Oh, I'd go for the Apple Store. They actually know. Someone at the AT&T I'd think was hit or miss.

Especially if the AT&T is between you and the Apple Store, seems a better bet to try Apple first and then if they tell you it's a provider issue (who knows, right?) you can hit them on the way back.

You can look up the store online and make a reservation/appointment for the genius bar. Sometimes they're busy and if the random employee can't fix it (it was a random employee on the floor who fixed mine but if it is more serious...) they'd tell you to come back for the genius bar, so reserve an appt. online before you go in, that way you know you'll get taken care of.

and i just looked on line for an apple store, the closet one is 30 mins. away, i wonder if anyone at AT&T will know

Since we're ruling out dumb, you said the mute is off but have you checked that the volume is actually turned up?

My mom did this... drove herself absolutely bonkers then realized while it was no longer on silent by the switch the volume was turned all the way down and she couldn't hear it!

Just as a dumb answer solution of course. :)

yep the switch for the volume is def. up, i just turned it off now i have been trying to fix this for 2.5 hours now, i am so :mad

I've got no advice but since I'm a new I phone user I have been reading all the tips with interest. Trying to keep up with all the info without getting lost! :rotfl:

Do you have no sound with any apps or just no sound in angry birds? Angry birds has a mute setting (like most games). As there are different places that control volume, it can be confusing.:confused:
 
I've had this happen a few times with my iPhone. Somehow it locks itself (or I lock it) into headphone mode and the only thing that will fix it is to reset it to the original settings.


Settings>general>reset

It's annoying if you have a lot of custom settings to fix afterward.

no sounds on any apps are working :(

Try tapping the face of the phone twice with your finger. My phone froze on me and I did everything....nothing. Took it to the apple store and that is what he did.
 
i def. will post an update, i just got home and i thought i could try and squeeze in an apt. but there is none available for today so i will just keep my 1220pm apt. for tomorrow :)

After reading this thread I am not sure if you did a hard reset. Posters have recommended it but I don't think you have done it.

1. On your iPhone 4 press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for about ten seconds. After ten seconds you should see the Apple logo showing up.

2. Now try to run you phone again and see if it works.

yes i def. did that, but I have the 3g not sure if that makes a difference but i def. tried holding down the sleep/wake button along with the home button, done it several times.

I thought I would try the obvious since I thought you might be a newer user as you didn't know about closing apps.

I've learned everything I know about my iphone from Google & YouTube. Google any problem, any question. YouTube has wealth of helpful learning, training, and how to videos on any subject.

i was just trying what others suggested and what Itunes said about restoring it...
i haven't googled or youtubed but i will give it a try.

I had no idea about this either! Everyone of my apps was "open" I closed them all last night maybe my dd's ipod will get longer battery life now!

and me too i am learning new things to, that is why I am glad I can come to the disboards for help!
When I go to Apple tomorrow I am going to see if i can find out anymore things that i didn't know!:eek:
