November 9, 2008 4 day Wonder- who's in?

Hi everyone,
Dumb question, are you allowed to bring your drinks on board? Where do you pack them? I always thought it was a no go thing. Is anyone else taking the Magic Express to the ship? Last year we went to the AK in the morning and the bus picked us up around noon. This year I was thinking of just leaving from the hotel. It made for a long day for DD, she fell alseep during the sail away party.

I was wondering the same thing about the liquor stores being open on Sunday morning. Does anybody know? If so, what time? :confused3

We're actually arriving Friday night, staying at Carribbean Resort (Friday / Saturday) We're doing Epcot all day Saturday, but I know that I will have no desire to go on a pre-cruise booze hunt anytime Saturday. :rotfl2:

Historically, we alway spend the night at the Port somewhere, and I just do my booze buying the day before we cruise. :cool2:

This Epcot side trip has thrown my scheduling all out the window! :rolleyes1 I suspect my DW will not be to sympathetic to my cause.

Yep, we'll be food-and-wine festival-ing ourselves pre-cruise! Two of my favorite things... food, and wine! We'll be there on Thursday and probably again awhile on Saturday!! :drinking1 We just are wondering about Sundays to buy any liquor.

Yes, you can bring booze on this ship with you! It sure saves on the bar bill? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
You are supposed to carry it on with you, in your carry on, but I have heard of others that have checked a case a beer. (Just putting one of their bag tags on it) Also, they say no roll on coolers, but I have also heard of people doing just that.
The one thing you need to remember, no ice in the cooler, as they run your bag through the x-ray machines, and ice is a no-no.

Silly Little Pixie Perhaps we'll see you drinking :drinking1 / eating popcorn:: your way around the world on the Saturday? party:
My favorite hang out is England!:woohoo: , but then I also like the food / wine stands at Canada  , France :cheer2: , Germany :thumbsup2 , Italy ::yes:: , South Africa :jumping3: , China :teeth: , Mexico :hyper: , USA :yay: , etc. Well, you get the picture! :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Well now you've just gone and made me thirsty!!!

Yep, we'll be there! Wahoooo! Hopefully the kids will find the World Showcase as thrilling as DH and I will...:rotfl: Oaky, they'll like the eating part!

Hope everyone had a great weekend! We're just 7 weeks away now ( as if you didn't already know!!!).

We went to the Magic Kingdom last night for a few hours and it looked so pretty decorated for Halloween! Nothing like a Mickey Bar while watching the fireworks to soothe the soul.:goodvibes

I've tried to get caught up on all the posts, but am still wondering if a DIS meet and/or Fish Extender gift exchange is planned? :confused3

But how are you getting from the airport to PC. Add that into the total cost. Parking is sometimes included in the cost of the hotel.:thumbsup2 I got a ressie for my sister for a midsize for $175 for 9 days.

Sorry Cellthing,
I didn't read your post properly. I thought you wanted the car for while you were at WDW. Sorry about that. I was just checking prices again for my sister from budget and got $57 for a day for a midsize or full size. But for after the cruise they wanted $200 for 4 days:scared1:

Do you know what other rental car companies are at PC? The only one I know of is budget.

Could you let me know if you find a better deal. My Dsis is coming in the night before and needs a car for 4 days after.

I am getting soooooo excited:yay: :yay: :yay: Our cruise is finally coming!! We have been talking about it for nearly a year.:woohoo:

Nothing has been planned so far... but that would be really fun! Both a meet and fish extenders... anyone else in? It would be fun to make a FE, I think. I plan on trying to make a few magnets, too.

Christine

I would be interested in a meeting but I'm afraid I will have to decline on the FE as I have too much on my plate right now and I have a way of getting carried away. Right now I am busy making magnets for 4 cabin doors!!:thumbsup2

I would love to meet everyone as well, I am not sure what FE are, so if you can point me in the right direction about making one, count me in. I have put the number of days left before our cruise on the message board in the kitchen. I can hardly wait!!!

Spoke to the DW ::MinnieMo said she would love to do the *FE exchange. We really don't care about receiving anything (remember we're leaving the 2X DS's at home this time), but would love to give out gifts to any other families that participate in it.

I'm all up for a Dis Meet as well. Just state a time and place. :thumbsup2

inukshuk*A FE (Fish Extender) hangs from the fish next to your door, hence fish extender. The fish is their for correspondences that DCL may drop off from time to time. Most of these (FE's) have several pouches, and in FE exchanges, families drop off little goodies in each others FE. Here is a thread showing some pictures of FE's. And, you'll note that you don't have to make your own, there are many available at great prices on E-Bay. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607
Our DS's loved to check our FE each day, and loved all the booty they received! :goodvibes

I'm excited there's some interest in the FE (fish extender) exchange! Our May cruise was the first time we had done it and was soooo much fun. As stated in the previous post, the fun of it is just coming back to your room to find a small treasure hiding in those pockets - whatever it is! The "treasures" can be as simple as candies, something representative of your home town/state, postcards, etc. There are many threads on the board about the FEs and you can get plenty of ideas that way.
And, remember, the Fish Extender doesn't have to be fancy. We've seen decorated gift bags and other things that do the job just as well.
Here's a picture of ours. It's smaller than it looks, only about 8"w x 21"l. I cheated, I'm not crafty, I bought it on ebay from a very nice DISer who does a great job.:thumbsup2

As I was in my photobucket account, thought I'd post a pic of our door with the FE to give you an idea what the fish and a fish extender look like.

Oooh, Donna I love it! Yours is so cute. I can't decide if I want to try to make a FE, or just buy one... hahahaha... I am pretty crafty, but not really that handy with sewing. It is just straight lines, though! LOL!!! I can't do the fancy embroidering.

I've collected a few things for magnets, but haven't printed any out yet. To those that have made them before, did you just do it all on magnetic paper, or on regular paper, laminate and add magnets? What works best? I need to get crackin' on those. I'd like to surprise my family with them/ ;)

Christine

Christine,
I bought some cheap photo paper from the dollar store to print my pics out on and then stuck little pieces of magnets(from craft section at walmart) on the back in the corners. I was going to laminate them and then realized it would cost too much esp for a 4 night cruise. I think they will hold up fine.
Best of luck.:thumbsup2

I have used magnetic paper in the past, but it gets pricey. The ones from the last cruise are all paper with magnetic tape. While I didn't do it last time, I understand laminating is relatively inexpensive at Staples and they charge per sheet - keeping in mind that if you have many smaller size signs, they can be combined on one sheet and then cut to shape.

Hi Donna,
Do you remember the name of the Diser who made your FE. I love it, and would like to try and order one from them if possible.
Thanks
Jenn

Is there a FAQ somewhere? How exactly does this get organized? Do you bring a gift for each day or just one gift per paticipating stateroom to give on a designated day? I would be interested and although I can sew, I don't know if I'll have time before the cruise to make my own FE. Also might be interested in a meet if it can be coordinated.

Hi Linda -

I think I can answer a few of your questions. First, the FE need not be a "fancy" one - we've seen gift bags, etc used. As I said before, I am not crafty or a seamstress so I cheated and purchased mine.
As for "rules", there are no officially set rules but ....

... generally a list is made of all those DISers who would like to participate and the list is distributed, privately, to those DISers with staterooms numbers so everyone knows where to go. This list will include how many people and kids, if any, in each stateroom which is helpful for pre-planning FE gifts. The challenge comes with making last minute (even at Port!) changes due to upgrades, etc, in staterooms. That can usually be finalized at the DIS meet, if necessary.

There are no rules on how many gifts and when. Only on some very large FE lists (I hear the recent 5-night cruise had over 100 staterooms doing it!) do they break into teams, for affordability - and to not spend the whole cruise delivering gifts! What and when you want to give is entirely up to you. Some do one gift for the cruise, some do several or daily gifts. Sometimes we got a gift that was for everyone in our stateroom, sometimes individual ones and sometimes ones just for the kids. Participating does not obligate anyone to give. It's a just a fun-spirited way of spreading a little DIS magic. Also, gifts are not supposed to be expensive - just little trinkets. Again, browse through some FE threads, you'll find tons of ideas - from simple candies to creative items like custom magnets, pins, lanyards, scrapbooks, etc. Many try to bring something representing where they live. It's intended to be FUN, not stressful!

As for organizing, if there's a list started for everyone on our cruise, that's a good place to start. If not, I'd be happy to get one going.

Happy Friday, Y'all!

We've had fabulous weather here in Central Florida this week. Low to mid 80s with low humidity and high 60s at night. Perfect in my book.

Have a great weekend. Just about 6 weeks to go! :sail:
