DS's 3G did that once, we plugged his headphones in and unplugged them a few times, and it started working again. May be worth a try?
There's more do it than hitting the home button to close it?![]()
I had to do this too when my sound stopped working. I could not for the life of me figure out what the problem was. I googled possible fixes and this was one. Sure enough, fixed the problem.
Hope you get it working soon....it's so frustrating.

thanks guys but i did this 4x still didn't work, i am just guessing something is really wrong w/it.
Yes, that doesn't actually close them. Double click the home button - the apps you have open will appear in a line on the bottom of the phone. Press and hold one of the app icons until they all start jiggling and get a little red square with a - in it, click the red to close the app.
Thanks! I guess that explains my fast battery drain. I had to close 30 of them. lol
)I had no idea you were supposed to do anything after using an app other than hit the home button when you were finished! IS there anything? Or do you have to double click to close them?
OP, good luck! My old iPhone had a big problem once (none of the external buttons worked) so I took it to the Apple store. In 1 minute the tech reconnected some wire that had disconnected inside and it was fixed (for free!)
Ok still don't know what exactly went wrong with the phone, but the lady at Apple tested it out said, ok i am going to give you a new phone, she took my phone went in the back came out with a new phone for me did all my contacts etc.
lol sorry I didn't come home with an exact reason to what happened.

This is exactly why I am a loyal iPhone user - I've had a 3Gs for over two years now (got mine on the day the model was released). They've done this for me twice - in & out of the Apple store in 15 minutes with a new phone in hand.
Both my daughters & my husband have other types of phones. 2 out of the 3 of them have had issues IN the warranty period and they were given NO help.

Both of my issues happened after the one year mark. I still walked out of the store with replacements.
Because of this, I will always purchase my phones at the Apple Store instead of from AT&T.

It wouldn't have mattered. Apple takes care of their products, regardless of where you bought them.
ahhh gtk!!
see this phone i bought was from AT&T when i renewed my contract....but its an APPLE phone kwim
