Northern Europe Magic 6/13/2015

We are looking for 3 or 4 people, preferably a family with teenage children, to join our 2 families (11 people) on an excursion to St. Petersburg.

We have an excursion scheduled for 14 people, but one family has to back out of the cruise, leaving 11 of us. We are as follows

Family one: Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Dad, 17 and 15 year old daughters (at time of sailing)

Family two: Mom, Dad, 17 year old son (in wheelchair), 15 and 13 year old daughters.

Our excursion is arranged through Exeter Tours, Greg Tepper, who is recommended by Conde Nast Traveler magazine as THE tour agent for St. Petersburg.

The Exeter Tour Includes:

1. Straight to Winter Palace/Hermitage Museum with private guided tour of the Hermitage
2. Tour of Peter and Paul Fortress.
3. Drive across Neva River, drive by Peter and Paul Fortress, Nevsky Prospect, other sights.
4. Tour Yusupov Palace, hear the story of Rasputin's murder in the basement. (Not wheelchair accessible, so our friend will stay in the van)
5. Tour St. Isaac's Cathedral, climb or take elevator to top of dome for view of St. Petersburg.
6. Theater transfers in evening to whatever show is playing as part of White Nights Celebration. Tickets to show are extra.

--the Exeter Tour is just us, not a large bus like Disney Cruise Line (DCL), and from what I can tell it visits more sites than any DCL tour. See what you think.

The Exeter Tour will cost $350 per person. Lunch and tips are not included. They will take us to a lunch place. I have specifically asked for a more local restaurant.

By comparison, the DCL tour of Peterhof and Hermitage is $229 per person. DCL tour of Hermitage with a drive-by tour of other sites is $149 per person.

We want people who are fun, polite, adventuresome, willing to try new foods, interested in history, art, culture. Basically, if you are fun and polite, the rest should follow.

Private message me for more details.

Has anyone started an FE group for this sailing? I am glad to organize it, if needed.

Cruise Meet threads are doing just fine still managing meet and FE discussions right here on the DIS as they have since FE began (also here on the DIS).

FE organizers generally need to know how many people (adults/children) are participating in each cabin with child ages for age appropriate gift giving. Other information you would like to share such as names, allergies, favorite characters, etc. is up to you. Other personal information is not really necessary. Those organizing FEs typically ask for the information to be posted in the meet thread or sent to them via PM.

For those posting in this Cruise Meet thread to join a FE, since no one seems to have come forward recently to organize a FE for this cruise here on the DIS, please feel free to organize the FE right in this thread. There is certainly plenty of time to plan a FE for this cruise. All it takes is for someone to maintain a list of/for those participating which can easily be done in this thread. Many Cruise Meet threads have been doing it this way for years now here on the DIS.

We sailed this past summer in Europe and before that many times in US. Things I really noticed to be different (besides ports)...they let 18 yr olds drink on ship with parental permission. Lol. They brought some wonderful local entertainment on board. We had meals that were for those locales - Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. Those are what stand out in my memories.

Was this a Disney cruise you were on? My son is 19 and was wondering if he would be allowed to have alcohol since we were outside the US..

How many of you are repeat cruisers? This will be our 6th Disney Cruise, but first European cruise.

This will be our 22nd Disney cruise. We sailed with DCL to the Baltic in 2010 and did the DCL Med cruise in 2007 and also in 2012. We loved all of the itineraries and found great excursions at each port. Our sons will turn 18 and 14 before sailing this July. We were on the Magic to Jamaica right after Thanksgiving 2014. It was the first time that we had sailed since the refurb and we thought she looked outstanding. We have been on and love all 4 Disney ships, but the Magic and then the Fantasy are our favorites.

Our oldest son was 16 on our last Med cruise and offered champagne and wine at lunch on our excursion in Rome. He had met several American friends that were over 18 that were allowed to drink with their parents permission. His friend was 18 on our Magic sailing after this past Thanksgiving and our son is still 17 until May, so it was difficult when the older one couldn't go to the teen club (he's a senior in high school too) and our son wasn't old enough for the adult activities. We are glad he'll be 18 on the Baltic and can't wait to take him to Palo, the adult comedy's, etc. That is if he wants to hang with his parents!

We still need to sit down and figure out what excursions we want to do for July. Our boys were 9 and 13 the last time we did the Baltic so their interests are a lot different now. We plan to spend a couple of days before the cruise in England and a day after the cruise.

robins88 is organizer for FE for this cruise. Cheers!

According to post #190, Robinsa88 will not be doing the FE in the DIS. JillLKaale, it would be awesome to have someone organizing the FE here! Thanks and welcome to the cruise!
