November 9, 2008 4 day Wonder- who's in?

Welcome Dawn!! pixiedust: How fun that the whole family is going on this cruise. I wish our families would join us! I'm afraid they think we're a bit nuts, LOL. I just know it will be fun.

We're looking forward to Castaway Cay also- haven't settled on anything to do in Nassau yet. A tour would be fun, maybe a beach also...?

Glad you found us! Join on in.

:Welcome: Dawn!! Hope you are having fun planning. For me the planning is almost just as much fun!

Christine and Jenn
I have had a very good week. I was so excited to weigh in today and guess what...my scale its broken. Even changed the batteries. l Nothing! Went out tonight to costco and bought a new scale...that ones doesn't work either.:furious: I think I am down at least 1 lb. I can feel the difference. I just got my new orthotics tonight so hopefully my feet will be back to normal in no time and back to walking my 2 mile route.

Hope everyone has a great week.
Colleen

Hi Christine and Colleen
Sorry I have been MIA, my husband has some bad news about his back and we thought he might have to have surgery, thus possibly ending our Disney trip plans. He has been getting epidurals in his spine and keeping our fingers crossed, we are good to go.
This left me with all the farm chores and we have recently got two more horses in the barn, one for resale and one for my daughter to start working with. The best news, is with doing all this extra work I am down 8 pounds. Yeah!!!
I hope everyone is well. Take Care
Jenn

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, Jenn, that your DH continues to improve with his back. Wow epidurals... he must have lots of pain. Hope he gets through this!

But good news for you that the extra work didn't just make you extra hungry! HAHAHA!! 2 new horses- nice! My DD would be so jealous. She's at horse camp this week.

I'm down another pound or 2- today the scale said I was up 3, but I know it was just wrong. True, I ate a banana split last night- but it was not 3 pounds worth!!! Anyway I think my total so far is about 11 pounds. I am going to try to drop 5 more in the next 2 weeks before I go on summer vacation. Slim-Fast, here I come.

Christine

Jenn, Sorry to hear about your dh. Hope he is feeling well enough so that you don't have to cancel your trip. Great news about your weight loss!!!:cool1: Way to go!! I have had a hard time sticking to my plan but have recently got back on track. Thank goodness. Its time to get serious. Our trip is 4 months and 1 week away. Before you know it, it will be here.

Christine, Great news about your weight loss!! Have a great time on your summer vacation!!

take care,
Colleen

I've been looking for things to do while in Nassau. We've never been so we do want to get off the ship and explore around. I've looked into Blackbeard's Cay beach trip/stingrays...and just beach day options like going to British Colonial Hilton (walking distance from the pier), or maybe taking a cab to Cable Beach and getting a day pass to the Sheraton. I want to go somewhere with a nice beach... a good pool is a plus as well. The pirate museum would be fun for my kids as well. I'm pretty good about researching stuff and doing things on my own in port.

Has anyone else looked into any of these? Ideas? This is all new to us. First time cruising or even out of the country with our kids... but they are frequent travelers and are pretty easygoing and easy to please. They are so excited by going to another country!

Christine

Hi,
I've booked a land/sea vacation so I'll be on this cruise with y'all. This is my second DCL cruise. I went in 2000 on the 3 day with my sister and nephew, but this time I'm going solo. I haven't had a vacation for 3 years so I really need time to relax. I have booked a cat 7 with the navigator's veranda so I can enjoy the ocean and also because I have a tendency to get seasick and the fresh air and view of the horizon will help. Also, I'll be taking Bonine the whole time. I've been in Nassau once, I wasn't impressed. I think I'll stay on the ship this time. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself to my shipmates. Can't wait until November!:mickeyjum

Glad you are joining us! I think it's a great idea to take a solo cruise. A Navigator's verandah looks so nice. We had that style of enclosed balcony on our previous cruise and it was really nice, you didn't get cold and could enjoy the view at any time. :boat:

Where are you staying on your land portion of the trip? After 3 years of no vacation you are sure to enjoy this!

Christine

For the land portion, I totally lucked out and got the Polynesian. :woohoo: I have never stayed at a monorail resort before and I'm extremely excited to do so. I've been to the Poly to eat once and it looks beautiful. I don't know if I'll ever have an opportunity to stay there again but I sure plan to enjoy this stay. Can't wait for the trip. November seems too far away right now.

Hi Linda!!! :welcome:
We have never been on DCL. My dh and I were on carnival once. I am hoping this will be more fun. My kids have never cruised. We are really looking forward to it.

I also get seasick/motion sick so I will be trying bonine everyday on this trip. My sister and I kid about getting sick on the swings at the park, so I think she will need some bonine too!!

Its nice that you will get to know some people on the cruise before you go just by chatting on this thread!!!
Have fun planning!!
Colleen

We've been talking, debating, and waiting for months now to decide if we should do a DCL cruise this year, and as of about an hour ago, WE ARE BOOKED!!

Count us in for this cruise!!!

It's going to just be our family of 4. We have never cruised DCL. My husband and I did our first cruise last Sept. for our anniversary, but knew if we ever took the kids it would definately be DCL first. Now that we are booked, the obsession of deciding what to do at ports takes over. I am excited as is our kids. We have done Disney World a million times, but this is a whole different ballgame. We are also going to spend a couple days after the cruise in the world, but not quite sure where we are staying. I guess that will be tomorrow's project.

Can't wait to get to know everyone.

I haven't gone through and read all the pages yet for this group, but I might need some suggestions of where to stay around port.

Happy sailing to everyone!
Craig, Kristen, DD5, DD9

Welcome Kristen! :cheer2:

How exciting! Glad you could join us. It's our first DCL trip too- and we also went on our first cruise last fall for our anniversary! :3dglasses My kids are more excited about the cruise than even WDW! Can't help you with where to stay around the port as we will be at WDW pre and post cruise.

What are your thoughts on Nassau? Since we've never been there it's new to us.

Who else among us are DCL newbies?

Christine

Oh Nassau, the place that has been driving me crazy with what to do. Of course I want to do it all, but the budget seems to overrule the wants. I've always wanted to go to Atlantis and am excited this is our chance to "check it out" but I'm not sure really what part we want to check out. My DD5 won't be big enough to ride the slides (even though she is a great swimmer) so I'm guessing the water park is out of the question (too cheap to pay if all of us can't do everything). I know we will be doing the beach at Castaway Cay so do we want to do the beach twice? Might have to ask the kids. So that only leaves a few other things on property. But then again I think "I could just book a room at the Comfort Suites and then have my choice of what we want to do. Guess I'm just gonna compare prices of "wants" at Atlantis vs. booked room and everything that goes along with that and see which one is better on the budget.

I would love to hear what everyone else is doing for their Nasseu day. And I know there is more than just Atlantis, but I hate to pass of a chance to check it out incase we want to go there one day for its own vacation.

I'm sure I will have more questions as time gets closer.

Kristen

Atlantis looks nice! I have a friend who stayed there with his wife and kids for a week last year. Cost them like 10 grand! But he says it was the best vacation.

I can't afford to do the day passes since we're spending 7 days at WDW as well as the cruise. Maybe on a future cruise!! ;)

Hello all,

I am trying also trying to figure out what to do on the Nassau day - I have read some reports where it is recommended to just stay on the boat and enjoy the day there. I read that there were tons of pushy people trying to get you to buy their stuff. I was orginally wanting to do the Historical Tour since I have never been there and might not ever get there but I have not read many good reviews about this. So now I am not sure what to do - has anyone ever taken a tour like this or is anyone going to take it in November?

Dawn

If you are interested in history you could do the tour. There is also a self-guided walking tour that you can do that is on Frommers web site. Don't know if I can post the link or not but it is a tour and map of the points of interest. http://www.frommers.com/destinations/newprovidence/0251010008.html I went into town to shop last time I was there but it wasn't that great. Most of the pushy people seem to be right around the dock. Traffic is interesting so you have to really watch when you try to cross a street. I don't plan to leave the ship this time. I really don't want to go shopping and there are things onboard that I want to do while the ship is relatively empty. I hope this was some help to you.

Thanks Linda, that self tour is kinda neat. Maybe we can hit some of that if we decide to beach it at the British Colonial Hilton. :confused3 I think we have settled on a beach for sure, the jury's still out on pirate museum- yes or no. Anyone know a good local place to eat around there?

Christine

The DW ::MinnieMo & I pirate: booked today! :cool1: :cool1:

I hope you don't think we're bad parents, but we're going to leave the 2x DS's at home with Grandpa & Grandma. :scared: :ssst:

We've not had any weekends / holidays away together  for several years, so when I mentioned a day at the F&W :drinking1 festival at Epcot, followed by a short cruise, DW jumped at it! :woohoo:

See you all on board? :yay:

Now I can go back to full commando planning :surfweb: mode!

Has anyone done the dolphin swim excursion? My DD is 6 and even though she doesn't know about the cruise yet (2 weeks before the big reveal:cool1: ), she has mentioned several times that she'd like to swim with dolphins. I'm not sure if she would find it scary. I'd hate to pay for it and then have her not want to do it.

Any advice?:confused3
