NYC CRUISES PLANNING/INFO ThREAD!

There are a zillion restaurants in NYC. It depends what you want.

NY is the home of awesome pizza and bagels. In my mind, that is what to eat in the city. I wouldn't spend a fortune on a fancy place if only here a short time.

Ellen's Stardust is a wonderfully fun Broadway experience (the wait staff sings to the restaurant in a high energy atmosphere).

Four Seasons is an elegant NYC institution. But, there is better food.

Serendipity is another famous fun "institution".

American Girl Cafe is a blast for young girls (your doll "eats" in a special seat with your child).

Can you give me an idea of what you want? Elegant, fun, typical NYC, ...?

I just sent an email to DCL asking this but I thought I would check here to see if anyone else might know.

We are on the June 2nd 8-night cruise. Our Port Canaveral day is Thursday, June 7th. I was able to book a 6:30 am bus to MK that day. MK has early EMH that morning. Do you know if DCL passengers will be able to get into the park early for EMH?

If I were to make an educated guess, I would have to say yes. From my understanding, we will be receiving a KTTW card for our day at DW. That should entitle us to get into MK at 8am. I will be on the June 2nd cruise. I will waiting to here the reports from your cruise.

I am on the June 2nd cruise also so I won't be able to give you a report - sorry :). I see you are in the Cleveland area. We live in Twinsburg.

I was on NYC to see the ship last week and my friend and I just happen to be walking away from the port to grab something to eat. We wound up walking with the gentleman who does the Disney Parks Blog. He was walking back to his hotel and I noticed it was a Kimpton Hotel (Disney put a few of their people there). Just 5 blocks from the port. I have stayed in Kimpton's before and had great experiences. This one is called Ink48 by Kimpton and is on 48th and 11th Ave. and is in an old printing building....it would be a great hotel to stay precruise....walk a few blocks the othe way you you are in Times Square.

I hope some of you experienced DCL people can help me.

We are on the Magic on 8/25 leaving from NYC. We stop at Port Canaveral for a day in the parks.

I keep reading about everyone booking their shuttle to the parks that day but how and when do I do that? Is that something only previous DCL passengers can do right now? I don't want to be stuck getting a shuttle at 12 noon because all of the other shuttles are full.

I know we can book dining for our day, since that is independent of the cruise bookings.

I have never cruised on DCL before so I don't know all of the ins and outs of booking excursions, etc.

Thanks for the input.:goodvibes

Hey coconuts. You can book the bus to the parks at the same time as you do online check in. If you've not cruised before I think thats 70 days out (but someone will correct me if I'm wrong!).

Have you been on our meet thread? I don't recall seeing your name. Come and say hi!

You will be able to book your bus to the parks 75 days out from your cruise. It will be listed under port excursions on your Port Canaveral day. I am a repeat cruiser and was able to book at 90 days out for our cruise on 6/2 and all of the early times for all parks were still available.

Oh man, I was afraid of that. I am sure we'll be on the 3:00 bus to the parks if I have to wait until 75 days out.:headache: I have no luck at all.:sad2:

I am on the meet thread; I guess I could have posted my question there, but didn't really think about it.

On a separate note, has anyone had bad experiences with the parking garage next to the port? We're not sure yet what our plans will be, but may be parking there.

Don't stress just yet about the transportation to WDW. I spoke to one of the cast members in the VIP guide department on Saturday ( we're booking a tour through them). He said that they were quite concerned that people would not realize that they had to reserve their transportation to WDW and when I told him we'd already done it, he said we were among only 115 who had already booked it.

Also, I can't remember all the times, but there was one at about 6 :30 AM and I'm thinking that one won't fill up as fast.

We were thinking about parking at the port too, but I was a little worried when I found out you can't reserve it. I would hate to get there and have no place to park. We're thinking of staying near the Newark airport and doing a park and fly rate.

6-17-12/6-22-12. I am in the same situation. trying to decide the best way to get to NYC from Providence, RI.
Option 1.
Take Peter Pan bus, will cost us $120(2 adults $40 each, kids half price) taxi cab fare around $40 round trip from station to cruise port. approx $160 total.

Option 2.
Drive, parking for 6 days=$180 plus toll, gasoline and sitting in traffic.

I am open to suggestions...

Cybernoypi- we're on the same cruise. We cant decide btwn taking amtrak from Baltimore or driving. You cant check bags on the train we would take and the website says it restricts the size of bags that you can carry on (our cruise suitcases are MUCH larger). But DH says he's never seen people stopped from bringing large suitcases on. We're definately coming up the night before so we either take the train and say in an expensive Manhattan hotel room or drive and leave the car in Newark.

Are there any hotels where you can stay, park and cruise? I know Springhill suites does but it is in a difficult location. And what would be the cost of a cab?

I was just curious how we park hop? I know to book the initial transportation, but how do we go to other parks? Use the hotel buses?

Most NYC hotels do not have park and cruise rates since parking is at such a premium here. There are parking garages near the port that allow "rate guarantees" where you pay a pre-determined rate for the time your vehicle will be there. For example, for the 8 night cruise departing 8/25 & returning 9/2 I would pay $280 if I park at the port. By comparison a nearby parking garage on W 51st St between 10th & 11th Ave would charge $200 if reservations are made in advance. The driver could drop the passengers and luggage off then park the car. Then walk back to the terminal (approximately 2 blocks depending which pier the ship is in). Check out http://nyc.bestparking.com for rates.

The cost of a cab is dependent on where you're coming from. Here are the rates:

Standard City Rate (Rate Code 1)
$2.50 upon entry
$0.40 for each additional unit

The unit fare is:
  • one-fifth of a mile, when the taxicab is traveling at 6 miles an hour or more; or
  • 60 seconds when not in motion or traveling at less than 6 miles per hour.
  • The taximeter shall combine fractional measures of distance and time in accruing a unit of fare. Any combination of distance or time shall be computed by the taximeter in accordance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology Handbook 44.
  • The fare shall include pre-assessment of the unit currently being accrued; the amount due may therefore include a full unit charge for a final, fractional unit.
  • Night surcharge of $.50 after 8:00 PM & before 6:00 AM
  • Peak hour Weekday Surcharge of $1.00 Monday - Friday after 4:00 PM & before 8:00 PM
  • New York State Tax Surcharge of $.50 per ride

I was just curious how we park hop? I know to book the initial transportation, but how do we go to other parks? Use the hotel buses?

Just like if you were a guest at one of the resorts. Monorail, bus, ferry, etc.
