We are staying in a 1-Bedroom for 3 nights in April. Dh can't wait to go since we bought into DVC last year. I have looked at a million pictures of the resort and while it looks nice, I am not excited. I would much rather go back to BWV or try BCV or VWL. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions?

We stayed there at the end of September and like you, I was very sceptical about how "magical" it would be. But, we had a blast. It is really a very beautiful resort. The main pool is a lot of fun. It has the zero depth entry and an interactive water play area for the smaller kids. It has an gorgeous view of DD, and at midnight, you can get a great view of the fireworks at Pleasure Island. I'm sure you and your family will have a great time there! :wave2:

I was also skeptical when I saw the photos of SSR, but we found it to be MUCH better in person. The photos I've seen don't seem to do it justice.

I was worried too, especially after reading so many negative posts. Despite my fears, we had a fabulous stay there earlier this month! I agree with Pixiedusttravel, the pool and view of DTD were wonderful. We had lunch at AP twice and enjoyed it as well.

On a side note, I just realized that we vacation differently depending on where we are staying because every DVC Resort has something special to offer. For example, when we are at BWV or BCV, we tend to walk over to Epcot every evening. When we are at VWL, we take the boat to Magic Kingdom more often than drive or bus to the other parks. At OKW, I think we tend to visit every park equally and then enjoy the sense of coming "home" at the end of the day.

For this last trip to SSR, however, we spent a full afternoon at Downtown Disney, something we had never done before. I guess staring at it every morning and evening really inspired us to do some serious shopping! If we were slightly younger/childless, I think we would also have been inspired to go to PI as well. The walks there and back "home" were quite relaxing and enjoyable.

Keep an open mind; you might be surprised at how much you enjoy a different type of Disney vacation at your new "home."

How was the bus travel? I have heared that it was very slow. One reason we never stay at OKW is because of how long the buses take! Any insight would be great!

It was at least a 20-minute wait for the Magic Kingdom bus both to and from the resort. I know, because we had JUST missed it both ways! The bus was pretty full coming "home" from MK because (as posted in a DVC thread) loads of people took our bus to get to Downtown Disney. DD and I were fine though, since we were first in line for the bus.

The bus ride to Animal Kingdom takes pretty long, but I think that's the case from most DVC Resorts. I don't know about Epcot or Disney-MGM Studios because we drove our car there.

If you're asking how long the ride is from the Resort to and from the parks, it's about the same as it is from OKW. :(

No doubt about it, SSR does not deserve all the negative speculation it gets particulary on the DVC boards. It is unique just like all the other major DVC resorts are, but very enjoyable nonetheless.

We stayed in July and had a nice time. I don't care for the "outdoor" hallways, but that is part of the resort makeup. Only snafu we encountered was, we were in a lock off studio (may have been the 1st occupants). After leaving baggage in the room during the day, we took off and didn't return until about midnite - to no electricity. Maintenance came pronto and had to disturb the neighbors to get into their unit and reset the circuit breaker for our side. Man that guy looked sleepy!

There's noway you won't enjoy your stay.

I own at SSR and took my first trip home last June. Had a great time there--you won't be disappointed. I have stayed several places around the world by this was my first as a dvc member.

OKW--last oct--and next trip VWL and BCV

I agree that it gets a lot of negative things on the dvc board--more than it's share--you won't know until you personally try it for yourself

have a great time :earsgirl:

Last summer before we left WDW I made a point of driving over to SSR one afternoon. I was amazed at how beautiful this resort is. Of course the construction at the time was taking away from it a little but that should all be just about finished. When I was there the big green fences were up. Even then I thought it was wonderful and decided I would love to add it as one of our places to stay.

Actually I am planning to call my guide tomorrow about an add on at SSR before the rumored price increase.
