I was just looking over the Disney forum at www.cruisecritic.com and someone just got back from the Wonder reporting that her husband was violently ill with the Norwalk Virus -Yikes!!!

That thread is strange...does not mention if the DH was quaranteened (I cannot spell that!!) or if he saw the dr to have it officially diagnosed...and to say that it's a sick ship BECAUSE they tell you to wash often? Where's the logic in that statement? "We did not have to pay due to it being the ships fault." ???? How can a virus being passed around be the SHIP'S fault?

Well, the ship itself was sick see. Not really any of the passengers, it was the ship. Yeah, yeah, that's it. lol

So, anyone else just back from the Wonder get sick with this lady's husband's "Norwalk Virus"?

LOL! Yeah, that's it...*nudge nudge*

I am apparently in a bad mood today, because that post bugged me so much I had to sign up and post there. She wouldn't recommend it because of the hand washing signs? Well maybe had her hubby used the advice he'd be ok?? *shrug*

Isn't it funny how someone stating incorrect information that puts a bad light on the Disney cruises sets me off. I'm afraid to ask what that says about me! *grin*

It is interesting that in the past year or so anything that is of the "noro" virus family is being referred to as the "Cruise Ship Virus".

Our local health department has reported 10 cases associated with a local business. It finally came out that the business is a restaurant but no name is being released! Everyone I've talked has said they'd really like to know so they can avoid that restaurant until the incubation period has passed - which is probably exactly why no one is releasing the name.

Yea, like it is the ship's fault. Nor would it be the restaurant's fault. And the precaution statements are legititmate. They are posted all over around here. And we haven't seen a cruise ship in the great lakes in quite a while!

Some people!

When we were on our 1/15 Wonder cruise we ran into a woman at guest services one morning who we assumed had a sick passenger with her. She was quite upset because apparently this companion had been quarantined & was miserable being stuck in their inside stateroom. While still waiting in line a few CMs came out to calm her down and eventually left to show her where her new room with a verandah would be.

We noticed a lot more warning for hand washing & the kids washing their hands upon entering the clubs, but I am assuming it had been this way for a while. We did not encounter anyone else who seemed to be having a problem on our sailing.

The ship's really do all they can to keep you from getting sick, using the alcohol wipes & being diligent about washing your hands are ultimately up to the passenger. Sounds like having this virus is miserable to begin with, but to be confined to a 200 sq. ft. room must really make it 10 times worse.

Will have to go over to Cruise Critic & check out that post!!

I wish and hope people understand that you can get that virus anywhere. It often goes through schools, offices and yes ships. Anywhere large groups of people gather is a perfect place for it to spread. I think you have to be living under a rock not to know enough about this virus to know it isn't anyone's fault. Those who refuse to wash their hands after going to the bathroom help it spread. I akin it to cruising during the hurricane season. Jan - Mar are prime times for the virus and you are taking a calculated risk by cruising at that time.

My daughter caught it the last night of a Carnival cruise in February. Of course all the clean clothes had gone with the luggage. She had to walk off the ship with a bag under her face. Luckily, we were scheduled to spend a few days at my parents' house in Florida before having to go on a plane. It is miserable.

Just my 2 cents

Let's say that a DCL CM has the norwalk virus and is involved in food prep. I just cut and pasted this from a website.

"Norwalk and Norwalk-like viruses are transmitted when people consume food or water contaminated with feces from an infected person. These viruses are easily spread from person-to-person."

That said I can also see how an infected person could board who is not a good handwasher and spread it. You can get it by coming into contact with their "stuff" (you know what I mean?). However, if there is a large outbreak...I would find it more likely to be something that people ate especially if everyone starts to get sick all at once.

I would say that if not a lot of people got sick on that cruise that it was not most likely the ships fault.

MY whole family...minus 1 dd....just got over a stomach virus....we
cruise this Saturday..hopefully we will have some kind of immunity
in us....I have already purchased a large container of wipes...hand washing is the key!!!

You have to be careful of what you believe from the cruise critic site. There are lots of trolls there. This was that persons first post. Normally that indicates a troll who is trying to stir things up.

Just because someone is sick with throwing up, etc...doesn't mean that they have the "NORWALK".....

I have Kidney Stones and I'm always afraid I'll have an attack while on a cruise....it's just the "hurling"...not the other...but they could still attribute it to the "Norwalk".....

So, just because someone is sick.....doesn't mean "Norwalk"...he could have had food poisioning. I got FP from Burger King like 20 years ago...and "hurled" and the other....for 3 days....I still can't look at BK without thinking about that.....

Just my knowledge about being sick and living with a medical professional for 25 years.....

And don't forget the ever-dreaded sea sickness!!!
Hubby and I are both pretty much immune, but a couple of cruises back he consumed a little more alcohol than usual and got very dehydrated in the hot tub. That night there was a good bitof motion, and he kept telling me he felt strange. I get motion sick when reading in a car, so I recognized the symptoms and said, "You're getting sea sick." He kept saying, "No, I'm not," but suddenly he said, "You're right!" and ran into the bathroom for the dreaded upchucking.
Actually, we were probably wrong and it was the dreaded Norwalk.

cuz my kids caught it all the way up here in Illinois...I know it has got to be someones fault!!! who can I sue? the schools? Anyway, we will be over it by the time we sail in 13 days! Geez........I just hope we too have immunity. Sister in law says the tummy bug has like over 200 different strains. I often wondered if I drank lysol would it keep me from catching it? LOL.... You're not kidding, are you...the attitude of that board is horrifying!! I keep thinking that I'd like to try another line, and was poking around the RCCL board, and oh MY are they vicious and quick to anger there! There are the nice ones of course, but in general, it's "post and duck", it seems.

I love this place. :)

I wouldn't count on the Lysol. However............. alcohol kills viruses and bacteria, right?

Bartender.......... another round over here, please. ;)

I that cruisecritic post and also thought the woman should not be blaming Disney for being a sick ship!!!

I was so proud to see my fellow DIS'ers in there setting the record straight!!! Good job guys!!!
