November 10, 2007 - MAGIC - Eastern

Is anyone really following the DIS FAQ packing list that closely? Do I need suction cups with hooks or plastic clothes pins? If I brought everything that is suggested I would be packing 12 suitcases! I am really really going to try for 3 large with a rolling duffel for snorkel gear. Can it be done? There are 6 of us. My MIL is packing her own stuff.

We try to pack minimalistically. Clothes can be reworn (wear a shirt first for dinner, then later in the week for daytime). We don't skimp of underwear. And of course, being female, I have to bring shoes  .

Most of the other stuff on that list is just in case sort of stuff. One thing that I always brink is a light up travel clock, as I can't stand not knowing what time it is when I wake up during the night.

We usually pack 3 rolling bags and a garment bag for the 4 of us. You're kids are smaller, so you may be able to squeeze it in, but you may wind up needing another bag. My kids know that if they want to pack more stuff, they will wind up lugging the extra bag around, so they somehow manage to decrease what they take.

. . . Let's hope they don't run out of gingerbread mix this year (easy on the sample Woody.)
Hey, I was getting hungry, alright!?! How does one possibly survive on three meals a day, 24 hour room service, the Pirate Buffet, dessert buffet, and unlimited ice cream and soda. LOL!

Woody

So far, the list for the morning walk is:

Woody,
Lauri,
spoohs,
FrenchSnowWhite + DH,
Tink's Mommy,
flymv's DW, and
cnice.

Let's plan to meet on sea days at 7:30 a.m. outside the spa/fitness center. If you miss the meet time, join us on deck 4.

Woody
Just a reminder that we will be walking on sea days (Sunday, Monday, and Thursday). You are welcome to walk as few or as many laps as you like (no pressure here!). If you like, bring a bottle of water or a sport bottle (filled).

If you would like to join us, let me know. This is a great way to meet fellow DISers and share cruise tips.

We bring plastic clothes pins (from the dollar store). There is a retractable clothes line over the bathtub, and clothespins come in handy for drying swimsuits.

On our last cruise (a Costa Maya double dip), we had two carry-on roller bags and one duffel bag for the snorkel gear. It's do-able.

Woody.............make that FOUR families as a return from the Magic Double Dip last year! Yup.......we are here and goin' again...........haven't chimmed in a lot, but no matter.:goodvibes We loved our Double Dip and are so looking forward to doing another Eastern this time! It's our third 7 nighter all-together and possibly our last until the new ships are built.

I still will stand in line, however, and see/hear what the rebooking lady has to say about 2008's Thanksgiving cruise! I have braced myself for the sticker shock!:scared1:

Is anyone else goin' for rebooking onboard? If you are, I highly recommend you do it early in the cruise cause last year was a nightmare waiting in line and not enough DCL resources to make it smooth.

We are:

Myself, DH, DD (10), and DS (almost 8) traveling with another DIS family who has a 5 yo girl and a 9 yo boy plus other relatives who they splurged and bought a room for the aunts and the cousins!:woohoo: Wish I had that kinda' dough! Doctors can afford these things.,,,,,,,,,paying for their excursions, tips, etc too! WOW!:thumbsup2 Can I be related to these people in my next life?:confused3

SOOOOOOO looking forward to this cruise! Am packing like a mad woman starting tomorrow, as I finally have some days off.

:disrocks:

DIS NURSE from Oregon:rolleyes:

Well, we are up to SIX families who were on the Nov. '06 Double Dip! Our DFriends who are joining us also cruised with us last year. So did flymv, with whom we all had adjoining verandas.

Woody

If I want, can I stay in your cabin? I could stay in one of your walk-in closets, which sleep four comfortably.

Woody

Is it only four that the closets sleeps? I thought it was more than that...

I'm bringing a laundry kit. I figured it was better to be prepared since we need to use the "free" type of detergent and I didn't know what they sell on the ship. Plus, my husband probably won't pack enough clothes so he'll need to do laundry. Me, I pack enough clothes for both DS and I to survive for weeks without doing laundry. :rotfl:

It's finally November - I can barely concentrate today at work for being so excited about the calendar change. We're in the single digits now!

Woody, I think my wife will be joining us as well.

We leave next Friday. I am beyond excited! Packing is in full force now.

Obsessing a little bit with these DISBoards. While waiting on trick or treater last night I read through many great tip postings and made a huge list. I showed my daughter the magnet door ideas that people have done. She definetly wants to do a couple. She is very crafty and artistic. I forgot about these from our last cruise. Of course now I need to add magnetic paper to the list.

Having a real hard time focusing on work.

I was reading through one of the posting about informing their child's school about being out the week of our cruise. I wish I could do that. My DD(15)'s school strongly discourages puling a child out of school for vacation. I have my ex call her out of school with no reason. School can't ask due to privacy. To make matters worse my daughter had emergency appendix surgery 12 days ago. I'm feeling real guilty about pulling her out of school again, since she missed 6 days of school just over this week and last. Of course not guily enough to change my plans.

TwoKings, even though your DD has missed school lately, it sounds like both of you will benefit from a vacation after an emergency appendectomy! I know after my son was in the hospital two years ago I could have used a vacation - it's as stressful for the parents as for the child.

Everyone else: What's going on today - not much posting going on - is everyone pooped out from Halloween?! I'm tired, but hey, we're about to go on a cruise!! :cool1:

Anyone hear anything new on the storm? I hope Noel doesn't cause a lot of damage and/or injuries.

The cold that I have been fighting has finally gotten the better of me.:sad2:
But, on the other hand, we are cruising in 9 days!!!:cheer2: Hope everyone had a good Halloween and that your kids aren't on a crazy sugar high like mine are today!
