My family is trying to decide a strategy for New Year's Eve. We will fly into MCO on the evening of December 30th. We are staying that evening at the Hyatt at MCO which I reserved throught Priceline at $46.00. We will be in Orlando until Tuesday, Jan 3rd. Right now, I actually have a room reserved at the Wilderness Lodge, and yesterday reserved a room at the Hard Rock Hotel. The front of the line access at Universal really appeals to me if I stay at the Hard Rock. But, we really enjoy Disney, are DVC members, and have never been to Universal Studios. The hotel cost is pretty close on both properties.

From what I've read on other threads, the New Year's Eve crowd at Disney seems unbearable. We have a six year old daughter with my wife and I. The thought of going to the Magic Kingdom at 8:00 a.m. on the 31st, and staying until midnight, facing that crowd all day, does not seem like great fun to me. Are the crowds at Universal any better for NYE? And does the front of the line access really help around New Years? How does Universal appeal to a six year old girl? I'm considering splitting up the hotel stays, but we really don't care for the idea of packing up and moving.

Any experience and opinions on the above would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know how the lines on New Years Eve will be, but we are also DVC members and have begun to add a night at the Hard Rock just for the room key line access. Last year during spring break we added a night at the hard rock after a stay at the bcv. During that day and a half we covered every ride we wanted to-multiple times in both parks. The longest we waited was 5 minutes. So although you may have more crowds on a Holiday like New Years, it is definatly a major benefit.
Have a great time whatever you decide!
