is going, a lot of universities are announcing budget cuts and hiring freezes. I got this position just under the wire, I think.

Now, I'll have to re-register. One more Dem headed to Arizona!

BTW, I love what Obama has to say about helping students obtain a college education through a promise of community service. That's exactly the type of program that is needed right now to re-energize this generation of 20-somethings.

My DW is definitely not a political junkie (she puts up with me, though :teeth: ). We were watching the other night, though, when he gave his speech, and that definitely got her attention. :thumbsup2

Me too! I applauded the T.V. (to the surprise and amusement of my dogs).

I'd love to say that I live in America so I could actually help elect this man President!

Unfortunately, as a Canadian I can't vote, but I wanted to say this is a great thread and I'm watching the election closely....:)

I love what he has to say about the 4K (or was it 5K) per year if they give back to the community, that's fantastic... The message it sends is outstanding. It gives young adults the idea that they have a huge part in their destiny right from the start...

Love to hear that the Change to Win labor federation endorsed Obama, but with a name like that, I would have thought they'd have endorsed already!

Hey, nobody bumped this up... Does anyone else not wonder why NAFTA wasn't brought up further? I think they could have spoken for another few hours to really get more issues out there.....

Congratulations! I've never been to Tucson, but Arizona is beautiful!

I think Barack did well in the debate, he didn't let himself get bogged down in the petty crap that Hillary wanted to talk about. And is it just me, or did Hillary come off a bit too strong over the health care issue? She's really passionate about universal health care, which is great, but at the same time I wonder if she's willing to compromise. Barack's plan would be met with less initial resistance from the other side of the aisle, I think.

I think the "Change you can Xerox" line is really going to end up hurting her. To me it was a sign of desperation. Not to mention that all the coverage of the debate I have seen this morning, that is the moment they focus on. Not on any of the substance that she may have laid out. People are tired of that kind of negativity, but they also can see through the stupidity of her case here. I mean, the guy who originally used the phrase in question is his national co-chairman of his campaign, and told him to use it!

Well, it appears that the scandal of the day is why Michelle's thesis isn't available. Give me a break...

She probably doesn't feel like defending it all over again. Big deal. :confused3

Is this all they have on the Obamas? :rotfl:

Because Hillary only really has one issue where she is stronger than he is. Her passion really does shine through on that particular subject, and that's something she just doesn't seem to show authenticity with on other subjects. Seriously...other than that one issue - which she did end up sounding a bit shrill on - was there any other issue discussed last night where she came off better than he did? :confused3 Trying to judge it objectively, I just don't think so.

Actually, the other moment they focus on is from her closing comments, which were very well put together. But what I found funny last night - and yep, still this morning - is that it wasn't her line. Again, I have no problem with politicians borrowing lines, as there are only so many ways to eloquently express the same points of view. But after the stink her campaign made about the "words have power" line Barack used, and her really poorly considered "Change you can Xerox" line (which is probably the first time I can remember a presidential candidate getting booed in the auditorium), it just reeked of hypocrisy.

It'll be interesting to watch the polls for the next week. If she starts slipping behind in Texas and it starts to even out in Ohio, I wouldn't be surprised if she starts setting the stag for her exit before March 4th even gets here.

DN is volunteering at Kent State for Obama and she said that the enthusiasm for him is really growing. A busload of kids went down to Youngstown State to hear him the other day-DN had to work-she was really bummed.

She said the organizers are telling the kids that the gap is closing and that they're being told that Hillary has a 6% lead now.

Wvrevy, it may just be me, but I don't think she is stronger on healthcare. It's just a matter of whether you want to mandate it... except for Children, I don't want to mandate it, thus for me, Barack's plan is better. One thing she said that I don't think is accurate, is that Medicare is mandatory, and she used that as one of her talking points as to why it should be mandatory... BUT, I am all but certain Medicare is NOT mandatory, although probably most if not all seniors do sign up for it.

I think they were both pretty even last night... which is actually a pretty good thing....

I don't know...there is a point to be made that if you want to get to true, universal health care, you have to start out shooting for it, because you're definitely going to get "whittled down" from that position before you get anything passed. Also, I just think that, since she's been working on that issue - at times exclusively on that issue - for the past 15 years, she's more thoroughly versed and more passionate about it than he is. I don't think she has the better plan, necessarily. I just think she presents a better argument on that one issue.

But as for the rest...I honestly don't think it was even. I think he beat her on just about every other issue, and she looked completely foolish a couple times (particularly the line for which she was booed). They both got their digs in on McCain (Barack had the best line of the night when saying McCain was right that he didn't understand the economy :teeth: ), but I just thought he came off a bit better than she did for the most part.

One thing's for sure...she definitely didn't get the "you're no Jack Kennedy" moment that I think she needed. :teeth:

I'm looking forward to when the nomination is over and the ragging on McCain can begin in earnest. I got the impression that Obama would rather be talking about his differences with the presumptive Repub. nominee than his smaller differences with Clinton.
