Hi Everyone,

I had a busy morning/early afternoon, and am home now with the kids and we are all just relaxing before a busy evening ahead of us! I got caught up on the posts from yesterday and today! I love reading this board.... it's a fun break in my day, and a really fun excuse to stop each day and think about our cruise. It'll be fun to meet you all!

I'm being efficient and responding/commenting to a lot of people's posts in one post:

So we finally got some rain! Not that it stopped the temp from rising to 101. Dh is all moved down to Galveston for his surgery rotation, which makes it very lonely at home. :sad1: On the other hand I suddenly have lots of free time and have made myself a honey do list, somehow when i finish one thing i seem to add three more...

Now the answer to the burning question of surprise fast passes: Its something Disney does now. Randomly fast pass machines will spit out an extra surprise fast pass when you put your card in the machine to get a fast pass. So you actually get 2 fast passes from one machine, one for the ride you want and an extra one for some other ride in the park. It is random as to when they do it, the machines spit out a certain number of extra passes and then i guess it switches to somewhere else. Also sometimes cast members are assigned a magical moment where they give out fast passes.
I have gotten dinosaur passes at Mt. Everest, Test track at sorin. One day at MK my sister and i had the magic touch, every fast pass we got we also got a surprise one, and it was a busy day! We got a space mountain fast pass from Buzz and Space was all out of fast passes! There is no guarantee to get one and no predicting where they will happen but its soo fun when it does.

Kathy (loves to run) tell Ryan i hope he feels better.
alyssa

I am sure you miss your DH! I am just like you, though. When my DH travels, I get busy and get all sorts of projects done at home. It keeps me busy and helps pass the time so I don't think about how much I miss him. :) What type of medical field (if you don't mind me asking) is your DH going into?

That is SO cool about those surprise fast passes!!! It makes me want to go back to WDW to try to get some! I have never seen them before. We were at WDW in January. I guess we were not one of the lucky ones. I remember one year, though, we went to Disneyland, and they were doing this special thing at the Test Track where when you get your little driver's liscense ticket, if on the back it said you got a free gift, you won a free gift. They were only doing it for a very short time. But, it was kind of like a lottery... Well, the first time we went on the Test Track, BOTH of my kids got a "free gift" on the back of their driver's liscense. So, we went and picked it up (it was a limited edition test track car (toy car), and was really nice). So, then we went back on test track later that day, and that time I got the "free gift" on my driver's liscense. When we went to pick it up, the lady remembered us and told me that we were VERY lucky to have gotten 3 because most people did not even get one. THEN, the NEXT day, we went on Test Track again, and my DH and Tyler (our oldest son) got the free gift on their driver's license!! HAHA!! We ended up with 5 of them!!! The lady at the store told us it was like 1 in a million chances that we'd end up with so many. I guess we got super lucky on that trip. :) So, kind of like all your secret fast passes you got in one trip at WDW.

Kathy,
I have several Christmas door signs. Will send you some later today.:goodvibes

Hope Ryan feels better soon and NOBODY else gets it!!

Kathy

Thanks for emailing them to me!! They are all SOOOO cute! I'm goign to surprise my inlaws and make one for their door and for our door on our Christmas cruise.

Thanks for the well wishes for Ryan... he is all better now! Phew!! Nobody else is sick... hoping it stays that way.

OK - I still need to do some more work on these. The fonts are different between my work computer's older version of Office and my home computer. I also ordered some ink for our printer because the drafts on paper are printing funny but this is a start. Here's one magnet - full size sheet.

Karen:flower3:

I LOVE your door signs!!!! We have some very creative folks in this group!! :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone for the well wishes for my Dad. My parents live in England and so my dad gets to go on a waiting list for his surgery. They are not sure when he will get it done or if they are doing the by-pass or drilling the plaque out of the arteries.

We are getting ready to weather the hurricane this weekend, hopefully we won't get blown or washed away!!

I hope your dad isn't too far down on the waiting list and he can get his surgery soon! Again, I wish him well. I love England, by the way. Been there many times!

Fingers crossed for the hurricane!! Do you live in an area where you expect to be hit hard, or are your more inland? Hope all goes ok! We had a HORRIBLE wind storm here about 3 years ago in December. It was horrible, and in our area, there are many many evergreen trees, so the wind blew SOOOO many huge trees down and that caused power to go out everywhere. The area where I live (the eastern side of Seattle) was completely without power for 5 days, and some people didn't get power back on for 7 days. It was just chaotic... traffic lights weren't working, stores ran out of food, gas stations ran out of gas... it felt like we lived in a war zone! But, they got everything back to normal. Everyone still talks about the big windstorm! So, in some ways, I feel like I know what it'd be like to be in a hurricane! We were so lucky and did not have any trees fall on our house, but our neighbors did.

Kathy,
Never saw a hot tub at the Hyatt.
Maybe they have a work out room where it might be?

Kathy

Ok, this makes me feel better. When I read some people's posts on the main board that the Hyatt MCO has a hot tub, I thought I had lost my mind or was just plain blind because we looked when we were there for a hot tub and never found one. So, not sure why people on the main board said there was a hot tub. I wish there was, though... I love to sit in hot tubs!! :)

I know only to well about being seasick and bus sick and car sick and plane sick! :worship: You name it and I have been it. My husband refuses to do shore excursions on the islands on buses with me. They have been the worst. We have to get a private car. On our honeymoon in 1992, on our first cruise I was sick (some wedding night lol) within an hour and he wanted to get off the ship at the first port. I refused and put a scop patch on. Anyway, you can see I am serious about this! I have to tell you though that I am so much better with it now. There are two things that I tried that are amazing to me and I rarely get seasick anymore! The first one is the relief band that is out there. They are an electronis device that looks like a watch and stimulates the acupuncture point for nausea. They are hard to find now but you may find them on ebay. They are expensive! My Dh got me one for morning sickness when I was pregnant. I always take a few with me on a cruise. I must have one as a backup if one breaks. The second thing is a video my Dh found in a sailing magazine. It is a video that shows you a series of exercises to induce the motion sickness. The goal is to get your body to accomodate to the feeling and get used to it. It is a really great investment! An engineer from NASA invented the method. The web site is www.pumamethod.com. I have started doing these already for my cruise in November! I always had to wear a scopalamine patch when I cruised but since 2004, when I got this video, I can go on a cruise with my relief band and hardly ever get sick! It is the most wonderful feeling.:cheer2: The first time we cruised and I didn't wear a patch my Dh was sure I would be sick, the gulfstream was rough. Joy of Joys, I was fine! I really had to share this info with you! I know what being sick is like and I really hope you try the video and have success like I did! I do take an herb called Clear motion and Digestive Aid once in awhile. This also can be purchased on ebay. Well, I know I am no longer going on this cruise and am going on NCL instead but I still have not drug myself away from the disboards. They are to much fun.:yay:

Thanks for this tip! I know this will be useful for anyone who has seasickness issues. Nobody in our family gets seasick or motion sick, so I'm glad for that, because I know it must be horrible. But, hopefully what you wrote will help someone who does have seasickness issues!!

Hi Everyone,
.

Kathy: My birthday is next weekend (September 3) and my husband turned 30 in July of this year. This cruise is a birthday gift from us to us ...so to speak :yay: Happy Birthday in advance to you :cheer2:

To add to our discussion, I have the best baby ever and his name is Big Pun and he is a rottweiler...i love him like it is nobody's business

Jai

Happy Birthday to you both next month. Going on a cruise for a birthday present is the best idea ever... I know someone else on this board who is going on a cruise for their 40th birthday. :rolleyes1 hee hee. :)

Thank you! I changed their outfits too for Christmas and Thanksgiving. Plus Halloween.:goodvibes

Kathy

Very cute!!!!

I have now scrolled thru a bunch of this thread and understand better than in my first post.

I will be with my husband, kids Jenna (age 7) and Cade (age 10) and my Mom who will be celebrating her 70th birthday - on Nov 3rd. I saw several other Nov 3 b-days too!

Melissa

My oldest son, Tyler, will be turning 11 on November 3! Yay! Yes, I think there is one other child having a birthday on November 3 on this board. So, again, lots of celebrations happening! :thumbsup2

We had our first grandchild last August and being a grandparent is just the best thing ever, isn't it? He is a little darling-I'm already planning on getting one of those Nemo sandbuckets for him on CC. We have a place at the beach in Maryland (and hopefully it will still be there after Irene!) and he loves playing in the sand. Was it Dani and her family that was headed to the NJ for their vacation this week? I hope you are able to go after the storm passes-it looks like beautiful weather once it goes by. My husband is out buying extra batteries and a few things in case we lose power here in PA. We are expecting wind and heavy rain. Today is beautiful so when he gets home I think I will go for a long walk and enjoy the sun.
Have a safe weekend east-coasters!

Sandy

My parents say the same thing... that being a grandparent is the best ever! They have 8 grandchildren and two great grand children!!

Good luck with the hurricane!!! I sure hope everyone on the east coast who will be hit with it will all be OK and that your houses and properties will not be damaged. Let us all non-East coasters know how it goes! Good luck!!

I may be the only one who has no clue, but.....what the heck is Palo?

I finally finshed going back through all the 35 pages :surfweb: and feel kind of up to speed, but now I have new questions, like the Palo one. And what's with all the abbreviations? DD, DS, DH? What's the D? We too are staying at the Hyatt but get in late the night of Nov 4th. Anyone know how late that cool roof-top pool stays open? I guess I can call the hotel and ask. :lovestruc

Good for you for reading all 35 pages!! Kind of like reading a novel, huh, but a novel about a bunch of people excited about going on a Disney Cruise! :yay:

Looks like you got your questions answered.... those abbreviations got me at first, and there are still some I don't know, but Kathy's (gma X4) list is so helpful! wow, so many abbreviations!!

Heading to the beach in a few minutes but I will check in this evening, (west coast time).
Love lap tops that can travel with me!!:goodvibes

Kathy

Have great and safe travels!!! Enjoy your time!!

Hello everyone. Glad to see all the people on the board! We watched Pirates of the Caribbean tonight with Peter, he was about half into it. Also, Karen did our magnetic signs and here they are on our fridge:

Otherwise, we're glad the hurricane missed us, but the coast here is getting hammered including a few places I've vacationed a fair bit. Gonna be a long weekend on the east coast.

Stay safe everyone,

Scott

Hi all,
made it safely to the beach. Got a nice upstairs room with a great ocean front view and a fire place:goodvibes We have always been downstairs before with no fireplace. Took the dogs for a great run on the beach and now we are all tired out.
Getting ready to turn in for the night.

Scott, tell Karen she did a great job on the signs:thumbsup2
I havn't even started mine yet.

Back tomorrow,

Kathy

Thanks Kathy. We're getting things done a little early. When you have a 5 year old time gets away from you sometimes so when I have some free time, I like to get a head start on my to do list. We are having some wind gusts but no rain yet from hurricane Irene. My aunt in NY - on the south shore of Long Island has to evacuate. She's nervous about the storm. I remember hurricane Gloria in the early 80s hitting LI. She's not been thru one up there - she lived in FL at the time. My brother is a Nassau County police officer and I hope he stays safe. 1st responders get called in to do everything in these type of emergencies.

Scott booked us reservations at Palo for Sunday night and Mon brunch. Our DS will be going to "Mickey's clubhouse" we keep telling him. He's very into the show and so he gets really excited to here that. Then he tells me "but I want to hang out with you guys".

Has anyone had to deal with child anxiety on a previous cruise? I assume once they see the club and all the activities they get drawn in and then the parents can leave? We plan to go with him to check it out and stay for an hour or so...then try leaving him for a bit the 2nd day. Any advice from moms who've done it before?

DH and DS are watching the Lion King. Not sure who is the bigger fan!

Thx

Thanks Kathy, i hope my dad isn't to far down on the waiting list too:)

We are about an 1 hour inland for the coast, it seems like the hurricane has been downgraded, so that is good. We have put all the patio furniture away and we are going to tie the trampoline to something, maybe the big oak tree in the back yard! The main concern i think is that it seems to have done nothing but rain here for the last month, so the ground is saturated, so even 45 mph winds will take down trees and power lines!

Hello everyone,

We have a beautiful sunny day here on the Oregon coast and very little wind which is very unusual. Normally the wind on the beach is so strong you can hardly stand up. Peter saw a whale off our balcony with the binoculars last night. There are usually lots of sea lions off the coast here too.
We arnt far from the Sea Lion caves which is a huge tourist attraction here where literally thousands of sea lions live.

We took an evening walk on the beach last night and one early this morning because it was so nice. Our hotel room has a fire place but tis been too warm to use it;) Thats the first time that has happened. Its always cool enough for a fire place.

Karen, you can go into the club as a visitor at first so he can adjust to where everything is. You will have a beeper so if he wants you they can call you. But most find out once they get out of their site the counselors get them so busy they forget about you and do just fine. Having him make friends at our meet with someone close to his own age will help a lot. Just arrange for them to both be in the club at the same time the first time there, if possible.
He can meet other kids in person at our meet so he will know them before the club experience. At 5 he wont be e-mailing other kids but you can help him by sending messages to other kids and their parent can do the same.

I will send out the kids list by Monday evening. I was just waiting to see if any other parents give their ok for using e-mails. If not just PM them. I will include the posting names so it will be easy to keep track of who is who.

Back later, off to enjoy the sunny beach,

Kathy

Good morning!

Hope all of you in hurricane Irene's path are ok and will have no damage!!

Kathy, glad you made it to the beach ok and awesome you got a great room!!! Which town are you at again? When you write about being on the coast I can totally visualize it all now!! It is so peaceful there, and yes...amazing g there is no wind! Very unusual.

Karen, your DS will love the club!! I think there is just uncertainty because he doesn't know what to expect, but according to my boys, it is a kid's paradise!! We have to drag our boyd out of the club. :D

But they have wave phones on the ship now, so when he is in the club, you take your wave phone with you, and if he wants you, they will send a text msg via the wave phone... So there is never a worry on your part if he wants you to come get him. Yes, you can go in the club and spend time with him, talk to the counselors so everyone feels comfortable. Also, every day in the navigator, there will be a detailed schedule of everything going on for kids...what time & location. We bring a highlighter with us and every morning first thing, our boys will go through the navigator and highlight everything they want to do...maybe your ds can do this to get him excited about all he can do and that might ease the separation anxiety. :D

Kathy

Kathy,
We are at Yachats. Its a ways down the coast,to the south of you. Its a small town about 20 or 25 miles from Florence.

Strange question....Does anyone know if there is a place to see sea turtles in the Cape Canaveral area? My son is really into them and I thought we might be able to find some. I talked to someone at Jetty Park area and at the Canaveral Lock (he said they get more small turtles, dolphins, manatees, and such in the lock, but not usually sea turtles). Just wonder if anyone has ever seen them or know where we could find some -- we have some extra time the day we return from the cruise. Thanks!

Melissa

Sorry Melissa, I dont know about Sea Turtles, just a Manatee preserve just down the road from the Radisson Hotel in Cocoa beach.
You might want to post your question on the main forum page here. That way hundreds of people will see it and you will have a better chance of getting an answer.

Hopefully someone here can help, but just in case it never hurts to post the question over there too.:thumbsup2

You can contact The Sea Turtle Preservation Society and see if they have any tours scheduled while you are here. Sea Turtles are protected and all of us here in Brevard are very careful about when and where people get access to them. The Society does a WONDERFUL tour at night (which is when eggs are laid and/or when they hatch). I've lived here all my life and I know I've walked by nests without ever realizing it - until they taught me what to look for and how to be careful around the nest.

I don't mean to preach. Just trying to support a great place for a great tour that will protect the turtles and their habitat. Have fun!

Thats great information Carolyn, thanks.
I never thought about contacting the society like that. AWESOME idea:cool1:

People here are so great about helping everyone.

Have fun!

That is such a great organization! Very cool!

Where is this in relation to Orlando? I am totally unfamiliar with the geography in this area (except MCO, WDW and Port :) ).

It is south of the port. Not sure how far - 20 - 30 miles maybe. But they do the tours up and down the Brevard Coast. You don't meet at there location first. They tell you what beach to meet at.

Good morning everyone,

Its a bit cloudy but ok temps this morning at the coast. Will be taking the pups for their last walk on the beach in a few minutes, then pack up and head back home.

Hope everyone is having a good day today. Will check back this evening,

Kathy

Hi Everyone... Haven't had a chance to read everything since Friday. My plans had changed with my kids dad and he couldn't take them on his weekend so I had to reschedule or cancel my plans for the weekend and take my kids to my parents up in Niagara Falls (2 hours from me). So I stayed at my parents for the weekend and they have no internet :(
I am back now the kids are staying with my parents for a week as I have to work. So I am back now, and heading to baseball. Just wanted to say hi and will read all the post tonight and tomorrow. Hope everyone is having a great weekend :)

Hi Tanya,

Good to hear from you. We just got home too, from the beach. I am almost unpacked but decided to stop and have some late lunch, then I will finish unpacking.

So I had a minute to say Hello to everyone.

Back tonight,

Kathy
