A couple of weekends ago DH and myself had a weekend away in Manchester to see Kylie. You might of seen the concert in the news as we were at the one that was cancelled after 40 mins.

Well we were staying @ the Midland hotel (very nice) and opposite the Gmex. On the Sunday we decided to see what was happening @ the gmex seen as we were so close. It was a travel show. As I went around I filled in a couple of the free competition.

Well this morningI have recieved a call from a chap from a resort company saying I've won a weeks holiday in an apartment for 6 people.
Me being very sceptical (sp?) was like is there anything I need to pay. He said there was a £65 charge for the gas and electricity. I asked if he could put something in writing. He said he would be happy to but I need to tell him which of the 3 resorts I would like to stop @ and also the dates I would like togo. He gave me his name and number and also the company website hertiageresorts . com. He said he would call in a few weeks to see if I knew when I would like to go.

Of course I have heard about the dreaded spanish timeshare horrors and that is in the back of my mind, but I am also quite excited. One of the resorts is in Marbella, and as it happens in 2 weeks Im going there, so I might check it out so to speak. :scratchin

Im really unsure what to make of it - I've honetly never won anything in my life
:confused3

Like you, I've never won anything in my life (apart from the DIS quizes, LOL) and I'd be suspicious too. It sounds as though congratulations could be in order, though - you at least know you entered something! :)

It would be wonderful if you have won a holiday but why 6 people? and why do you have to pay £65 for gas electricity?

The fact that you have to pay anything would prompt me to reject their kind 'offer' and 6 people is a weird number, wouldnt 2 (a couple) or 4 (a family) make more sense?

Having sad that, fingers crossed it all works out!

:yay:

I'd be suspicous too, although someone once told me that someone won a lot of money, thought it to be a joke and got NOTHING at the end..

My advice, seek someone to check it out for you in case it is a fraud. If it turns out OK, jump around on the sofa until the springs snap!!! :yay:

Congratulations on your win

I really hope that it is for real, unfortunately I am a great believer in 'If it sounds too good to be true, then it usually isn't'

Fingers crossed that you've won a great holiday

Congratulations. Let us know how it turns out. It would be wonderful if it s a free holiday. If it is a timeshare just say no. DVC is the only timeshare worth looking at!!! We often are told we have won holidays but all my leave at work is booked up so can never accept them so would be really interested to know if this is for real.

Looking forward to hearing the outcome.

Did they say anything about flights? If you have to buy them from their company they might charge you a lot for them.

you are right to be suspicious, but why not find out more? if you have to attend a timeshare meet when you're there - so what? you don't have to sign anything, also if you've got to pay the £65 up front and it all falls down, you can get it back through the small claims court. I'd be more suspicious if tehy were asking for a few hundred. As Claire says, though make sure you don't HAVE to buy their flighhts, even if you go at a school holiday time, you realistically shouldn't have to pay more than around £120 pp return flight, and a lot less out of school hols. good luck, and I hope its a big congrats.

My dad always said there's no such thing as a free lunch ~ hope this is genuine and then it's a big CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :cool1: :cheer2: :cool1:

Years ago, an aunt of mine won the same thing: she was suspicious, checked it out, it was GENUINE! She asked my M&D and I if we would like to have a week in a 2-bed apt near Marbella. It was fantastic, out of season and very quiet but we had a ball. The apt. was lovely and the caretakers were supposed to try and sell us timeshare, but we just kept leaving Dad with them as he was retired! They gave up after a couple of days and then served as a taxi service for us, taking us to Granada, Ronda, Gibraltar!

So, I'd say, check it out and if it is OK legally then go for it, but be prepared to be pestered while you are there.

I've been on a couple of freebie weekends away with timeshare.

You only have to attend a presentation for an hour and then let somebody sell you a timeshare.

Depending on your age you just say the following

we're trying for a family so not spending any cash"

we're saving for our childrens education/wedding/first home/car etc etc

After this - they really have nowhere to go and it should be over in 20 mins tops!

A couple of hours out of a weeks break's nothing for a free holiday (As long as you're not paying silly flight prices)
