NYC to Canada July 8, 2012: Its Magic, Eh?

I say, the more the merrier! School is still in session for me, so FE gifts are on the back burner for now. I've got plenty of time to add on some more! :)

Hi Cathicool, Taximom00, and Tinkified!

I couldn't wait any longer. . . . I told my 11 yo niece about the cruise! And, when she heard there was a chance to meet other tweens/teens she was very interested! I'm not sure how much she'll be able to email, as she's only with me every other weekend, but she has Facebook at her father's house and would love to meet the other girls for the first night activities at Edge! I'll PM you each with my email. :thumbsup2

I have some cabin/family gifts as well as individual gifts....some of us in the group appear to be more than one house...grandparents, nieces etc.. Where possible, if possible, I would like to deliver more than one family gift to a cabin if there are separate households involved....

SO.....from what I am gathering.....

Taximom.....are you 2 households? Yours and your moms?

Psm729.....are you 2 households?

Jmpm......are you 2 households? The girls are your nieces, right?

Cathicool......are you 2 households? Yours and the grandparents?

Let me know......like I said, I am gonna try to work it out so everyone can go home with a family/household gift....but you gotta be in it to win it!

Yes, we are 2 different households.

May and June are busy months with all the school stuff going on. Plus my son has been having alot of difficulty with his allergies (and his behavior!). It's been a challenging month to say the least! Can't wait to get on the ship, meet everyone, and RELAX! :cloud9:

Yes, we (Taximom) are two different houses....my mom (Virginia) and myself (Maura) and my daughter (Zoe)

Thanks for organizing this!

Hi Cathi,

Definitely a stressful time of year for all kids so I can only imagine how it is magnified for your son. Transition times are hard!

BTW, did you get my PM?

Hi! We are 2 households, but only semi. . . The girls are with me every Monday and every other weekend, so they won't be sad if you don't work out 2 family gifts. And, can I just say that you are very thoughtful?! And, that I am going insane with curiosity!! LOL! I'm so excited, and can't wait to work on my own gifts!

Hi! It's so nice of you to think of this! We are 1 household - my mom lives with us.

This may have been covered....I'll go through thread later but in case it hasn't.....

1. If we decide to come into the city the night before the cruise....anyone know of a reasonably priced hotel, not too terribly far for port?

2. We are visiting relatives before the cruise and may return to airport to take Disney transfer. Which airport would you recommend for access to the port. We'll be heading back toward the city from Ithaca!

3. Want to stay in NYC a couple of days after. Need another reasonably priced hotel somewhat near the "sightseeing" that also would allow somewhat easy access to airport, probably Newark!

Thanks for the info....looking forward to meeting everyone!

I am so happy I came across this today!!
I also have an 11 year old daughter who needs some encouragement to hang with other girls. She loves hanging out with me, but I would love to get her involved in the Edge on that first night. Please PM me so we can have the girls start talking.

On the other hand, my 8 year old is so outgoing, she will know the names of the entire crew and probably most passengers by the first night. LOL

I have an eleven year old daughter who would probably enjoy emailing or FaceTime-ing your daughter prior to the trip. I will pm you information for contacting us.

Can you also PM me? I have an 11 year old daughter (Emily) that would love to talk to someone ahead of time. She is shy at first, but lots of fun once she is comfortable.

Hi!
This describes my 2 daughters as well.....my (just turned) 12 year old is not the most socially adjusted kid, and my 7.5 year old is very social! Maybe they will become fast friends!

I'm so glad the girl group is growing! My niece has taken to telling our friends, "I'm going on a cruise, and guess what? I'm a tween!" LOL! She is so excited!!

Anyone staying in Manhattan before the cruise? We have never been to NY before, so it's the blind leading the blind. I keep meaning to print out a map of Manhattan/downtown. We have 1 night before the cruise and 1 night after. Any hotel suggestions???
:dance3:

We are coming in the Friday before the cruise and staying at the Courtyard Marriott Times Square South. It was a great rate when we booked it and got decent reviews on trip advisor. We are only sleeping there, so just want something safe and convenient. I'm sure there are hotels closer to the port, but we plan to do some sightseeing in NYC so wanted something more centrally located.

You are in a good location and really only a little over a mile from the Port. You'll need to take a taxi that morning with your luggage, though.

Definitely safe and convenient and you will enjoy your time before the cruise!

The port is midtown and there are many hotel chains to choose from. There is a Doubletree right in Times Square (and a Marriott and a Hilton around the corner)....I love Doubletree as having a suite just makes things easier.

If you are travelling with kids, there is a lot to do right in that area. Empire State Building, Toys R Us (cool indoor ferris wheel) M&M World, Wax Museum etc....If you pick one museum, I recommend the Museum of Natural History.....kids love it.

Hope this helps!

The four of us are staying in a suite at the Doubletree Times Square before the cruise. It's more expensive than a regular/standard room at a hotel but cheaper than getting two rooms.
