Nudity in Gym Locker Rooms.

I work in an adult gym-no kids under 5 of the opposite sex. There's no reason for them to be in there because it's not a facility for kids-they stay in the kids area. I also worked at a Y that had a preschool attached. The Y divided the ladies locker room into the kid/family side and the Ladies side with a shower curtain. Personally once my son was 5 he went into the men's locker room by himself to change. If he was too pokey I sent a staff member in there to break up the party. IMO any child over the age of 5 should be able to dress themselves in their gender specific locker room.

In my opinion too. But I don´t think it´s just a question about whether they´re able to or not, but more a question of whether you trust the people around them in that locker room or not?

Yes they should, but that is not the reason I wouldn't let my ds go into a locker room by himself at that age.

I would not changed infront of any child. That said, a women's locker room should be for females only. A men's locker room should be for men only. There should be a separate changing area for families.

:confused3

I would guess that those who don;t freak out seeing another person naked might have a healthier ,more interesting sex life.
That's just a guess, though.;)

Sorry, I don't swing that way. Now put me in the Giant's locker room, and that is another story.

I was talking with DH about this the other night. We go to the same gym. His complaint is that there are a "few old guys" that sit around on the benches, naked, no towel and obvious "hygiene" problems! He was horrified last week however when a father brought his five year old dd into the locker room. He was dressed at that point but several men were not and could have cared less. On the way out he told the father that it was very inappropriate to expose a young girl to a male locker room and visa versa.

Question is, would a straight female feel uncomfortable changing around lesbians? Knowing that you might be "checked out" while changing?

As for me I dont mind.

Good for him!

Not the initial incision though. I could NEVER stand the initial incision, even in the OR. I used to avert my eyes so I only got a glance. Once that initial incision was over, pass me a sandwich! :rotfl:
I kind of figured.

If you can clean out someone's infected dehis or tunneled bed sore, or watch a hip replacement on an obese person or watch someone vomit poop or clean up a dead body, bag it and then go to lunch, you can certainly deal with droopy old lady ****s and have a BLT. :)

Nope. Wouldn´t mind at all.

Ick. I don't want to be "checked out" by anyone - man, woman or child. The issue of sexuality isn't even part of it.

The deal in the locker room is that people are naked and others don't look.

I shower off a bit after swimming. They have it set up so that you have to walk right through the common shower area to get in or out of the pool. I know people are walking by. I'm counting on them not staring. It took me a long time to get comfortable with that and if I found people checking me out, I wouldn't care for it. "I'm naked. You don't notice." That's how I have it worked out in my mind and I do it for others. :teeth:

But I get right into my towel afterwards. I'm not old yet! ;)

I agree! I don't want to be checked out and the lesbian issue has nothing to do with it.

I really agree with the people who are uncomfortable with people walking around naked in the dressing rooms. I understand it is their right to do so. That is why I avoid the dressing rooms completely and go home to change. ;) I really don't want to know what any of the women I see at the gym look like unclothed.

HELLO!?!?!? Read the above ^^^^^:lmao: :rotfl2:

This is just so hilarious to me. It's a locker room!! There is a reason there are showers! If you dont like it, bypass the locker room and go home to change/shower.

GEEZ.

Pretty soon ya'll are going to start complaining when you have to see someone elses feet under the stall next to you when you're making a deuce.[/QUOTE]

Don't be so silly! Women don't poop in public!!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I'll confess, that I do not understand what people find so distasteful or disgusting about a naked person.

I don't find it disgusting or distasteful at all. I would just prefer to have social exchanges with stranger while we are both clothed. Just my preference.

Plain and simple we are all just different. I am very modest, so you would NEVER see me walking around a locker room with no clothes on. I belong to the JCC, the locker room is really nice and clean, and I do see some women standing naked before putting on clothes. It always catches me by surprise. No I am not discusted by it, just always a little taken back. They have 6 shower stalls/areas that people can shower and change. In the hallway, they have the family rooms with the showers and changing area, these are for the famlies who are taking the small kids to the pool and they can all change together. What a great idea.
I do not shower at the JCC, I live less then 3 miles away. I just take my sweaty body home. I see many women who just have towels on doing their hair/makeup, I suppose its that hot factor when done with the shower.
I just am not comfortable changing in front of other people plain and simple. Other people dont mind and I think thats ok too. Well as long as they are not flaunting it and lounging naked its ok by me.
Sometimes I have to keep my 3 yr old daughter looking elsewhere as she will make a comment like "****IES"....she still gets a kick of that word;)

I have a unique family situation that makes us more comfortable with nudity. Since DH is handicapped and requires help getting dressed, etc., my children (my daughter too) have been exposed to an adult naked man for as long as they can remember. For them, it's not traumatic. It's just life.

Likewise, they have no qualms about their own nudity and will walk around the house in the buff. Sometimes when we have guests, I have to remind them not to do that!! :rotfl:

I don't think that it's a problem that people are naked in a locker room. I got the impression that some people actually lounge around in that state for an extended period of time and also that some people are uncomfortable with young boys seeing this. It's not a black and white issue.

Me, personally, I'm good at blanking out people around me wherever I am so I don't much care. I can understand that some people are more modest and have different comfort levels though.

But how would one know if some actually lounge around a locker room unless they were also lounging around the locker room.

If you are changing and getting out, how would you possibly know who is "lounging" around naked for extended periods of time?

Yes they should, but that is not the reason I wouldn't let my ds go into a locker room by himself at that age.

My sentiments exactly. He is seven and most definitely can change himself, but not trusting others is why I will not allow him to go into a men's locker room alone.

This I totally agree with. 7 year old boys should absolutely NEVER be in a women's locker room. They are definitely old enough to become aroused.

THis is gross. I have a seven year old and he is grossed out by anyone's nakedness.

But I still wouldn't take him in a women's locker room because he would be uncomfortable and so would the naked women running around. Hey, they are they paying members not my son.

My club has a rule that no one over four is allowed in the same sex locker room. THey are very strict. If you get caught, they can revoke your membership.

LOL! :rotfl:

Like this poster, I'm from Cleveland. And I second her on the old ladies being the #1 offenders. I don't know if it is regional or if all old ladies just say, "the hell with it - we don't care anymore." :)

Same thing here! I used to do water aerobics at the Y and those oldies but goodies were just wandering around naked as a jaybird.

This whole child in the locker room thing only bugs me at the Y where we DO have family rooms. There is no reason on earth to bring a child into the locker room for hte opposite sex. There is also a rule about it but a few of us complained about violaters and were told there is nothing they can do about people not following the rule. Then WTH have a rule in the first place??:confused3

Here is my thing--I would get out of the pool for water aerobics. Go to my locker to get my shower stuff, whereas a lot of these women would go straight to the shower. Do my shower. I have long thick hair so it takes awhile to get all that chlorine out. Get done, spin dry my suit, go to my locker. Finish drying off and get dressed. Brush out my hair. Go the bathroom. Stop at the sink and do my face lotion. Go back to locker and get my blow dryer. Blow dry my hair for awhile. (Again, long thick hair.) Etc.This whole process usually would take about 30 min and during this time there were two different women who were nude the whole time. They were always done from the shower before me and always still nude--no towel around them or anything when I left.:hippie:
