NYE Western Cruise 2008 - New Thread

Asling - I know I hit you up about possibly sharing a ride from WL to Port on departure day but after getting Southwests rates we will probably end up driving. I can't believe we will probably do it but overall it's around 15 hours and if we break it up into two days its definetly doable. As long as southwest doesn't come back with an unbelievable rate we will probably just plan for that.

Ok, Mel has been hinting that he wants to take the DCL bus, so I've been collecting info on that as far as WL pick-up goes. Looks like we're all set with transportation to the port and back to the airport.

Anjelica, when you spell my name "Asling", I get teased about my a%% being in a sling! Do you want me to have to put soap in my kids' mouths?

Hello everyone!!

Brenda, now if I could do it all digital, that would be great. Sounds a lot easier and no mess to clean up, no supplies to put away.

My dress is black. I try to get a different color, but always end up with black. It only cost $100 at Coldwater Creek. I'm trying to work things out so I don't have to pack as much. My boys won't go any further than a dress shirt and tie on semi-formal and formal night. It drives me nuts, they have to roll up their sleeves before they even leave the room!

You guys think they will do pirate night in Grand Cayman instead? I hope we can stay in Cozumel longer that night since they won't have to leave for the fireworks for the pirate party.

Judy, lay some guilt on your boys that you would love to have a nice formal family photo, and they need to unroll their sleeves and put on a jacket! How can they resist their mama?

I'm trying to find old trip reports from NYE on the Magic to see how they juggled the special nights. I think Robin was on a NYE cruise. Robin, do you remember how they adjusted the nights for NYE?

Since they are boys, I would use different logic...

I would tell them their choice is jacket, slacks & tie or matching Christmas sweaters...I'll lay you 10 to 1 that they choose the jackets over the sweaters ;)

Ok smartypants, I'd expect that from Nan, not sweet little you!:upsidedow

Yeah, Mel is being too good about the cruise, it's scary! I think he realizes how stoopid he was to bale out on our last one. Cheated himself out of a great vacation!:rotfl: He even looked at pictures of the WL that I showed him last night. Well, one eye was looking, and the other eye was on the TV screen, but that's a big :thumbsup2 for him!

Does anyone see a red x where my cruise sig was?

Yes. Did you change or move it recently?

No, but I did it through glitter.com or something like that. Maybe there's a problem with them. I'll make a new one with sparklee.

I checked to see if I got any new Dis points might have knocked out my sig. But I know I've been a very good girl lately!

Well, I called my TA to book the DCL bus, and was told they don't pick up from the WL, that we'd have to taxi to the Poly, so I said forget it. I told her I spoke to DCL myself and they said yes there is pickup from WL for the Villas people, and that we could use that bus, no problem. I said it didn't make sense for me to lug my family to the Poly when there would be a bus there for the Villa people. She said she was sorry, but there was nothing she could do.

I hung up and was about to call the WL Concierge to ask them to help, and I get a call back from the TA. She had called Disney and arranged for us to take the DCL bus scheduled for the Villas people. It had to be booked in a round-about way since we aren't Villas guests, but we're booked. It's an expensive choice, but it's the best for my family. The bus leaves at 11:30, so we should be at the port by 12:15 and on the ship by 12:30. OMG I can't wait!

Moral of this story: Costco Travel is A-Plus!

OH man - I am sorry - total flub on my part. I can completely sympathize with folks "screwing" up names because before the Rugrats many people got mine wrong.

Aisling/Tiggerwannabe - definetly feeling ALOT better. I can't ever recall having strep my entire life but this was awful. Had a fever for a bit and since I am a mouth breather it made the whole then ten times worse.

Our last NYE cruise, they did have formal night on NYE, so I would assume that formal night will be on Cozumel day. Hope that helps. They weren't doing Pirate night then, so not sure which night that would be.

I stocked up on our suntan lotion too this weekend, when summer is done here, I am packing up our suitcases - I cannot wait!! I agree, no long formal dress here either, suit for DH and whatever we can find in our closet for the rest of us.

I also went to Joannes over the weekend and am going to try to make my own fish extender. I looked on ebay, and the lady that makes them wanted $30. They looked awesome, but the pattern I found in a post on DIS somewhere made them sound simple, so I am giving it a shot. It is pink material with black mickey heads for the background, and then black pockets that I am going to decorate with pink rickrack and miscellaneous disney stuff. I am not the best sewer, but I thought the $8 I spent was much better than $30 plus S & H. Hey, that is like maybe 3 drinks more I could have!!

no formal dress for me - have nice dress pant suit - if that is what they are calling them these days

Kara on the other hand - who knows - she tried on the dress she wore to homecoming last year and it is too tight now in the shoulders and across the top of her back - darn all of those butterfly laps she has done in the last year

Marching band starts here next Monday - the clarinet is repaired and all ready for another season - stocked up on reeds too

She has her dress all picked out for their senior night while they are at band camp at the end of the month - all seniors get to dress up - parade around have pictures taken and the underclass band members serve them dinner

Then they have a bon fire and every senior gets to give a little 'speech' on what marching band has meant to them

Yeah - it is really a great way to go for sure!!!!

:lmao: :lmao:
I may rent Ryan a DCL tux (he looked SOOOOO good on prom night - but he looks good in his suit as well)....we'll see - it may also depend on what i end up wearing....since he is my 'date' for the evenings

Good morning,

Calling Artman.............How was the James Taylor concert? I can see you as a James taylor fan, with a little Devo thrown in!;)

Jesse's girlfriend Gabbie is back from WDW. She had a great time, of course, but had some trouble with the Brazilian tour groups. Gabbie is a tiny 5 foot tall 90 lb girly girl, but she's a New Yawker who doesn't take kindly to being pushed around, and she gave those Brazilian girls a piece of her mind a time or three.

Marla, your girl sounds like such a focused, active young lady. I know you must be proud of her. :thumbsup2

Robin, what are your kids up to this summer? Are they excited about cruising again? Have you told them they'll have some teenage company if they feel like it?

They are both playing summer fastpitch softball. The older will be a sophmore and is also playing volleyball, so that is getting moving also, a few camps and open gyms. The younger one plays basketball and softball, and has been going since January, softball tourney are this week and next, so she will be done soon.

They are really excited about cruising again, and that both will be able to go to the teen place together. Last 2 cruises they pretty much stayed with us, but I think they may give the socializing a try, especially since they can be together. Neither has a boyfriend at this time, so they are always checking them out when we travel:lovestruc

What is the web address for the web page for the cruise. I must have missed that blog.

I soooo cant wait. I am joining WW tonight, so in real fashion, I had a coffee roll from D&D this am.. and going to lunch w/some friends at noon.

I could look through my stuff for what fits, but still will probably search the sales racks at like Lord & Taylor or something!!!

OH.. and Brian wants a tux. Check your local tux shops and ask about the cruise specials... They often have good deals.

Our last NYE cruise, they did have formal night on NYE, so I would assume that formal night will be on Cozumel day. Hope that helps. They weren't doing Pirate night then, so not sure which night that would be.

Since they were doing the Tropical Night featuring "Tropicalifragilisticexpialidocious evening" which was on Cozumel night; then, perhaps that would be the same night that the Pirates night would have been.
