November 5th 2011 Eastern on the Magic

Danielle,
one gift per the week is what people give .:goodvibes. It would be way too much to do one a day.

Love the idea of the doggie life vest. Dogs can tire or be knocked unconscious too in an accident.

Kristi,
will get you some pictures sent out by tomorrow afternoon.
To answer your question most give one gift per cabin. A few throw in an extra gift for the kids. Its totally up to the person giving. Most do not sign their names to the gifts so nobody knows who gave what.
But occiasionally someone will make something home made and then they add their name to the gift.

I think we are up to 8 cabins participating so far. This is a small thread so we may get as many as 20 cabins by cruise time. I will continue ot sen dout updated list every 3 weeks until the cruise so everyone can see how many people are participating.:thumbsup2

Ok, this is weird. Trying to do a countdown ticker and can't get it right. But, just noticed I picked out the same as "GreensboroKG" and didn't even notice beforehand. I'm deleting after this post. If anyone knows how to get rid of the black box in the front, let me know.

Sorry Krista,
I never had a black box show up? It did take me 3 or 4 times to get mine right. Sometimes the Dis boards has problems and things dont work right too. So it may not be you. I would wait until morning and try again.

Evening everyone:)

Things have been pretty crazy for the last few weeks, so have not been on here to much.

My parents are no longer joining us on this cruise, my dad has to have heart surgery. It was a big decision on whether we should still go on the cruise without them, we decided to go ahead and go...

Kathy (mom x4) since you seem to be more organised than any of us, I was wondering if you could put a list together, of the kids that we have on board. I thought it maybe fun if we could start a kids board or something, so that they could get to know each other, before we cruise?

I promise to try harder and get on here at least once a day:)

Good morning everyone. Love the pix! We got a surprise Fast Pass in May for Buzz Lightyear so we went on twice in a row. Am hoping there won't be any lines when we go to MK the day before the cruise. Also hoping for good weather - no rain, no storms in the Carribbean so we all have a perfect cruise. The bahamas are getting pounded by Hurricane Irene. Hope Castaway Cay is ok.

CLJ1410 -- so sorry about your dad. My prayers are with him and your family.

Krista -- I will have Scott (DH) sign on later on comment on how he got the counter working. He did that not me but we both must have good taste for picking the same count down. :)

I am going to try to work on our magnets today. I am making full size ones - got Avery Magnet sheets (8.5 x 11) and will layout the designs in MS powerpoint with text. Am scanning the art from the Hallmark cards. Will let you know how it comes out. I am working from my home office today so it lets me multi-task while I do back to back conference calls.

Have a great morning everyone!

Hi Claire,
Nice to see your posting today. I knew you would come back to us, we are so irrestible:lmao:
Not sure i am all that organised but I try.;) Hope your dad is doing well now.

Yes I have all the kids and their ages and I am happy to send them out as a separate list to everyone. But in order for everyone to be able to contact each other I have a question.

Do you want me to include everyones e-mail addresses for you guys to use?
Or do you want to just PM each other by your posting names. Many dont have enough posts yet to send PMs and new people will also have that problem to start with.

I have everyones e-mail but will NOT send it out without everyones permission.
So if you guys can let me know I can make the list according to each persons preference of adding their e-mail or asking people ot PM them.

Then I will send all you parents out the list of kids so they can start making friends!!!:goodvibes

Good morning everyone,

we actually had a little rain last night. Plus the first thunder and lightning of the season. only got down to 65 last night. It will be 90 today so I am about to head out ot the store early today and Iwill post after I get back.

I am out in the country, so I have a 30 minute drive (one way) on the freeway to even get to a descent store. Hard to buy ice cream in the summer and get home before its soup.
I have a mini mart at a truck stop thats closer but only use it for bread and milk during thw week. They are so expensive plus very limited in what they carry. Mostly snacks for people traveling on the freeway.

So I am out of here for the next 3 hours.
Will post when I return,

Kathy

Happy Thursday :cool1:
Last night we had tornado warnings in our area so the kids were a little scared. We were watching Big Brother (hoping Danielle doesn't get kicked off tonight) and it popped up on the screen. So I just closed the blinds so the kids couldn't see it, but they could hear it. It was all ok, nothing happened just a really bad storm.

Krista: For the ticker I have no idea, i put one on my email but didn't figure it out for here yet...

Claire: Sorry to hear about your father hope all will be well and glad your still on-board!

Karen: Love to see pics too of your door signs when done. Still got to get on to that. I have to do mine at work I don't have a color printer at home. I work for a school board office so the teachers will be back next week to work so it will be getting busy for me again... I really should get them done next week!

Goood morning everyone (or afternoon for you East Coasters ;))...

Well, today I had to cancel all of my plans for the whole day because Ryan, my 9 year old, woke up at 3 AM sick. So, that means I have been up pretty much since 3 AM. Soooo, today Ryan and I are staying home. Tyler was able to go this morning to a sporting event he had planned on, so that is nice he could get out of the house (and keeping my fingers crossed that Tyler (my 10 soon to be 11 year old) will stay healthy, as well as DH and I. At least it's really sunny and warm today, so Ryan and I can go outside in the back yard to get some fresh air when he's up to it. :thumbsup2

But, this icon :surfweb: pretty much is what I look like right now (except I'm not as yellow and not as round :lmao:).

I just got caught up from yesterday. Here are my responses/questions....

I think you have inspired me to do one of those count downs... I'll have to figure it out. I have no idea how to do it... do you go into your profile to make it?? I have always thought those count downs are so cute. :)

I'm so sorry about your parents not joining you, but especially about your dad! My DH's dad (my FIL) had 5-way bipass heart surgery about 8 years ago!! It was quite an ordeal, but saved his life. So, I know all about heart surgery and what it entails. Hopefully he will do well, and recovery really well! :thumbsup2

I also like the idea of starting a way for the kids to communicate. Both of my boys have been asking about what kids I know will be on this cruise.

Good morning everyone. Love the pix! We got a surprise Fast Pass in May for Buzz Lightyear so we went on twice in a row. Am hoping there won't be any lines when we go to MK the day before the cruise. I still don't know what a Surprise Fast Pass is. How do you get one?? Does it just come out of the machine when you get a regular fast pass? I LOVE the Buzz LIghtyear ride!!! I also love the Toy Story ride at Hollywood Studios, but that ride always has the LONGEST lines, so fast passes are really the only way to go with the Toy Story ride.

I also hope Castaway Cay is OK. It looks, though, like it's right in the eye of the hurricane :sad2: so, if that is the case, I hope they can resotre the island fast for all the upcoming cruisers. I am sure by the time we cruise, the things they can restore will be restored, but it's beach erosion, and damage to the land itself that will just take time to restore itself. About 7 years ago, we went to Aruba for 10 days on vacation. We went in November, but August of that year, there was a huge hurricane (I forget which one... maybe Ivan??) that hit Aruba and that part of the Caribbean. In November when we were there, so many of the beaches that were supposed to be awesome beaches were eroded, or really rocky (when they weren't supposed to be), and some smaller beaches that i had read about that were a MUST go to were actually washed away. So, even though Aruba had restored the structures/buildings, etc, the beaches were not as nice as they normally are. But, we still had a great time, and heck... coming from Seattle where most of our beaches are rock beaches, we still thought the beaches were awesome there, but the locals, or the tourists there who had been to Aruba before, or had come from areas where they have nice beaches were complaining about how the beaches were no good. So, I guess it's all relative depending on where you live. That said, if Castaway Cay's beaches are damaged, I won't care because just the fact I can be on a private island in the Bahamas is pretty much all I need to be super excited! And, knowing Disney, they will do everything in their power to make the island just as awesome as it always is.

I told DH that as long as the Castaway Cay 5K course does not get washed away, I'm happy. :) I just can't wait to do the Castaway 5K. :yay:

Tanya, a couple years ago I flew to Toronto, and our plane had to circle for about 40 minutes above Toronto because a tornado had formed where the airport is! They had to close down the entire Toronto International Airport for about an hour.... no planes could land or take off. It was the craziest sight ever when we finally landed... there was SUCH a bottle neck of planes on the ground that could not take off, but others that had landed but had no gate to park at because other planes were taking that space, they started to line up planes on the tarmac, including my plane. We had to sit on the tarmac for 2 hours while Air Traffic Control was able to get the planes off the ground, and the ones waiting for gates to open up to their gates... we finally got a gate... I was SO ready to get off that plane. I took a picture from my window of all the planes lined up... I'll have to see if I can find it. I had never seen anything like it, but if you shut a major international airport down, then it's just a HUGE HUGE bottle neck.

Anyway, I was really surprised that there was a tornado, but then I found out that it's not that uncommon to have tornados in Ontario. Intersting!

I'm glad that it was just tornado warnings and there was not a real tornado! Do you guys get tornado warnings pretty often, and have you actually had a tornado in your town/city you live in??

Ok, I think that is about it.

Oh, and all this talk about door magnets, I might make a door magnet for our family and also one for our Christmas cruise in December. Kathy (gma X4), I think I remember you having a really neat DCL Christmas door magnet or image. I'm wondering if I could get that from you and then I can make one for us and for my inlaws (and surprise my inlaws) for our Christmas cruise. :)

Take care, everyone!

Kathy

All this weird weather! I hope everyone is ok as Irene starts to approach and if any storms are in your neck of the woods. We have sunny and 82 today and very little humidity. It feels like Fall in the southeast. They said that it will get hotter this weekend and we in GSO only have a 20% chance of t-storms from Irene. We could really use the rain -- not the rest of the storm.

I think Disney would have Castaway Cay all cleaned up and just hope there isn't too much erosion. Scott and I took Peter to Great Exuma about 4 1/2 years ago and they told us they hadn't been hit by a hurricane for 40+ years. The island was just beautiful.

I scanned the cards and will start working on a magnet later today. Will post the results so you can see.

Happy afternoon everyone.

Kathy - I am ok with you giving out our email in the FE list. Thx!

Sorry I haven't been posting nearly enough on this board. I am more on the Cruise Critic board for the same cruise.

Getting excited and feel free to put my kids on the kids list you email out.

So we finally got some rain! Not that it stopped the temp from rising to 101. Dh is all moved down to Galveston for his surgery rotation, which makes it very lonely at home. :sad1: On the other hand I suddenly have lots of free time and have made myself a honey do list, somehow when i finish one thing i seem to add three more...
clj1410: I am soo sorry to hear about your dad. My father in law had to have a quadrouple bypass so i can understand your anxiety. I always say its my fault though because he had his heart attack right after DH told him he was going to propose to me. (DH is an only child). Seriously, i was very surprised at how quickly he recovered and it has been 3 yrs now and he is doing very well. He comes down and helps us fix fences!
Now the answer to the burning question of surprise fast passes: Its something Disney does now. Randomly fast pass machines will spit out an extra surprise fast pass when you put your card in the machine to get a fast pass. So you actually get 2 fast passes from one machine, one for the ride you want and an extra one for some other ride in the park. It is random as to when they do it, the machines spit out a certain number of extra passes and then i guess it switches to somewhere else. Also sometimes cast members are assigned a magical moment where they give out fast passes.
I have gotten dinosaur passes at Mt. Everest, Test track at sorin. One day at MK my sister and i had the magic touch, every fast pass we got we also got a surprise one, and it was a busy day! We got a space mountain fast pass from Buzz and Space was all out of fast passes! There is no guarantee to get one and no predicting where they will happen but its soo fun when it does.
Grandma Kathy: The Shark is the living seas at epcot. And the dust pan is the one they use to clean with so sometimes it is in a cast member's hand, but usually this one is at the front just past the where they count you as you enter, i have also seen it up next to where you get the glasses though. I love looking for hidden details and often send ppl ahead of me bc i take so long appreciating things. Dh puts up with it while rolling his eyes.
I have to appear in court tomorrow (as a witness, yay for new experinces ). Which means i am off work so no posting for me tomorrow. On the bright side though there is internet down with DH so when i go visit him i can check the board and post on the weekend!
Hope everyone has a good weekend and Kathy (loves to run) tell Ryan i hope he feels better.
alyssa

Kathy,
I have several Christmas door signs. Will send you some later today.:goodvibes

Hope Ryan feels better soon and NOBODY else gets it!!

Hoping Irene doesn't damage Castaway Cay but I'm praying we don't have a hurricane brewing Nov. 5th. I know someone who cruised 2 weeks after ours, 2 yrs ago and they changed ports due to a hurricane. Could you imagine tendering. In St. Thomas with one out there? By the way I Just learned from the posts, that we are tendering there. Not happy about that, that will be when I get sea sick!

I love the MCO Hyatt, and we'll be staying there again on Nov 4. But, I have a question about the pool, if you know. When we were there last, we did not find a hot tub (thought there would be one), but I was reading some threads on the main boards about the MCO Hyatt, and people menetioned the roof top pool and the hot tub. :confused3 A few people mentioned a hot tub. Do you know where the hot tub is?? Or, were we just completely blind and it was right in front of us and we didn't see it??

Even looking at the picture of the roof top pool, I don't see it. Weird. We love hot tubs, and I remember looking forward to sitting in it after our long flight, but were dissapointed to not find one.

Great pictures, though!! They are very nice rooms! When you stay there, do you get the atrium view, or the runway view?
