That is just the best on the week countdown! You can start to think.last meal I have to cook, last complaint I have to listen to, last unloading of the dishwasher ( at home anyway ) ... How long you away for? How many glorious nights?

No kidding! I am doing alot of "this time next week" ..
I am listening to MouseWorld Radio this morning and it is making me so excited!

We arrive Sunday and leave Friday night!! I haven't been to Disney for a whole week in about 2 years. We go for a bunch of 3 day trips over the weekend, but I can't wait to just relax and go at a nice pace.

We also have Be Our Guest, Le Cellier, Ohana, Yachtsmens Steakhouse all booked...This time next week I will be in DHS having lunch at Sci FI!!! :cool1:

Just did online check in this morning!! Booked pool view and requested a king bed room, zebra trail when booked. Requested high floor and sunset savannah online.

Your requests might confuse the room assignor. Sunset savanna is on the other side of the resort from the pool and from zebra trail.

Drinks and snacks were really good.

As for drinks, they had large coolers of jungle juice (some sort of tropical fruit drink), lemonade, iced tea, and water (I think spring water, though it might just have been filtered water). In addition to the coolers, they have a fridge with milk, chocolate milk, many different kinds of soda (including orange, root beer, and caffeine free diet cola), and three or four kinds of beer (tusker, which i believe is an african beer, and some typical u.s. beers - i'm not a drinker so honestly i don't remember exactly what). Our favorite thing was to take a sprite from the fridge and add some of it to a glass of either the lemonade or the jungle juice, to make a sparkly fruit drink.

At breakfast, I loved the chocolate chip muffins and mini chocolate croissants. The oatmeal was surprisingly good, too - I'd add brown sugar and granola to it. Can you tell I have a sweet tooth?!?!? :lmao: DH loved the blueberry muffins, too.

During tea time, the sugar cookies were the best.

As for the appetizers, every day they put out some flatbreads and crackers with a few types of hummus and cheese. My favorites were the blue cheese and the white bean hummus. I couldn't eat most of the hot appetizers that rotated every day because I'm a spice wimp and they were often spicy, even things like falafel that I usually eat at home. For someone with a normal palate they'd probably be ok - I really am a wimp. One day they had a goat cheese creme brulee which was absolutely delicious, though. I also tried some of the selections on the kids' table and they were ok, like fried mac and cheese balls with bacon, or ham and cheese rollups - they were all fine, but not outstanding.

For dessert, DH really liked the mini fruit tarts, and I loved this dark chocolate mousse/cake thing (not sure how to describe it - it was a small square of really dark chocolate) with raspberry.

The only disappointment with the food was that I wish they had food out all day (there's generally about half an hour between "courses" when there's only drinks available but no food), and definitely later than 10 pm. When the parks close at 11 or midnight, it would be nice to come back and get a snack. The concierge will give you a guide with the list of times, so it won't be a surprise.

As for tours, we had grand plans to do a lot of the free tours and activities offered by the resort, but found ourselves spending most of the time we weren't in the concierge lounge on our balcony. we did attempt to do the 4 pm free culinary tour at boma and jiko, but it was a bust - when we got to the restaurants, they said boma was closed for construction (though we didn't see any - we spent most of the evening joking how "construction" was code for "mickey sent in some of his mouse friends"), so they sent us to jiko, which wasnt ready for us because the tour usually starts at boma, so they just pointed out two hidden mickeys, fed us some bread and dips (which were delicious), and sent us on our way. we were also interested in doing the architecture tour and the cultural safari (where the CMs from africa talk about their countries), but didn't have time.

I hope that's helpful. Feel free to ask for followup on anything. :)

Robin

Could the food and/or drinks be taken out of the CL and brought to your club room?
Thanks,
Jennie

Absolutely, there's no problem with that. Also, feel free to take extra sodas down to the pool or to the parks. They are there to make you happy.

I saw that and changed it...high floor, near elevator...

I just posted a picture a few pages back, in our Jambo Arusha savanna view, we didn't see too many animals in the morning, but every afternoon like 2-7 was like nothing you could imagine. Like a dozen or more animals at a time almost all the time.
Thank you! We'll only have 4 days there so hopefully we can spend one just sitting back at the resort.

I've been a few times and almost always do Savannah view, it's insanely fabulous if you can! I think as long as everyone remembers that this is where the animals LIVE. Altogether. In one area. Then it is easy to understand why you don't have 100 animals outside your patio at any given time. But I can't think of a time we've had nothing. This last visit at Kidani, we always had an ostrich friend in the AM and ankole cattle hanging out under our trees all day. The giraffe, birds, and zebra would follow the feed truck and tended to be near us when the stations were being loaded and for a bit after. Giraffe about 10 ish and evening about 6pm, zebra later and sometimes we would see them playing in the dark as we enjoyed an adult beverage on the patio.

As for Jambo vs Kidani, I had always done Jambo until this last trip. I was afraid we would miss the noise and activities at the main house. But the reality is that Kidani was a bit quieter with a pool my little kids enjoyed more. And the shuttle between the two houses ran every 10 mins or so if we wanted to do an activity or eat at one of their restaurants. It was so easy. Loved it so much I think they are both perfection. Just depends on what you guys are looking for. If quieter, Kidani. If more "in the action", Jambo might suit you better. Check out the restaurants and activities and try one. Then get addicted, return shortly following and try the other! Seems to be how it works! Hahaha. :rotfl2:

Thanks! We were going to rent DVC points for some extra room to stretch out but the lure of free dining was too great. For the same $, we'll have 2 more park tickets too! (We were originally going to use up some old non-exp water park days.)

We decided to go for the savanna view with bunk beds. This will eliminate any "he keeps touching me!" bickering. :lmao:

So speaking of making room requests, what is generally considered a great area to be in? Is there a bad view? I don't mind not having the sun in my eyes while trying to take pictures but I guess that will either happen while the sun rises or sets. No avoiding it.

Hi. Can anyone tell me what the club level us like at AKL? We stayed at BCR a couple years ago and loved it. But we'd like to try either AKL or WL next year. What kind of a view do you get with CL? Can you get bunk beds? Thanks!

Definitely. We took a can of soda and a small plate of some snacks (usually cookies or chips) to our room in the afternoons, so we'd have something to eat and drink when we got back from the parks late and the lounge was already closed (it closes at 10 pm). I'd say people didn't pile their plates high and leave with a mountain of food, but we saw lots of people grabbing a couple of cookies or cans of soda to go.

The non-DVC CL rooms are all Arusha Savannah view, so you should get a great view of lots of animals. The rooms are on the 4th floor, which I personally think is a good height - close enough to the ground that you can really see the animals, but high enough that you get an expansive view. I know some people wish the rooms were lower for closer views of the animals, though.

The DVC CL rooms are on the 6th floor. Half have a savannah view and half have a pool view.

The CL lounge is on the 6th floor overlooking the lobby. It doesn't have a view of the savannah, which I thought would be disappointing, but I ended up really loving the lobby view, and because I had a savannah view in my room I really didn't miss it in the lounge.

No idea about the bunk beds. Sorry.

In general, the CL CMs are great, we had fabulous service, and thought the breakfast and desserts were really tasty. There's food out for most of the day, from early a.m. until 10 p.m. - mostly just snacks, but there are some appetizers and wine around dinner time. I presume the schedule is somewhat similar to BC CL, though the appetizers are generally african-inspired at AKL. We got spoiled enough that we decided to splurge on one more CL trip before our annual passes run out in October... :rolleyes1

karmacats gave you some great information! :thumbsup2

I also am unsure about the bunkbeds. After you book CL, you have access to the Itinerary Planning Office and I'm sure they will let you know if bunkbeds are a possibility. :)

I'm not sure I understand the difference between Kidani and Jambo. Is one of them the DVC villas and one is the main lodge? Thanks!

Awesome!!

How can you handle that kind of excitement? I feel like I need to take a week off of work BEFORE my Disney trip, since I will most likely be completely useless!
